The FWS Pony Club Quilt-Along 45 Block (Halfway) Milestone

It's "Time" for all you show off's to do some showing off!!! Isn't it incredible???? we're still plugging away at these blocks...Aren't we a great group of gals???? I'm starting to think about sashing for the blocks I have done and cannot figure out what color I'm going to use...I'll have to take my blocks to the quilt shop and take a look see. Anyway...I'm anxious to see your "works in progress". H.

QuiltingNinaSue 06-19-2012 06:19 PM

OK it looks like I am going to be the first.
First pic if Rows 1 to 5 and the second is rows 6 to 10.
I couldn't fit them all in :o
I have started sewing my sashing on and using Laurie's layout plan I have started to sew blocks together. I also auditioned my cornerstone fabric, tiny stars on pale blue and I am happy with it.
Hope you like them..

mirabelle 06-20-2012 02:45 AM

Just looking at them I can't tell if I have too much of any one fabric so please feel free to let me know if one fabric is jumping out at you:eek: I see a lot of red but I also see the dark blue

QuiltingNinaSue 06-20-2012 03:33 AM

Lovely!! Wonderful!! I am green with envy...(not quite green yet, since I have had no time to work on last week's and this week's!!) Great job!!

janRN 06-20-2012 04:17 AM

Oh I love them! I think the reds & blue look balanced especially with the sashing you've chosen. How different they look all together like that.
I think my sashing is the same color as yours; will try to post later today.
Beautiful, beautiful work!!!

Honchey 06-20-2012 07:19 AM

Mirabelle, I'm impressed!!! All 46 blocks....with the sashing no less! H.

oksewglad 06-20-2012 02:55 PM

What a wonderful image!! Well balanced colors, mirabelle and the cornerstones will fit it just perfectly with your sashings.

mirabelle 06-20-2012 07:50 PM

Thank you everyone, without this group and all the wonderful encouragement we receive I never would have made either the FWS or the Pony Club quilt..

QuiltE 06-20-2012 08:01 PM

Oh me oh my, MiraB ... it's prettier than I was prepared for! :) The sashings/cornerstones are going to be absolutely perfect!

mirabelle 06-21-2012 12:08 AM

Thank you QuiltE, now where are all the others???? I need eye candy:D

Here's a not-very-good pic of my first 45. I have them on a sheet in the front yard and the grass is very lumpy. Like Mirab said, please let me know what colors I'm lacking. (Other than yellow which I will force myself to use.)

QuiltingNinaSue 06-21-2012 05:12 AM

Beautiful. I love it.

Honchey 06-21-2012 05:17 AM

Wow!!! another with all the blocks up to date!!!! I'm jealous!!! Yes, Yellow, I like the coral color too!

Here's my next 15. I don't have room to lay them all out and the color is really off but I do have them done. As you can see I need to make up some more sashing but that will be next week. I got the wrong picture the first time so here are 16 through 45.

oksewglad 06-21-2012 06:25 AM

My My what wonderful blocks. Jan I can see that blue sashing with these. It's going to be oh so lovely!--your colors are so fresh and clean looking.
GGal--sashing and cornerstones complement your blocks so well--a nice balance of lights and darks.
Like several of us--I'm behind and looking forward to sewing time starting next week! Oh and we had a wonderful 1.1 " of rain last night and a comfortable cool front behind it. This is a Godsend.

janRN 06-21-2012 06:29 AM

Great combination of colors, Ggal--they all work together. I think you & I had the same concerns about mixing novelty fabrics and "normal" fabrics. But it works doesn't it? I think all laid out like that shows how a quilt is a sum of it's parts--the individual blocks combine to make the final product. Very nice job.

Termi 06-21-2012 10:17 AM

mirabelle, your blocks look just beautiful all together. But I agree with you, I see lots of red, especially in the 2nd picture, 3rd row. They'd look nice spread amongst the others maybe but I'm no expert.

JanRN, just beautiful!!!! The colors look balanced to me.

gardnergal, really lovely seeing all your blocks together. The sashing and cornerstones look great!!

Beautiful quilts in the making gals!

Mirabelle - Love the color you are using on your sashings and cornerstones. They really set off your blocks nicely.

Jan - Those are looking spectacular! You have done well distributing all the different colored blocks.

Gardnergal - Oh my, that burgundy and gold really sets off your blocks.

