The FWS 30"s Quiltalong Week 49 Block 97 Tracy & Block 98 Viola

Good Morning Ladies.. We are almost done with one more week to go

Who's going to be the first to post their blocks??

QuiltingNinaSue 08-09-2016 07:21 AM

Fifteen views and no blocks to see. Is it because it only takes 94 in the queen size and everyone has stopped or just busy this time of the year?? Just getting my QR so I can work in again; progress is being made. Think I have more projects than ever to do. I want to work on them all at the same time! LOL!

Anne, I hope it's okay that I post my last 3 blocks today; easier than taking a pic next week of just one block. I'm so glad this is done but now what to do? It's almost like post-partum depression--postquilt depression LOL.

sewbizgirl 08-09-2016 09:11 AM

So pretty Jan! Now to put them together and make a beautiful quilt!

QuiltingNinaSue 08-09-2016 10:16 AM

Love those blocks, JanRN. Wish mine was done. Sigh. It takes time and effort I am not sure I have right now.

Honchey 08-09-2016 03:56 PM

Thanks Jan for posting the blocks.. They are pretty, Love the chocolate one :D

Here are my two. Got hubby's birthday shirt made today and then started on these:

Tracy:

Viola:

I had a hard time with Viola. My block came out 1/2" taller than wide! So I had to do alterations on it to make it square. You can see I'm going to lose some points.

janRN 08-10-2016 04:01 AM

Very pretty, SBG. I also had trouble with Viola--even paper piecing I had the small squares mixed up, re-did that one a couple of times and it's still crooked.

It looks perfect to me!

I have so enjoyed watching all the pretty blocks being made. I can't wait to see some finished quilts.

Here are my blocks for this week! Got the last one cut out and ready to PP.

janRN 08-10-2016 01:49 PM

Jeanie, your quilt is going to be so pretty.

sewbizgirl 08-10-2016 03:24 PM

Great blocks, Jeanie.... especially love your red Viola!

Has anyone been reading the stories as we go through the book? I started out reading them but didn't keep it up. They really keep you humble!

meanmom 08-11-2016 04:43 AM

I'm not making this quilt but have been lurking here for a while. I have seen such beautiful blocks. I can't wait to see the finished projects.

Honchey 08-11-2016 09:33 AM

Kudos to all of you that have been true to this quiltalong and have done all of the blocks..I am so proud of all of you !!!

Done! I think it'll be quite a while before I start putting the quilt together. I've got a few in line to finish ahead of this one. This was fun! I guess I'll start looking around for another BOM or quiltalong soon.

sewbizgirl 08-12-2016 08:11 AM

Those are great, Katybob!

QuiltingNinaSue 08-12-2016 09:51 AM

Love all your blocks; it has started me up again to sped toward the last block. hope to have all done by Tuesday. Wonderful to have QR all set up and comfortable to sew in again with my Bernina 1530.

janRN 08-12-2016 01:31 PM

Anne, were you calling us anal (in a nice way LOL)?

Katybob, what a relief, right? I'm setting mine straight, not on point and it makes a big quilt. i"m anxious to see yours put together but realize we need a break after staring at these for a year. Mine will get done in time or it will end up in The Box that Shall Never Be Opened. (I need another box--too many things in there)

sewbizgirl 08-12-2016 08:18 PM

Aw, we need to bite the bullet and make these blocks into quilts. Why not? Then we can hang them or put them on a bed and admire our beautiful work! I still have a dozen or so older ones to catch up on, plus #99. Maybe I should lay out what I have and just see how humongous it is already. Maybe I don't need the missing blocks.

After doing the really complicated ones at the end, I turn up my nose at some of the simple ones.

Any way... I've still got work to do on this quilt!

Honchey 08-13-2016 06:28 PM

Nah, I'm just glad that there were some plugging their way thru to the end...How many did we start out with??? there were around 30 then it dwindled down to 1/2 that then 9/10 and then to where we are now.. I've been doing these Quiltalongs since August 4th 2010..some of you have been with me since then...I'm tired of them...I did make 3 blocks for the Gypsy Wife between all the candies I worked on..little ones 3.5" there are 30 of them in the quilt!!

It's time for me to hit the hay!! I'm tired... later, H.

Now that I have finished the blocks such as are, far from perrfect but done:

JeanieG 08-14-2016 01:32 PM

It sure makes me happy to have all of these finished. I have been pressing and sliver trimming them. I just do a few at a time, it is too warm to sit in front of a hot iron.

sewbizgirl 08-14-2016 04:29 PM

Pretty colors, Nina Sue!

All of my blocks came out slightly different sizes, most being 6.25". But I have a few that are 6" and a few that are 6.5". I kinda dread trying to make them all fit, probably by finagling the settings.

Can't wait til some of you start putting yours together (HINT HINT...).

I am pressing and sliver cutting mine right now, and I agree, they are coming out mostly 6.25" also. I don't think I had this problem with the other ones we did, at least not to this extent. Glad I'm not the only one with different sizes!

sewbizgirl 08-14-2016 09:39 PM

I'm never sure whether to use a full 1/4" seam or a scant quarter, when the patterns don't say.

JeanieG 08-14-2016 09:42 PM

Even the PP ones did not come out??? Don't have a clue why!

sewbizgirl 08-15-2016 08:12 AM

Probably because they are PP in sections, and you still have to sew the sections together. I found the same thing with the row by row patterns I've done. You have to guess if they intended a quarter inch seam or a scant quarter.

sewbizgirl 08-15-2016 08:13 AM

I'm getting anxious to play with some of my pretty Civil War fabrics....

QuiltingNinaSue 08-15-2016 08:37 AM

Me. too! Have block by month Civil War Journal that got done through the third month and BF stopped coming down to work on it together. Its all sitting in its tote....all twelve months and backing too for the two quilts. Now she says she is thinking about coming down to work on it....but I am not holding my breath. I would love if she did come down and we got it done! Meanwhile, I am looking for the hook and eye sets for men's pants...I did pick up four sets from Pella, Iowa, Quilted Windmill, but have misplaced ???? where I put them. GRRRRrrrrrr. Promised dh I would work on that this week!

sewbizgirl 08-15-2016 08:54 AM

Hope your friend comes back to work on that with you, but if she doesn't why don't you work on it some by yourself? I bought so many pretty civil wars along with my 30's when I was in Paducah. And I have a great book for 8" CW blocks, not quite as hard and most of the FW blocks. I think I'm going to work my way through that book. Might even offer it as a QAL like our FW one on the board.

QuiltingNinaSue 08-15-2016 10:18 AM

I have the Barbara Brackman's Civil War Sampler book. And when the local Ben Franklin went out of business, I bought a lot of their Civil War fabric, lights, mediums and darks. Fabric is stored in totes. Not on the front burner to do or the top of the bucket list, but I have them.

Savannah finish comes first; then a couple of kits that will be quick to do. From there, I have options to thinik about.

sewbizgirl 08-15-2016 12:22 PM

That's the book I will be using, QNS. I joined the Boom swap and my fabrics are supposed to be arriving today. I'll probably want to make a dent in those before I start anything else, so I won't be jumping into the CW quilt right away either. Will let you know! :o

JuneBillie 08-27-2016 08:04 AM

So many pretty colorful blocks. :)
