Our block for the first two weeks of February will be a Sunbonnet Sue block.
I have found many, many sites for you to look through, for there are many Sues out there. Here's the challenge... after you've picked your Sue you may opt to embellish your block according to what Sue is doing.

http://sunbonnetsue.com/ Click on the "Free Sunbonnet Patterns" - it'll take you here http://sunbonnetsue.com/patterns.html
http://www.quilterscache.com/S/SunbonnetSueBlock.html
http://qnm.com/articles/feature12/ An article about Sue's history with some neat quilt pictures included.
http://www.crystalpalaceyarns.com/equilters/library/gallery/SSue/SunBonnetSueGallery.html Some Sunbonnet quilt pictures.
http://www.stitchersneedle.com/patterns/sunbonnetsue.html Paper pieced Sue.
http://www.nmia.com/~mgdesign/qor/styles/classicblocks/sueandbill/sueandsam.html
http://www.frommarti.com/qnn.html Sue and Bill patterns

I am also including a site for "Bad Sue". You might get some "additional ideas" from this site.

The last site posted is for paper folding but I think it ought to work with folded fabric also.

I made this Sue for our Aunt and Uncle's quilt. We were using reproduction fabrics. She's rather boring just standing there doing nothing, don't you think?

Hmmm...love applique...get to embelish...this could be fun.

Yvonne 02-02-2008 07:57 AM

Thank you jbs.
I'm hoping people will enjoy the challenge here. I know I need to practice applique and this seemed like a fun way to do it!
It was so hard to select just one block for the bom! There are just so many out there that I want to do. (You should have seen the other one I was seriously looking at!)

patricej 02-02-2008 08:54 AM

i love that you tracked down so many different links for it.

although .... that folded one ....

i'm not sure whether you pat you on the back and follow up with a hug, or whine, moan, and generally complain that i now have YET ANOTHER bunch of ideas running around in my head!!! :P

Patrice,
I don't want to hear it. There's no whining allowed in quilting!!!:D
I've decided to use this block to jump start my Sue quilt to be. Oh, dear. How many WIP will this make?????  HELP! Someone needs to tell me to stop and complete a few so I can have room to start more!
Hhhhheeeeeelllllllllpppppppppppp! I'm drowning in projects!
PS
Don't you just love 'bad Sue?' Oh, the possibilities!

Uh-huh. Good thing you are not whining, Yvonne. Dear friends, imagine--if you can--being the kid sister of this woman. I (naturally) want to do everything she does! I try! I really, really try! And it's fun and I love it. However... for every 5 or 6 quilts she finishes I manage to finish (maybe) ONE! I still start the next one though! who can resist? not I!

But do I whine? well, I suppose this blatant plea for sympathy is, in fact, nothing more than a whine. Well! as Leslee says, I'll have some bread & cheese with that whine, and make it a party! :-))

patricej 02-02-2008 03:05 PM

i'll bring the veggies and dip :P

Marcella 02-02-2008 03:08 PM

We'll call it a quilting bee!

Y'know what? On Superbowl Sunday (tomorrow, if I'm not mistaken) I *won't* start a new project with one of those virtual quilting bees... I'll finish one! There!

I've got a mission! (And I'll make a Sue too!) :-))
Big plans, huh?

...it could happen!

I've noticed that this "Bad Sue" address sometimes doesn't work. If not try this
http://badsuequilts.com/

Or try going to http://sunbonnetsue.com/ and then scroll down to the Bad Sue link and click on it. Options, we have options.

P.S.
Can I come to the party if I promise to behave!??!??

Yvonne, Many thanks for your efforts in listing so many areas for us! I love the pattern and am anxious to do the iris fold! I appreciate being introduced to another area of quilting that is so new to me.
Have a wonderful day! Happy Quilting!!!

Yvonne, I made a set of New Year's Resolutions where my quilting is concerned. One of my resolutions was to finish 3 projects for every new one I start. I'm beginning to think that was a bit ambitious and I should pare it down to finishing 2 projects before starting 1. Still, I find that I am getting projects done, some of which are UFO's from the early 90s. Perhaps this will work for you. ;)

Bad Sue??? I'm going to have to go take a look at those links!

I am so glad to hear that you want to make a Sue block. Quilters have such a 'love/hate' relationship with Sunbonnet Sue I was afraid she'd be boycotted! I have grown to really like the block so I thought perhaps I could convert a few 'haters' into 'lovers'!

Tiffany, I am going to try to follow your excellent example and start finishing a few things around here. I finished my two mini quilts this week. Do they get to count as two projects finished???

PamH 02-03-2008 11:10 AM

Well Yvonne I have never done applique before, but am gonna give it a try.
My Mother had made a Sunbonnet Sue twin size quilt for my youngest daughter when she was little. I have always loved that pattern.
Thanks for choosing that block and giving me a time to think back of tucking my daughter (now 29) in under her granny's quilt.

ShellyQ 02-03-2008 11:53 AM

Wow Yvonne  , so many choices  , thanks so much for all the links, that bad Sue is soooo naughty   . I am now offically another whole month behind, oh well luckily it will be here waiting for me

Feathers 02-03-2008 02:37 PM

I have 3 roaster pans of Scrabble/Nuts and Bolts/Guck/Chex Mix in the oven as I write this so I'll bring it to the whine and cheese, veggies and dip party!

The more the merrier!~

also, Yum!

Yvonne 02-03-2008 07:51 PM

Whoever has sunshine is the designated quilting bee host/hostess! I'm getting "mossy" with all of this rain!

ShellyQ 02-04-2008 12:54 AM

That would be here then, but I think that might just be a wee bit long distance
