I know that you will be caught up before we know it!! Have fun sewing those blocks together.
:D :D :D :D

lovelyl 09-10-2012 03:48 AM

Wow, kensington - you are fast! How do you sew so fast - I usually spend a couple of days on each block (not whole days - cut on one day, sew on another day). Your blocks are just darling. Can't wait to see the whole quilt.

kensington 09-10-2012 10:39 AM

I'm having a hard time finding the pinwheel I want for June... it's the Flying Kite Pinwheel. Eleanor Burns has it on her site, but she makes them in rows of the same fabric, I want to use 8 different fabrics.. I think I have converted it... we shall see. That August block took me a bit longer as I was learning to use my new "Wonder Cut Ruler". LOL.

Okay... here is my June block. I chose this one because June is special to me, my moms birthday is in June. And the pinwheel reminds me of my childhood when we had then and would hold them in the wind. I used repro fabrics, I have stash of scraps from a quilt I made, and I am very happy with my June Block. It really took no time at all.

Kensington, I just love your pinwheel block! Did you use your Wonder Cut ruler to make it? I don't have one of those yet, but I do have the Companion Ruler. I wonder if that would do the same thing? I've got lots of 5" squares cut (worked on them today), so maybe I'll be doing pinwheels soon.

Tweety... your block is nice. I like that fabric.

Yes, I did use the Wonder cut. It was so easy to do. I don't know what the Companion is, I'll have to look that up. I used Eleanor Burns intructions but had to adapt them as she made hers in strips and I was making mine in 8 different fabrics. Still, it was very easy to do. It's one of my favorite blocks in my BOM so far.

It's nice and colorful. I'd like it with all four borders better too. Great fabrics.

missgigglewings........What a great September Maple leaf block. Your leaf print fabric is wonderful & I love it!! :D The colors are so pretty. I hope you will post another picture of it when you add your borders. We will all be anxious to see the difference, although I think it looks nice with the wider border on two sides. Thank you for sharing with all of us today.

Sulabug... Sulabug! Now don't get upset that I jumped ahead. LOL. But, I did finish my other blocks... April, May, October and November. I should have waited, but I was inspired by you and these threads, and I couldn't wait. I'm excited to get it sashed and borders on so I can see my own finished quilt! I've never done a BOM quilt before... I'm so excited! Thanks!

Jenniky..............Your September Maple Leaf block turned out gorgeous too!! :D I also like the twelve inch Q.C. block pattern. I have noticed that you aren't posting on this thread as much. Where have you been? I happen to know that you are involved with several other projects, as well. We have missed your bright & shining little face. Hope you are keeping up with all of your projects!!
:D :D :D :D

Jenniky 09-14-2012 04:12 AM

Hi Sulabug, All of my projects plus regular life events have kept me extremely busy and I have had less computer time as a result, I have been reading but not replying much. The up side is I have learned so much about quilting, the down side obviously I have not had as much time to interact with all my friends on the Quilting Board. Hopefully the end of October most of my current projects will be complete and as I am not planning on taking on any new projects until next year I will have more time in the following months. :) It's nice to know Im missed. Warm Hugs Everyone :)

Kensington, Where did you get the patterns for Oct., Nov, & Dec? I love them & wouldn't mind adding them to at least 1 of the 4 I'm doing.

Well, I did not use a pattern for Oct. I had seen several versions of the Witchy Sue and thought it was cute. And someone had mentioned there being a pumkin block for Oct.. and my mind got going and I drew that up myself and made my own pattern with velum. I enlarged it. I appliqued that one on. The November block is called "Autumn Leaves" and I found it a couple of places on line. "Quilt in a day" has it and in video talks about adding the turkey to it as you go. But, it's a leaf block. It comes out set on the point after piecing, but I wanted mine square for this, I got out my wonder cut ruler and added triangles to give me a square. Also, Quilt in a day, gives PDF pattern you can copy, but I enlarged mine by 1/2 inch. So my turkey went from top to bottom. I found the Santa Face on Quilters Cache, it's a 12 inch.

kensington 09-14-2012 01:58 PM

Any ideas on sashing? Can't decide, do I want black, a dark or light solid, a check, or print... probably not flowers. But, what? Something light and bright or more subdued?

stichinluvr 09-15-2012 06:11 AM

I think dark so you blocks will pop. Or maybe you want to do an attics windows. I did my DGS Lego quilt and it really gives depth.

kensington 09-15-2012 08:11 AM

Attics window is an idea. I'll have to think about that.

I drew my own pumpkin. I have a sketch pad and I draw on it all the time, I drew my own Hot Air Balloon and the Heart Block for February.

I drew the pumpkin, and then when I cut it out, I cut one of the sections a different fabric, darker orange. HTH. That block is applique.
