2015 - September Block of the Month - Directions & Discussion
Our block for September is called Swing in the Center.
if you google the block name you will find several versions and methods for making this block. the instructions at Block Central make a 12" [finished] version and are fairly easy to follow. PLEASE NOTE, however, that i think there is an error in the instructions. there are several places that instruct us to place and sew things "wrong sides together." my friends and i could not make sense of that process, but did get the desired results when we substituted the process of "right sides together." http://www.blockcentral.com/qb-swinginthecenter.shtml A different approach to the 12" pieced version, at the World Wide Quilting Page: http://www.quilt.com/Blocks/Swingint...theCenter.html Marcia Hohn, over at Quilter's Cache offers a 6" [finished] version for which she recommends paper piecing. http://www.quilterscache.com/S/Swing...nterBlock.html i hope you enjoy experimenting with this block as much as i did. :) |
Oh my! This is a beautiful block!
Thank you, Patrice! |
The first link does not work for me.
I tried the link with and without the 's' before the html but no go. Anyone else having problems? |
Hmmmm... the link worked a few days ago for me, but not now. Hopefully the site is only down temporarily.
|
there does seem to be a problem the Block Central site.
i will try to do some instructions while we wait for it to come back up. don't know how long that will take, though. |

http://www.quilt.com/Blocks/Swingint...theCenter.html Last night, I drew the block on paper. I came up with this exact same approach. I cut the pieces this morning. It does seem like a dream, but I think I was reading somewhere on the internet that blockcentral was closing down. Can't trust my memory these days. |
May I add that the Corner Pop ruler makes 1/2 and 1/4 square triangles soooooo much easier and far more accurate.
