Judy, they both look grand! Love the horseshoes...how cute is that?

In about 3 days I'll be joining you chug, chug, chugging along. I'll be on Christmas break for two weeks. Hope to catch up, but that might be a pipe dream!

It is a little daunting "getting behind" at least that's the way I feel.. I know this is just a do along but I am one that sooo.. doesn't like getting behind. Enjoy your time off though too!!

Here are my blocks 27 & 28:

Quilting Nonnie 12-22-2010 08:30 PM

My goodness, girl, you can't be doing these all in one day! Can you?

I'm working at mine full-time during vacation and I got one block done today. But I got 3 done yesterday!!

Great job, once again!

QuiltswithConvicts 12-22-2010 08:42 PM

No, I cut a bunch of blocks out & bagged them up. When my back hurt too much to stand anymore, I started sewing them together. Repeated the process. I was on vacation last week!

I have pulled all the fabric for the blocks thru #90. Will cut/sew this weekend as we have no family for 1400 miles. Wonder how many I'll get done!

Your blocks are beautiful. I will never catch up to you.

QuiltswithConvicts 12-23-2010 05:33 PM

Sure you will! I only work on the weekends. This bunch was a week of vacation's worth of work! :)

Here are my two blocks. I went back to paper piecing, thanks to RWQuilts. I had been paper piecing in the beginning. I only have Block Base, not EQ. If a block wasn't in BB, then I'd draw it myself. It got time-consuming and I gave it up for using templates. I'm really glad, actually, because I hadn't done templates before and now I know how. After #26 Cut Glass Dish with it's infinite HSTs, I got very frustrated.

That's when RWQuilts PM'd me about paper piecing. It reminded me to look in BB for PP patterns. So life is good again!

Nonnie, those are gorgeous! Love the colors in both blocks.

janRN 12-29-2010 09:33 AM

They're great-worth a double posting. I love the stripes. Very pretty blocks. I'm still doing templates; found I actually enjoy using them.

QuiltswithConvicts 12-29-2010 05:26 PM

Hey, girl, I see you're doing what I did - catching up and piecing a bunch. It's so easy to do that as they are so addictive that you can't stop with just a couple.

Right now, I'm busying myself with cutting out & bagging up the blocks. We have a trip coming up soon. DH is in a meeting & I'm just going to sit in the hotel & stitch, so I need to get everything ready. When I did my Baby Jane, I drew out all the blocks on freezer paper, cut them out and ironed to fabric. Then I bagged them up. I drew around the paper templates when I was ready to sew. I hand pieced everything. I am really enjoying using my mchine for the FWS, though! Got a Sylvia's Bridal Sampler in the works, too. These blocks are huge when compared to Jane's. However, we have one gal who is doing 3" & 4" - WOW, they're great, too.

Everyone's blocks are great!!!!

jojosnana 12-29-2010 05:33 PM

Loved all the blocks but those fussy cut fabrics were tooooo cute.

My Block 28

janRN 01-17-2011 05:38 AM

Very nice-cute fabric choices. You're moving right along, Roxanne-good job!

Halfsquare 01-17-2011 08:28 AM

Oh thank you. It's sort of scary when I look at the scanned pictures. I don't know what it is but my blocks don't do well in the light of day!

janRN 01-17-2011 09:39 AM

Neither do mine! I had a "melt down" the other day and just about threw in the towel (or fabric in this case). I look at the other blocks and think they're perfect and mine look like a beginner's. Everyone here was so encouraging and now I'm embarrassed I was whining. I think we all see the flaws in our own work but don't see them in other people's blocks. We are our own worst critics!! After my pity party I've gotten right back to making my blocks. You're doing great--just keep on plugging and enjoying the process. Plus, I'm learning so much from each block and from each person that posts on here.
Peace-Jan

Quilting Nonnie 01-17-2011 11:06 AM

Roxanne & JanRN, It's true! I do mine on a scanner and it misses NOTHING! I see little threads peeking out in the seams. Before I even scan I meticulously pick off each thread, piece of lint etc. Everything is magnified by taking a picture! It's scary.

Of course the block is going to be with 100 more in a quilt so it will not have the scrutiny that a photo allows.

Blocks, and quilts, look best at a distance. Unfortunately arms length is not enough. I think I should pin it on a wall and walk away 6-8 feet!

Remember the galloping horse rule!

And BTW, Roxanne, I think your 38 is great. I love the colors and it looks terrific.

JanRN, Your blocks always amaze me.

I guess there's always someone who we can look up to and admire, and then again, someone who is looking at ours and admiring also.

Halfsquare 01-17-2011 09:57 PM

I have a question. When I paper piece the front side comes out going in the opposite direction. On Block 27 Darting Birds that is not going to work? Did you just have the block face the opposite direction? I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or not? Sheesh. I was doing just fine and - wham! I hit a wall with this one.

Qiulting Nonnie - I loved what you said - thakn you. I try to think about the fact that my kids are not as meticulous as I am aboaut this and they will just love the quilt for all the work in it. I am going to hand quilt mine and it will be my first hand quilting. Maybe after we are done we could start a handquilting thread for those of us newbies??

That would be fun! I'm still a novice. The first piece I did was 22x22. The second piece I did was a 40x40" wall hanging. Now I'm doing a full size quilt. I'm working my way up to queen size!

Halfsquare 01-18-2011 04:28 PM

I think that would really cool. And we could share links to tutorials and stuff like that. Products and stuff. I know there is a special woman at Greenbaum's in Salem, OR who specialized in hand quilting.

Finally my Block 27 - this one was hard!

Quilting Nonnie 01-22-2011 06:19 PM

Congratulations! Looks really nice!

Halfsquare 01-22-2011 06:21 PM

I thought this had more pieces than any so far. I could be wrong. I have now figured out that I need to mirror image the printout of the foundation paper piecing if the block has a direction like this one does. I finally got it right. So I did them out of order but I now have 30 done.

janRN 01-22-2011 07:34 PM

Very nice!! You sure are working hard. Are you enjoying PP? I haven't tried it yet but it makes for beautiful blocks.

Halfsquare 01-22-2011 10:38 PM

I like it in some ways and not in others. But when there are tiny hst I just can't see any other way. It sort of seems like cheating (HA) but the triangles and squares are way more similar and come out way better. I have done a couple with the rotary cutting instructions and I like that too for certain blocks. It seems to me that each block has a "best way" to do it. Some using templates, some using rotary cutting and some using PP.

Yep, I cheated, but I go thte idea from these thread. I have had enough of those tiny HST's!!!!

I kept having that problem until I realized I needed to do the backside of the paper piecing fabric. Are you getting your pp from the FW group on Yahoo?

What I do is set my pp pattern - face up on my printer/copier. Then turn the dark/light setting on your printer as dark as you can get it. When you copy the pattern it will come out backwards. I hope that makes sense.

The other way to do it is to tape your pattern face down to a window and put another plain paper over it and trace the pattern onto the new piece of paper.

I like it--it's colorful without knocking you over. Don't you love that "crackle" fabric? I used that in red for my border strips. Great job on all your triangles (as usual). You are the little engine that could!! You're really catching up fast.
