I agree with you on the idea that seeing all these pretty colors and blocks everyone else is doing makes one want to start yet another and another DJ!!!

Everyone, your blocks look awesome! I especially like the tiny ones as I am partial to minis, but think that may even be too small to even try lol. I really should get in there and quilt, but been stuck on the couch with a stomach bug... hopefully I make myself get up soon before I fall too far behind.

Tyme, frog stitching is when you are ripping out your stitches.... rippit, rippit lol

Week 4:

Circles were pieced using a curvemaster foot. My first attempt at using one of these and at doing curves.
After doing B10, I could see why we needed to buy so much background fabric!

Tyme, I'm loving your fabrics. I just put the curvemaster foot on my wish list -- those curves are perfect!

I'm with Fraew - I love all the colour schemes!

Mine is 3 different greens on a navy background in a modified "around the world"
type setting. I love it so far, but every new one I see, I want to start another...

I chose a rigid plan for mine, since I tend to spend more time agonizing over colours than sewing.
Here, I just look at my "map", grab the proper green, and go to it!

Really like bookworm's blues on white. So tempting.

I usually use just plain old printer paper. Especially with hexagons and pieces that aren't too tiny.

It's easier on my fingers since I do baste right through the paper. Some only baste the folds
of fabric behind (esp those who use plastic shapes) but I like the edges to be very sharp and don't
mind removing the basting while listening to tv (or more usually audio books).

You have to be able to feel the edge of the shape when you fold over the fabric. This
is easier when using card stock. With paper, it can bend a little and your shape will be too small,
or if you don't fold right next to the edge your shape may be too big.


I've used paper for most blocks so far. I did use card stock for the curved seams,
to get them nice and snug.

I will also use card stock for the sashing - since long narrow pieces tend to get "bowed"
(yes, I probably do pull my basting stitches too tight!)


Off to print out a new block to work on during the Superbowl :p

Spartan Quilter: are you quilting all three layers, block, batting and backing? I read (somewhere) some were just quilting the block and batting, then when top is finished quilt only the sashes to the backing. I wondered why? And Katybob, I bought a 50 yard bolt of Southern Belle muslin from Joann's online (coupon of course) thinking I'd use the extra for other projects..........well I might want to wait for those other projects. Ha Ha!!! I've done several blocks twice. I love everyones different fabric.

WOW ladies - all those blocks are wonderful!!!! bookworm - recognize some of those winter exchange DJ blocks!! Been thinking about using some of those as well [42 I think???] Spartan - about the sashing - the recommended in the original is 1/2" finished and although some people are making it wider, the real advantage to making it 1/2" when you are QAYG is that you needn't add any additional batting behind the sashing. The 1/4" seam you take from the blocks fill in the quilt sandwich - quilt top blocks, batting [and optional back at this point] - perfectly butting the blocks together to fill in the 1/2" :) BTW your quilting is awesome!!! adds so much to the block
