Suzanne, how do you get your points so perfect when there are so many layers of fabric? I am continually amazed at the beautiful work all of you ladies do.

Is it just me or did we end up with a "broken" theme this week for these two blocks?

I use a paper gridded template for the triangles then line up the points with pins and glue baste. I also rip a lot.

Darcene, I like your blocks very pretty color wise and well made. I hope to get pictures this afternoon. I have made all twelve but may have to make one of them over. It came out too small.

Beautiful, & precise blocks Darcene!

Well, I'm back after a month's absence. I think I've learned the essentials of my digital camera and will now attempt to post pictures of my blocks 11 and 12. I haven't posted the earlier blocks since I don't think I need to clog up those sites further. :D

Oh WOW Evie, those are stunning! I love your reds and creams! Are you doing the whole quilt in this colorway? It will be amazing, I'm sure. Please, please, please post pictures of earlier blocks on their threads. Lots of us love to see all the latest ones that get posted. It's not too late and won't crowd those threads at all. Hope to see more of your pictures soon!

Here are my 11 & 12. Not so crazy about the stripes in 12. If I have enough fabric left over at the end I may redo this one. As much as I love this fabric line, I'm questioning the wisdom (or lack thereof!) of having 1/2 my fabrics either large print or stripes.  Hadn't considered that ahead of time. Still, I'll continue on and hope it all balances out in the end.

Evie, Please post your blocks. I'm going to post mine if I ever find my camera. I found the book, I hope I'm getting closer.

And, I love the stripes in block 12.

keep on sewing!

I think the stripes look great !!!

Thanks MJ. Hope your camera turns up soon. I'd love to see your blocks - you are so talented and I'm sure they're fantastic.

sew cornie 09-14-2010 04:45 PM

Thank you Honchey. I think I'm feeling they're a bit busy. I tried the stripes all going one direction but didn't want to fight with getting them all lined up just right. I'm guessing that overall in the quilt, the block will blend right in. I may just need time to get used to it as is.

I'm going to try a bunch of these blocks in xmas and orientals. I've found some light neutrals in xmas print. They're usually very hard to get in more than a couple of patterns. I lucked out today in South Carolina. I have to post my 3 threads in one hour then close up & pack the cp. We're going home tomorrow--uggh!! 12 hours of traveling!!! my backside is getting sore already just thinking about it.. Goodnite All , Anne

Sew Cornie, this is my favorite #12 so far
 I am having a hard time picking the fabric for this one because I just don't "see" this pattern do you know what I mean? Yours makes sense! I am really impressed that you got it all to line up so well. To me it looks like a beautiful trellis.

I'd like to see the rest of Evie's blocks, too; these ones are great.

sew cornie: Your blocks ALL look good, including the stripes in block 12. So far, I have several blocks I'm not really thrilled with (we're not "there" yet as a group, so they will be posted in future), but the thought of re-doing any of them just makes me ill.

sew cornie 09-14-2010 08:07 PM

Andii, you just made my day! Thank you for your lovely words. Looks like I've been outvoted here and #12 will be staying as-is.

weezie, at the average of 2 hours per block, it is very icky to think of having to do any over again. I completely agree. I would imagine that as long as one block isn't a "sore thumb", all will blend well in the end.

auntjo, your blocks are beautiful! I especially like your plaid in #12 - very pretty.

I love the stripes. I think a little spices things up. It would be hard to look at if you had tons of stripes. I love it

Here are my blocks 11 and 12 and frankly I'll be glad to say good-bye to them for awhile. My points seem to be getting worse
I love the green fabric in Broken Dishes-it reminds me of clear green water. The best thing about Broken Sugar Bowl is that it's done
Now I can go look at everyone's pictures and peek at 13 & 14.

The difficulty level is inconsistent. Here's some good news & bad news. I found blocks 22 through 28 difficult, time consuming, irritating, & am not happy with the end result on at least 3 of them. (THAT'S not the good news!) Now I'm doing #'s 29 through 32, which are a pleasure to do. Looking ahead, the next real doozies seem to be #'s 36, 37, & 38. At the end of this month, I must put the farmers' wives & their quilt blocks aside (maybe until the end of the year), as I have other things I need to do; I hoped to get all the way through #40 completed first, but 36, 37, & 38 are freaking me out just looking at the pictures.

pookie ookie 09-17-2010 02:48 PM

I love when I see fabrics I own in someone's block. I keep wanting to say, "Ooh, ooh! I have that fabric!" Fun.

Evie, love your color choices. One of my fave Dear Jane's predominately red.

rwquilts 09-20-2010 05:33 AM

Pretty color choices everyone! Loving these blocks!

omak 09-26-2010 03:40 PM

Even though I am not participating, I do own the book, it is on my bedstead, I am looking at it, and I am THRILLED to be watching all your work and colors and accomplishments.
For those who are just starting or who think they shouldn't post past blocks that they have finally caught up with, may I say
PLEASE POST ALL BLOCKS as soon as you have them done.
I watch all the threads for this project in hopes that I will figure out when to do what and how (not a lack of ability or fabric, just a choice of "to do or not to do") ....so please!
Keep posting pictures even if you are behind - - I will as soon as I start <g> <wave>

pamdux 09-26-2010 04:58 PM

I agree I love to see all the blocks as they are posted. I am almost done unpacking and ready to get back to sewing.

Hi Everyone, I think I've finally (almost) caught up. Just when I thought I had, I read a posting this evening that said we are on Blocks 17 & 18 this week. By my count I thought we were on 15 & 16 and they'd be due on the 5th. Whatever - I'll get there. Life has been hectic and I've woefully been playing "catch up" from the very beginning of this project. I couldn't rest until I had ALL my fabrics for ALL the blocks chosen, purchased washed and folded (and a good bit of them cut...not as many as I'd like cut but at least a month ahead). Now I just have to figure out what blocks I'm supposed to be working on. I haven't even had ANY time to read anything on the board since maybe August 10th or so. So tonight I hope to post all my blocks that I've done to date (and I guess I should repeat this message with each week's photo?) Hopefully I can stay with the group & ask questions of the group instead of pulling my own hair out. I am paper piecing and so far I've enjoyed this, even the frustrations that I have caused myself. I'm pretty sure I can be counted as a "convert" to paper piecing. Can't wait until I find time to look at everyone's posted blocks. Cathy in Baltimore County MD

I had these done last weekend, but lost my camera's battery charger - had to go buy a new one. I decided to do Broken Dishes REALLY scrappy - I had a bunch of leftover HSTs from other projects and just trimmed them down for this block.

pamdux 10-04-2010 07:40 AM

love the scrappy look.
