Looks like you are off to a great start, Termi. The one set of stars in the blue fabric remind me of spurs.

It is such fun to see these blocks with all the ponys! Beautiful work, as usual, QNS!

ArteEmCasa 01-21-2012 02:38 PM

Termi - I love Yellow and blue combo, very well done !

QuiltingNinaSue - Great blocks. The center of A Beauty just seems to pop up.
Beautiful fabrics. Love them.

oksewglad 01-21-2012 05:01 PM

QNinaSue, the black in the first is so striking; particularly like the stripes in around the wonderfully placed horses in the second, too.

Well here goes! I was pretty smug because I did the Dandy first. Then I did A Beauty using templates which I carefully cut out of cardstock making sure everything was 100%. Love my 1/4" foot. Everything was fine until I put the corner triangles on and wow my block is 8" not 8 1/2. I left the block untrimmed to show how off it was. Any ideas on what went wrong, Will probably redo it but wanted some input from your fine quilting minds. So here' A Dandy and then A Beauty (in the eyes of the beholder for sure!)

QuiltingNinaSue 01-28-2012 07:18 PM

No words of wisdom here; I like your fabric choice and colors you have....also your comment" beauty" in the eyes of the beholder" which is what we all do in making any block pattern our own quilt block pattern. Which happens with Laura Aaron Hird block patterns in her books..each of us "create" our own stories and meanings to our own quilts following her guide lines. And what this QB pony group does so well, each block, in their own way, creating beautify blocks. Just my 2 cents worth. Have fun, enjoy the journey.

dublb 01-28-2012 07:29 PM

It took me a little bit of looking to see what was wrong. Your center block is supposed to be square , not on point. When you turn it you will see that you put your corners on to the wrong corners. Clear as mud? It takes a little bit of look'n to see it. I can see myself making this mistake.:o

QuiltE 01-28-2012 07:36 PM

OKSGlad ... great start there lady! Now you really are waaaaaaaaay ahead of me! Nice job of those fussy cut centres and beautiful fabric blends. Looks like Eagle-Eyes DublB has found an easy solution to your dilemma!

DublB ... Good I Spy there!!! :)

dublb 01-28-2012 07:47 PM

Oksewglad - Your Dandy is lovely! I should've said so first! I'm so glad that you are on this trail now! The Beauty seems to be the hardest so far.

In a Slim Pickens drawl, "Welllll I'lllll be...." Thanks Bev! I am "sew glad" I did not trim those corners up. It still may not be a perfect 8 1/2" when corrected, but it should definitely look right. Note to self--refer to block before final piecing! I feel so much better. You guys are just the greatest!! Thanks for the welcome, too.

Thanks QNinaSue in regards to fabrics. I have a nice collection of Kansas Troubles fabrics and think I will sneak in some Jo Morton, Jan Patek, Thimbleberries, Minick and Simpson if they blend well. I have always used fabrics I like regardless of which "line" they come from.

janRN 01-29-2012 05:59 AM

Very pretty. I'm SewGlad you showed your mistake--helps us all to learn and makes me feel not as dumb. I love the fabric, especially that troublesome center square. Both blocks are beautiful.

Here is one of the blocks I finished at my retreat last weekend. Block needs to be pressed again, but I didn't feel like getting the iron out just for pictures. :) A Beauty will come later.

Carrie

janRN 03-17-2012 05:22 PM

Very, very pretty. I love the contrast between the 2 fabrics. That dark fabric is beautiful. Great job!

How was your retreat? I've never been to one but they sound like so much fun; hope you had a good time.

carriem 03-17-2012 05:34 PM

The retreat was a lot of fun! You never get done as much as you want to, but it is usually a GREAT TIME!

JeanieG 03-17-2012 06:06 PM

Great job Carrie! So glad you are joining us.

oksewglad 03-17-2012 06:55 PM

I just wanted to make sure I do this right. We are doing them in order as they are in the back of the book not in the order of the stories correct?
