Hi Sulabug, Love the block.....I wish we had some of the woodtone fabrics here! I can't seem to find any since our local LQS closed.

Here is an outhouse somewhat similar to the one we had years ago. This is painted on a saw blade. Though you might like to see it.

Hey, that is exactly the look I wanted to go for!! I remember having to use the outdoor toilet, when I was a young girl. My grand children, now a days, can't even imagine it. Thank you so much for sharing your picture.

Jacquie,
Your light box idea sounds like it would work out great. I don't have a light box & this was the first time I have tried a Pattern like this. I did find it really easy. I just cut out all of the pieces like the list shows & laid them out, making the block. From there it was easy to sew them together. I hope everyone has a great time making this block!!
:D :D :D :D

You did a great job! I think these are going to be the best looking outhouses we've ever seen!

kristen0112 08-01-2011 07:06 PM

Cute!

rwquilts 08-02-2011 05:56 AM

Sulabug and Jacquie, your blocks are adorable! I've been out of town and hadn't seen this month's block yet...can't wait to get started, but two grandchildren somehow got in my suitcase and I have them for a week or so... :):)...but soon!

TymeToShine 08-02-2011 07:23 AM

Sulabug...That is a great pattern. Love your interpretation. Did you do it according to the directions or did you try to PP it?
Am looking forward to gettting back to making my houses...I am W-A-Y- behind. We had to leave home in February when I had started on the farmhouse and stayed with my DMIL to care for her until she passed away. Got back home the end of May and moved the first of June. Finally beginning to get back to quilting. Will post my pics when ever I finally get caught up!

Hi there............I put my block together according to directions. I didn't try to pp it. The only thing that I changed was the door. It had several pieces to it & I was lazy, so I used a solid piece of farbic. I know, shame on me, but it worked out just fine!! :D I am glad to hear that you are back working with your sewing. You are never behind, so just take your time & create some pretty house blocks. I will be waiting to see how yours turn out too!!
:D :D :D :D

Here is another modern day outhouse. It is at our cabin (now sold) in Alaska. It has a half door because 1) it has a great view of the ocean, 2) it's easier to tell if it's occupied, and 3) better air circulation  .

Surfergirl 08-04-2011 07:09 AM

Sassylass and Whitepine: Thank you for posting these photos. I never thought I would enjoy looking at outhouses, but these are unique!

Here's my little "potty" house. Looks a little tropical I think, but what the heck!
Here's the rest of my houses too. Only 4 more to go!

I love the "tropical" look. You've done a wonderful job on all your houses. I wanted to applique' a palm tree on mine, but didn't have enough room, so don't know what I'm going to do.

Sassylass 08-04-2011 09:59 AM

Beautiful blocks, ladies, and thanks to those who shared pictures of outhouses.

I reduced mine to 10.5'' because I have an idea for setting in it with the barn we did, it doesn't look like much now, but hopefully it will in the quilt.

Thanks, Sulabug for choosing the house and thanks for all your kind words and encouragement.

KSenn 08-04-2011 03:31 PM

Thanks for the comments! I can't wait to see more of what everyone else is doing! These little blocks are just so appealing and so satisfying! And low calorie too!
