Here is Block 28 - I love using the gold DMC thread

sandpat 05-13-2011 04:23 AM

You did a great job with it too Donna! The gold really does make it sparkle!

Butterflyspain 05-13-2011 05:04 AM

I like a bit of bling too Donna, only my thread would not sew for me it kept tangling, but you have it in the bobbin donīt you?

d.rickman 05-13-2011 08:29 AM

Elle, I do have the DMC in the bobbin.

d.rickman 05-13-2011 08:30 AM

Thanks Patti for the nice comments

I havenīt tried that, it would have probably been better but the thread I have just didnīt want to coóperate for hand sewing.

Just finishing Block 2 today

d.rickman 05-13-2011 03:41 PM

Its' bad enough for me to learn applique, without having to do the embroidery by hand as well. The bobbin work goes together quickly, and DH helps me wind the bobbins - so far have used 6 skeins of the DMC and there is lots of waste.

sandpat 05-13-2011 04:19 PM

How many blocks have you done that you've used the 6 skeins on Donna? Thats good information for the others doing the quilt.

d.rickman 05-13-2011 07:25 PM

The first two I used Razzle Dazzle, then found this Gold DMC, so that would make 28, as I'm on #30 now. DH is going out to get me another 6 tomorrow. I will be doing a lot with this DMC on my borders. There is a lot of waste utilizing the bobbin work, and the drawback is having to hand fill all the bobbins. I also use a tear away stabilizer on the reverse side of the fabric - due to the fact that the invisible thread on the top really pulls on the tension and therefore on the fabric as well. I find I have to plan how I'm going to stitch, as you are stitching on the reverse side of your fabric, and you can't see where you are stitching on the good side. Sometimes, I run a basting line on the good side if it is questionable at all.
Also found (I keep a small egg cup on my desk with water in it) if you wet a fingernail (whitening) pencil, it doesn't break so easily when drawing on your embroidery pattern on the reverse side of your fabric.

I hope this answers some of the questions that may arise.

Butterflyspain 05-13-2011 10:35 PM

Good tips, hadnīt thought of using water on the tip of my pencil, so far its only broken when I dropped it on the floor not when I have been working

Thanks

sandpat 05-14-2011 05:22 AM

Thanks for the info Donna....great stuff to share.

Mousie 05-14-2011 08:57 AM

Donna, love the way your center looks like it's being stretched by the hearts, lol! so interesting and your color scheme is wonderful.
I love the individuality of each quilter's block.
If I ever get some other high priority things done, maybe I'll be posting a block soon.
A mousie can hope! :XD:

d.rickman 05-14-2011 01:29 PM

I'm loving all the posted pics, they are all very very nice, and such nice work on all the blocks. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks everyone for your nice comments. Isn't it fun to see your own fabric in someone else's blocks? I'm always looking for that when someone posts a block.

d.rickman 05-16-2011 09:18 PM

Beautiful block. The embroidery really makes it.

QuiltswithConvicts 07-02-2011 12:54 PM

Rox, another nice job! Love the yellow in this block, My re-done one doesn't have any yellow.

Donna, you, too, used yellow. It's my fav color, but somehow I'm not using it as much as I am using orange this go-round!

Now on the other quilt I am slowly getting made, there is tons of yellow!!!

sandpat 07-02-2011 04:31 PM

Isn't that funny Kathy! I'm using so much orange in this quilt and its really not one of my colors!!LOL!

Patti, orange used not to be a color I used much at all, but I'm finding it galloping into more of my work lately. Quilt for DH will have quite a bit, along with yellows & rusts.
