JanieW, your block turned out so pretty! I'm still in love with your fabric choices!

Hi Jan are you not joining in this time?

Thanks so much Judy and to all who are sharing this "ride" .

Beautiful quilt, I love the color selection of the red, white and Blues.

Lstew2212 10-23-2018 04:25 PM

I'm still working to put mine together. Hope to have it done by this weekend. Supposed to rain, great weekend for a sewing.

craftyjulz 10-23-2018 05:40 PM

Dotty, reds are so hard with bleeding. I hope the color catchers work. Let us know bc I have a quilt I know I’m going to need to use them with soon too. I’m scared my one solid red is going to bleed over & since this is my big personal project of making my own paper pieced blocks & putting them together into a special quilt it’ll really be upsetting. Has anyone tried using a cold water & vinegar wash cycle first with a quilt they thought might run before?
You know Dotty, if you put another red, white, blue, or gold border on this quilt it could be a considered a Quilt of Valor I think.
JanieW, I love your block. I can’t wait to see it with them put together & how the secondary pattern looks.
dd, you might want to add some color catchers too with all that red. Do you have any tricks to keep fabric from bleeding? I think your recipient is going to love your quilt!
RJ Very nice. Yours was the flannel quilt right? Your colors all go together so well. It’s a very soothing palate.
Carol in WI How’d you get your blocks to match like that?! That’s cool that the ones you have laid out are in different colorways. Are all of them going to be that way or are some going to be more scrappy looking?
Everyone is doing such a fantastic job. Leslie, I’m sure you’re quilt looks fine. We’re usually our hardest critique!

I'm really bummed! Got a needle stuck somehow and now I think my timing is off. I can't get the bobbin thread up. So today was frustrating. I have another machine I can piece with. I don't trust myself with my Bernina. Will be taking it in. :(
Was hoping to have some pics tonight.

Hi Mary, thanks for asking. I have finished the first two steps but haven't put the blocks together yet. I've been working on getting a few Christmas gifts finished but will try to post a picture of a completed block later today.

retiredteacher09 10-24-2018 05:01 AM

Awesome blocks and tops! Thanks for sharing!

I hope to sew a few more blocks today as leaders/Enders for a BOM that needs to be finished by tomorrow night. Nothing like procrastinating until the last moment for the BOM but at least it’s cut out. Lol!

JanieW 10-24-2018 06:08 AM

I really like this quilt. I can’t wait to get to my favourite part which is the quilting. Thanks, Judy.

Thanks for the compliments. I like all the scrappy ones I’m seeing. The variety of fabrics and colours is great to see.

I have only two blocks assembled. It will be awhile before I get more done as I have to get some preemie quilts quilted and then put the binding on before the weekend.

Susie, I hope you get your machine sorted out. It’s so frustrating when we want to quilt and we have equipment malfunction.

it’s flimsy time!
I think I need to add a 4” border / crust to my 20th mystery quilt train ride - Berry Cobbler Quilt.
It will give it another several inches width and height. If the 13 year old doesn’t approve of it, my husband has a cousin who has had cancer return after loosing the ability to walk without falling (the leg issue has been a mystery for about 3 years, or they just don’t want it discussed) she is in a wheelchair and I think this size quilt would work well if she doesn’t mind the free scrappy gift.
Thank you Judy for my first train ride! 💋

I like your colors & scrappy effect. You have put your scraps &/or reserves to good use. In most projects like these, the choice of colors are recomendations, not hard & fast rules. We are free to make decisions based on preference, need and available resources. That's What quilting is all about. Enjoy the process! You are very skilled and I promise the quilt police will never get your address from me.

All of the blocks and completely flimsies are wonderful! I'm really on the fence as to how to finish mine. My blocks are 16" since I made 4-1/2" patches. I'm stopping at 9 blocks. I no longer care for the dark navy sashing I posted earlier and love Roma's yellow/ cheerful sashing. So I might do something a bit brighter. OR I might just not use sashing. These blocks are big and bold and the secondary pattern makes a statement. Decisions, decisions. Oh, yes I know one of the 4 patches is turned. It will stay that way as I've already taken part of that block apart to fix star point turned inward, which I think is why the four patch got turned. It will be my humility block along with all the lost points.

