Patti, how do you keep your water-soluable thread dry?

Just kidding...I keep it separate from my other thread inside the little baggy that it comes in. Under what circumstances is yours getting wet???

I don't have any as I wasn't sure how dry the air needs to be to keep it from dissolving. I did buy some water-soluable stabilizer that looks more like interfacing than stabilizer. I keep it sealed in a zippy bag. It's OK.

Yesterday, our humidity was 68% - today, right now it's 15%. Who knows what tomorrow will bring. Today was quite a bit calmer than this past week was - winds more normal. If we don't have the winds - someone has put a giant bubble over the county! Tomorrow is supposed to be like it was earlier in the week. Hope for no fires!

Oh, I wasn't thinking about the humidity. We have really high levels of humidity here too in the summer and it hasn't ever bothered it. Of course, we run the A/C when its uncomfortable, so the thread seems to be fine. I had some left over from a project that I used over a year later and it was just fine...kept sealed in the baggy.

I love to do it Kathy...IMHO, it really adds to a quilt. One thing I learned though...don't waste the time doing it on a fabric that is busy...it looks best on really plain fabric.

Patti, I have a question about thread color when doing trapunto. Do you use a thread that will sort of disappear or a contrasting thread??? On my AOTH the embroidery thread I am using is a cranberry color. I was thinking of doing the outlining for the trapunto work in a similar color. Or would it be better on my dark blue background to use a dark blue or black that wouldn't show? I have never done trapunto before and am really interested in trying this.

I usually use a medium brown when I do this technique on a light fabric. If you use something that is darker than the fabric, it makes the stitching line seem to sink down further into the fabric, popping out the trapunto even further. If you use a lighter thread, it will still pop out the exact same amount, but the optical illusion isn't there. I would think that the cranberry on the blue would work...its a little darker shade, isn't it??? If you don't use the cranberry...use a darker shade of blue...or even a darker brown type tone. Maybe you should do a "test run" on a scrap first to see which you like the best.

Thanks, Pati. Will definitely be doing several tests since I've never done this before and must practice copying the lines for those feathers. I am not much of a machine quilter, so will be practicing a lot before I touch any of these blocks. After all the work that's gone into them, I would hate to ruin the whole thing with bad quilting.

ok, here I am back from fabric shopping! Dh said NO PINK! what a stinker... this would have been great in pink... hmmmm maybe I will embroider in pink eh??? hehehe

Question: about enlarging, do any of you know how much fabric this will take? I bought 8yards and dont know if that is enough. for 10inch squares.
