Please Note: Sometimes the measurements don't reflect what the template looks like - thats
because you're not cutting a template -you're rotary cutting to get the desired finished shape.

Block # 9

1. T # 1 Dark Cut one 2 1/2" square

2. T # 3 Light Cut one strip 2 7/8" x 12" then make four 2-7/8" cuts to get 4 2-78 " squares.
pencil a line diagonally (corner to corner) on these squares.

3. T # 3 Dark Cut one strip 2 7/8" x 12 " then make four 2-7/8" cuts to get 4 2-7/8" squares.

You may take the 2-7/8" squares from steps 2 & 3 and cut them in half diagonally

OR
You can take one light and one dark square-place them right sides facing- line them up so
they are nice and squared on top of each other- sew a scant 1/4" on both sides of the
penciled line- then cut in half on the diagonal between the stitched lines.

Block # 10


1. T # 18 Cut two Light 3-1/2" squares

2. T # 18 Med Cut two 3-1/2" squares

3. T # 7 Dark Cut four 2" squares, pencil a line diagonally (Corner to corner).

Take a 2" square and place it on a corner of the 3-1/2" square right sides facing-
make sure the smaller square is placed squarely on the corner and stays that
way when you're sewing on the penciled line-press-flip the small square towards
the corner-press then trim the little triangles underneath to within 1/4"of the stitched seam.

Okay, I wrote too soon. I found them!!! All of the blocks I've seen are so pretty. Makes me wish I had time to do them now.

Honchey, thanks so much for posting the rotary cutting instructions for TFW. A few members of one of my Bees decided to make a lap quilt of TFW and I was thrilled to stumble on all the threads for this quilt on the Quilting Board. We won't be starting until the third Monday of September, since we all want to work on the blocks together and that's when the Community House is available for our machines and irons. Seeing all the block photos is a feast for the eyes. The blocks are all different, interesting and beautiful. Again, thanks for taking the time to figure out and post the rotary cutting instructions. Where areyou obtaining the Rotary Cutting Direstions for these blocks? I really want to make this quilt and even hav fabrics, but I hate templates. Help!

Everyone who's doing this also needs to have their own copy of the book. The rotary cutting instructions are not intended to replace the book. I'm posting #2 on the Forum for this quilt, in case some of you aren't aware of this.

2.All copyrights will be honored and protected. Each participant is responsible for obtaining 1 or more commercial versions of “The Farmers Wife Sampler Quilt” whether that be the book or the C.D. meant to be used with E.Q program is your choice. You do not have to have E.Q. in order to participate in this project, but many find it invaluable. There will be links listed in upcoming topics to places you can purchase either the book, or the c.d..
Because we wish to respect Laurie A. Hird's (the author's) efforts to research and document this quilt, as well as any contractual obligations she has to the publishers of the commercial products, we will not publish just a list of the blocks used in the quilt. that decision is based on ethics and because it is much safer from a legal perspective than trying to guess what would or wouldn't get somebody or everybody - including Laurie - successfully sued.

This is absolutely the correct way to handle this project and thank you rwquilts for reminding everyone. Ms. Hird's hard work and research MUST be honored. I and all four of my Bee members have purchased the book, had it bound with a coil for easier reference and are making four blocks each time we meet once a month. It is a joy to see so much excitement due to Ms. Hird's book. Belles