Along with working on MT20, I'm also doing a medallion mystery quilt with the National Quilters Circle. I'm not happy with my colour choices but the focus fabric hasn't been used yet and hopefully will bring it all together. This is the center medallion which measures 30". I'm interested in where we go from here.

dsenters this turned out so beautiful - love it. So cherry.

SusieQOH 10-24-2018 11:24 AM

I haven't seen any that I don't love! Took my machine in today so I will finish on my backup machine. Hope it doesn't goof up my seams.
She told me that I need a new hook- $100.00 gulp!
Nice work, everyone!!!

paintmejudy 10-24-2018 03:02 PM

Susie - I console myself at something like that, thinking, "well ... it could have been a lot worse!"

Dsenters 10-24-2018 03:29 PM

Thanks paintmejudy!

Yes I do appreciate remaining anonymous from the “QP”

lawsonmugs 10-24-2018 03:56 PM

We won't let them get ya Dsenters. lol

dotcomdtcm 10-24-2018 04:50 PM

Thanks Mary,
There is a group here in NYC making quilts for 9/11 families. If the top washes out ok, it will go there.
I had to order color catchers. None here locally but I'm an Amazon Prime fan. Stay tuned!!

Thanks. I'm still dithering with whether to add sashing or not. I'm not sure what happened to the picture of the medallion quilt center as it posted earlier. I'm attaching it again. It measures 30" and the completed quilt will be 65", so there's a long way to go.

Hi Julz ~ that is the result of my "controlled scrappy" method. The recipient wanted red and turquoise so the majority of my fabrics are those colors and then I added others that I thought complimented them with the thoughts of going completely uncontrolled. I'm just finishing up sewing them and have no clue of how it will all sort out in the end, but hopefully I won't have to make more blocks to carry this through. Thanks for asking. I love everyone's blocks and am amazed at the variety and how different the pattern can look. The scrappy sashes are so unique.

Carol in Wi, Dotty and Angelia, thank you all so much for the lovely fabrics your sent. They are truly appreciated. My back has been out for over a week now, and hadn't been to the mail box until this morning so hope you didn't think they hadn't arrived.

Carol, I will use your fabrics in a fall table runner my daughter asked me to make. She was here when I opened the package and she drooled a bit

Dotty, I absolutely love love love the polka dots. Did you know I have a love of these lovely dots? You sent me some silver and white large dots a while ago and they were perfect for a project I was working on.

Angelia, again you have sent me a gift I truly love. The charms are gorgeous, got a great idea of what I want to do with them. MSQC posted a new pattern of flowers.

AngeliaNR 10-25-2018 11:13 AM

You are very welcome! Thanks for the mystery. :)

toverly 10-25-2018 11:45 AM

Dotty I have used Retayne with the wash to stop the bleeding. It has worked so far. It won't remove dye from where it has already run but it will help future running.

lawsonmugs 10-25-2018 12:17 PM

Chasezzz that's a show stopper. Very nice. Judy ,Dotty meant to send those dots to me. Can you please send them on? Beautiful fabrics.

paintmejudy 10-25-2018 12:26 PM

Mary, there is a ransom and a tax and substantial postage and handling fee. Plus, I just cannot give them up. :D Sorry.

paintmejudy 10-25-2018 12:41 PM

Chasezzz as Mary said, you have a show stopper here! It is beautiful.

Macybaby 10-25-2018 12:59 PM

Chasezzz - I love your quilt too!

I've not gotten any farther with mine yet, but should have time this weekend.

dd 10-25-2018 01:19 PM

Thanks Julz but my fabrics are all pre-washed. I've never had a problem before.
Chasezzz - I love the colors in your quilt.

I have 5 squares finished. Soon as I finish this 50's dress made from zombie pin-up girls fabric for my daughter I will get back to work on the quilt.

WANNABEE 10-25-2018 01:22 PM

Chasezzz that is such a happy quilt, it makes me smile.

dotcomdtcm 10-25-2018 01:36 PM

Good news! I washed my RWB top with 2 color catchers. It is perfect. All whites, nice & bright. Bleeding removed.
I'm a happy quilter!!

SusieQOH 10-25-2018 01:47 PM

chasezzz- that's absolutely gorgeous!!!!
Dotty- that's great news!!!