Well, as you all know, I'm going to make mine into two quilts. I have chosen the sashing for the Pony Quilt, and the cornerstones will be black or dark brown. My non-Pony (don't know what to call it - any suggestions???) quilt I have not decided on the sashing/cornerstones yet. The blocks were just stuck up on the display board, not in any set order as yet. I just wanted to get the photos on this page as we will be leaving on a trip for about a month, and I wanted to put everything away!

QuiltE 06-21-2012 07:32 PM

Oh such lovely work to see before I go to bed!
It's really impossible to pick a favourite grouping ... you all win, as each has different reasons why they are my favourite! :)

JanRN
... your neighbours must love it when you lay your quilts out on the front lawn! How pretty! The blue you chose is going to look spectacular and everything is going to look so fresh and cheery. What a beauty it will be. I'm sure you'll find some yellows to work in that you will "like"!!! What are you thinking of for your cornerstones?

GGal ... what a great mix of colours you have. Your sashings are perfect and those cornerstones just seem to light it all up.

JeanieG ... So wonderful! YOur brown sashings are a perfect pony colour! Are you using cornerstones or keeping it all to brown? I like the looks of your non-pony PC blocks on the design wall, so what about white sashings? A month's holiday ... wow!!!!!!!!! Will this be with your camping group entourage? .... do you ever get to check out LQS' when you're away? Have fun ... we'll miss you!

OKSGlad ... we'll be back together and at it again soon!! Your rain arrived here this afternoon with a sudden downpour, then lighter after. Will check the gauge tmro and know the results!

I am thinking black or dark brown cornerstones. I had some black squares, but could not locate them, I had stuck them up earlier.

Yes, I kind of like the white also, maybe go with a cream - white seems so harsh to me, for the other quilt.

We are traveling for around 8 days with our friends, who are also in our camping group. We travel with them a lot. Then they are returning home, and we are going on to Toppenish, WA, where I have a grandson to visit. Then over to Whidbey Island, WA where our best friends live on 3 1/2 acres. They have a spot with full hookups for our motorhome, so we usually stay a couple of weeks with them. Then we will head back to California.

We will have WIFI quite often during our trip, so should be able to keep up on the Board. My friend and I always go shopping for fabric when I am there. There is a wonderful fabric shop in Annacortes, that I purchased a lot of my Pony fabric last year.

I always take my little light weight Brother machine for piecing, so hope to stay caught up on my blocks. The problem will be with the fabric, I'll take the box I have all the Pony fabric in, but I often open my dresser that has all my smaller pieces to pull others for the blocks. Can't take the dresser - LOL! I also have some other projects that I can work on that I am taking along.

We are leaving next Wednesday.

dublb 06-22-2012 04:21 PM

Yay for Jeanie! You are gonna have a ball!

janRN 06-22-2012 05:22 PM

Jeanie, I like the idea of 2 quilts. And I love all the blocks and colors you've chosen. Have a great time on your trip!

Termi 06-23-2012 04:03 AM

JeanieG, Your blocks look great together!!! I like the sashing for your PC quilt. You're going to have 2 beautiful quilts. I hope you have a great time on your trip.

mirabelle 06-23-2012 05:54 PM

Ok I have just arrived home after 2 days with DD and everyones blocks are beeeeeaaaaaauttttiful.....

QuiltE 06-24-2012 07:22 PM

JeanieG ... the dark brown or black to keep the sashings/cornerstones would create a more blended and not so spotty look. Great idea! Looks like you have a wonderful trip planned ...... although I do think you should do a trip into Canada while up in Washington!!! Well, if you don't have the fabrics you want/need, then you'll just have to buy more!!!!!! :) Habe a great trip!!

grannyQ 06-29-2012 08:36 AM

All the 45 quilt blocks shown are very pretty, done in all kinds of colors, and very well done.
Here is mine.

GrannyQ, how beautiful all your blocks look together. You're going to have a stunning quilt!!!!

QuiltE 07-01-2012 05:33 AM

I'm with the others, GrannyQ ... you have a spectacular grouping that are going to make for an outstanding quilt.

QNSue ... Me too ... wanting to get back in the PC saddle and do a catch up and post!

DDamsel ... neither can we! So hurry and get that photo op set up! :)

JeanieG 07-01-2012 11:36 AM

Oh how beautiful GrannyQ! Now I'm curious what color you going to use for the sashing! WIFI is spotty where we are, keeps going on and off - so frustrating. Also soooooo slooooow! Takes forever to load a photo.
