love the idea of houses.

Still sticking with stars as my choice.
PersonallyI don't care to make a quilt with buildings/houses but look forward to watching those who will be as that seems to be where the BOM 2011 is leaning to. Wow, alot of you want houses it seems. Great!

I'm with you. I like stars.

I agree with wvdek. The funky houses block exchange has already been done, and I think you would find it difficult to find 12 house patterns available without the requirement for purchasing patterns.

Stars, on the other hand, are widely available and lovely.

Yes, stars are widely available and widely used and used and used in quilts. Houses, however, are uncommon and unusual without being rare. And as mentioned in many threads, there are an abundance of different types of houses which can be obtained free from the Internet. Also, as quilters we know that using different colors and fabrics can make the same block look different. Why even the addition of a chimney or different window treatment can change the look of the same house pattern. Belles

I'm ready whenever.

Stars are OK but getting a little boring. I like the idea of houses because you can make churches, stores, schools, factories, lighthouses, roadhouses (saloons for some of us), honky tonks, apartment buildings, movie theaters, etc.

I did not envision a funky anything with this. This is not a swap (at least I didn't think it was). I have found at least half dozen patterns recently and I'm sure there are many more.

It's kind of like doing a quilt with shoes (not really my thing but could be fun). There are a lot of different shoes out there, or vegetables, or birds, or bugs, etc.

OMGosh....OMGosh....OMGosh!!!! I have another idea!! I know I'm a newbie but thought I would throw it out anyway. At first I liked the houses idea but alot of folks are just "so-so" with that so I started trying to come up with another one. Then I was reading about all the women who have overcome cancer, etc. Anyway...then I started thinking about how many of us, myself included, have such fond memories of our grandmother's (or mother's) quilting. What about a BOM with blocks that relate to Moms or Grandmothers? I found all these in like no time:
