Move ahead if you can, we have the swag sashing & border to do ahead. Your block is very pretty, traditional colors. Good job

tolepainter54 03-14-2011 02:27 PM

I finally received my fabric today. Connecting Threads shipped it quickly - it just took me a while to pick my colors. There's no turning back now. I am going to try the needle turn way. I am behind, but that's ok. All of the blocks have been beautiful.

hi jl, let me know what size blocks & i' ll adjust for you

Actually they will be added to the quilt top as you have designed it. No need to adjust the block sizes. I don't think I explained my plan clearly! Thanks for the offer, though. I really appreciate it!! :-)

Connecting Threads is really very good. I am happy with their fabrics, which I am using for my blocks in this project. They ship quickly too, and their prices are really great!!

I have created the leaves and flowers to all four blocks, jsut need to create the stems. Between arthritis and bad eye sight, I am struggling to get these done. I so wanted to make an album quilt.
So I am trying something different this time. I am cutting out the different flower and leaf pieces in pellon and gluing them to the applique fabric. Then turning the edge under and shaping the flower or leaf around the pellon using stick glue and ironing dry. This gets me the individual pieces ready to applique by hand and makes them portable. I can sew the different layers together before I sew it to the background.
I still have the background to cut out and mark for placement. Sorry for my long windedness. Just hope I am keeping up.
Everyone's blocks look so good and I just love the quilt layout. I am going to expand this to a king size quilt if possible for my bed.
Keep up the good work everyone.

I love how they turned out. I will get mine done one of these days but I'm being restricted for the next 3-4 weeks. It sucks! I do love catching up the pictures though when I can get online so please keep posting.

Wow, wow, wow, wow, 1 for each! Great job, love the fabrics!

gal288 03-16-2011 01:39 PM

Rumbols, I do the same thing. I sew each flower unit then attach to. The background. It' s so much easier.

I trace the furthest back piece on a square of the fabric, then needleturn the other parts, then cut out the piece to attach. So try this instead of the pellon

Those are just gorgeous.

I have all the flowers ready but when I tried to sew them by hand, the glue made it too tough to sew thru. I am now using my zig-zag (very tiny with matching thread) sewing the flowers together. I think they are working out well.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will try it with the next blocks.

HOOOOORAY...They are done!!! They are not trimmed up yet but I was so happy to finish them I just had to share.

DebbyT 03-21-2011 05:49 PM

I wanted to do a Baltimore, and after several books, and other searches, I printed out this pattern for the center and corner blocks, taped them together, and liked them. I have now selected the fabrics and have been tracing pattern pieces. I have read all of the posts I think, but I did not see the measurements for the finished quilt. It looks to add up to appx 90" X 90" with sashing and borders. Am I even close? -- Also, thanks for your efforts and assistance.

Hi Debby, glad you decided to join in, the quilt currently will finish up about 60" square, but you can add more blocks to make it bigger. Let me know what size you are looking for and I can do some other blocks for you to add.
The fabrics listed are for this size quilt, so if you are going to make it bigger, be sure to order more fabric.

If it finishes up at 60", then, is the border shown not included? I like the applique of flowers around the squares and was planning to scallop the edge. My progress has been slow. I changed my fabric selection for the stems and leaves, and am ready to cut now.

the borders are: inside border is 4" wide, outside border is 6" on the current photo, they can both be made wider to make the quilt bigger. Say in inside border can be 8" and the outside border 12". If you add another round of 12" blocks you can come to 72", appx. I'll run it on EQ later when I'm in my studio and let you know. What size do you want to come to?

I must be doing something wrong. I can see the picture of the second block which are the corner ones, but all I get in the instructions are a few lines, but no pattern. Maybe I don't understand how this works. Thanks for your help it looks beautiful. Gidget

You all are doing a great job on these blocks. I'll get started maybe this weekend if I can get far enough on the Relay for Life quilt I promised to make.

I got some new batiks at the Glendale Quilt Guild Show last weekend, and am planning on using some of them in this quilt, also.

Hi Peg...I would like that, too. I would like the quilt to end up about 85x85 or 90x90. Maybe another swag border added in there somewhere? :-) You're the best!!

One of the great things about this is you can jump in when you can and work at your own pace. Can't wait to how you use the batik. Relay for Life is more important. :)
