OK, I'm going to oooh and aaah you all because you all deserve it!!

Honchey, Love your country lanes. It reminds me of King of the Road. I like that you slipped a cowboy and horse in there. Great job.

JeannieG, great job and great colors!! I hope my cowboy star comes out half as good as yours. It's a challenge.

QuiltE, Wow, your cowboy star looks perfect and what great colors!!! I like the cowboys on the country lanes, great fabric.

anael, beautiful colors in both blocks and WOW to your cowboy star!!! Great job!!

mirabelle, what cute star fabric in country lanes. Love your color combo in cowboy star. Great job on both!!

JanRN, I give you a WOW on your cowboy star, nice points, nice contrast. Great job on both and beautiful colors!!

ArteEmCasa, great fabric, I like the horse and carriage on the country lanes. WoW on your cowboy star, very striking. love that star fabric. Nice job on both!!

wendiq, Great job on both!! Looks like you conquered cowboy star, love the colors!!

oksewglad, beautiful colors in both blocks. Nice wildflower fabric on country lanes. I would say you definitely conquered cowboy star. The two blocks look great together!!

gardnergal970, Beautiful fabrics in both blocks. I give you a WOW for country star, looks like you conquered it. Nice job on both!!

I only have country lanes done. For some reason I'm having a hard time picking fabrics for cowboy star, hmmmm.
Plus, I think it'll take me a long time to do it. Will post it sometime in the future.

gardnergal970 03-09-2012 09:24 AM

Termi...love the choo choo's and flowers. Xoxoxoxoxo!

oksewglad 03-09-2012 10:16 AM

Such cute trains rolling across the "hills". Notice how they give movement to the block--if they were on straight tracks, the block would be more stiff and formal.

Anael 03-09-2012 12:07 PM

Those trains on the country lanes are lovely :D

janRN 03-09-2012 02:14 PM

Ooh & aah right back at ya!! That block is so cute-love it.

mirabelle 03-09-2012 03:51 PM

Great blocks this week, I am always here reading the posts but most of the time Windows kicks me out when I am trying to post a reply. Then I just get frustrated after typing my message three times and it still won't let me chat.
Don't know what gremlins are at work, I love seeing everyones blocks each week. I have picked Sunday as my PC day so tomorrow I am working on the next 2.
Have a great weekend everyone

JanieW 03-09-2012 05:39 PM

I am late to the party because I've been away being gramma for two weeks, but I must say I love all the blocks.

I can't get over how much I like all your blocks, the fabrics have me drooling. I am daunted by the cowboy star and am very impressed by all of the ones I see here. Good on ya everybody!

wendiq 03-10-2012 07:25 AM

Termi.....We ALL love those darling choo choo's......just too cute......perfect use of that fabric. And the "x's" look just like RR crossing signs.......SO CUTE! As for the Cowboy Star, don't let all the talk scare you. I did it before I knew I should dread it....LOL! Like I said before, "guess I'm weird", but I really didn't have a problem and I pp'd it......and from what I'm seeing, any fabric combinations look good.....:)

QuiltE 03-10-2012 11:24 AM

Playing catch up here! (and my apologies if I miss someone!

OKSGlad ... as always, your fabrics are so nicely coordinated, and seem to give a calming effect. I see your another one who creatively went for organization! Like how you did 2+2 for the star points. I "almost" did that, then jumped back to total organization! :)

ArteEC ... now there's a Cowboy's Star if we ever saw one! A star shining brightly in a field of stars. Well done!

GGal ... for some reason I am now going down that Country Lane and singing ....
♪♪♫http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wn8vK1NMK5g ♫♪♪
Gee thanks for the earbug ... but it's fun!! :)
The Cowboy Star fabrics are really helping give that block motion. I see that OKSGlad has already spotted that paisley .... better put it under lock and key!! :)

Giggles ... yes I'm giggling at all the FART chatter! Looks like Evie and Sis have that one down to the best! And good for you JanRN for your FARTs ... a gal's gotta do what a gal's gotta do! And bonus points to DH for just not asking! :)

I sometimes do FARTs solo ... no one to slow me down or try to speed me up when I'm wanting more time. I love doing Shop Hops that are at a distance that way ... my mini holiday with a sleepover or two, and the ability to just stop or change course whenever, wherever catches my eye ... fabrics, antiques, whatever!!!

OKSGlad ... for those amputee PP parts, I keep a roll of painter's tape at the sewing machine for bandaids! You can iron over it without problems ... whereas scotch tape melts, and can make a real mess!

Termi ... Great train fabric. OKSGlad beat me in saying how the "rolling" trains give such nice movement to the block.

Reminds me of farm and my current home ... our first farm that we rented had a major train line along the north boundary of the farm; the farm we later purchased had the same train line at the boundary of our next-farm neighbour; and my current home, has the same tracks on the back edge of my property. So I've lived with trains for sometime ... and hardly even noticed them now, even though it's a busy line. It's the line that runs from Toronto thru to Sarnia/Port Huron, and onwards to North Indiana and then Chicago, etc. So I guess I could always hop that train to head off to visit many of you! :)

QuiltE 03-10-2012 11:46 AM

OOPS! .. forgot to say THANK YOU EVERYONE for all the kind words for my offerings this week.

oksewglad 03-10-2012 03:38 PM

Growing up I lived a mile (as the crow flies) from a small town. Whenever the train went through it would sound it's whistle. Often went to sleep just as the haunting sound blew across the prairie. A safe pleasant memory, thanks for jogging it, QE.

gardnergal970 03-11-2012 04:59 AM

QuiltE....I haven't heard that song forever! I always liked it. As for the FART, I usually like to be alone as well. It takes me sometime to put together and my LQS let's me wander around with pattern and fabrics. I don't like to be rushed.

:) .... neither had I
GGal, so I'm not really sure why it came to mind. I guess your block just "did" it!! :)

Same here, but I have a QB (Quilt Buddy) that goes with once in a while. We enter a store and part ways, criss crossing and commenting back and forth on our foray through the shop. She has convinced me I need more greens and I have switched her to more blues. It's time for us to go again!

ArteEm--sharp colors reinforced by the stars in the bground. I have found that I usually will only rip twice, if I haven't gotten it right by then I never will and yes this was a time consuming block. I had more trouble sewing that last "Y" seam. When I tore some of the seam allowance paper off it tore into the big triangle block and I lost my seam allowance and made sewing that a bugger. I've learned not to stress over it either--just not worth it, it's only a quilt.
GGal Nice bright blues in the lanes, a refreshing change. What's the paisley fabric in the bground of your star? Yeah it's probably my favorite type of fabric. Your star points complement it so well.

I'm afraid I am with you on this one OK. I will only rip out three times, then it just stays the way it is. Quilting is suppose to be fun, and when all put together, those little mistakes do not show at all! At least that is my story, and I'm sticking to it! :o

Om, I think I can load couple of photos: Wow. Always marvel how it works or does not work. Honchey, Cowboy's Star has something familiar about it. Loved to see how many stars I could get into the block. Cowboy Corpus sang: "Don't let the stars get into your eyes, or the moon break your heart" and all the other shows we listened too back then. Think the maps show us headed North, or the pony tracks are headed that. Hello, North Pole?, over it and then we are headed South again for an early Spring. Our tulips and daffodils are up!!!

QuiltE 03-13-2012 12:49 PM

WOW! QNSue ... you sure put a lot of planning and thought you've put into these blocks (and others too!)

And here I thought that you were heading North to Canada to visit JanieW and moi! That'd be some journey and GTG. :) Incredible FC for the cowboys.

No bulbs showing life yet ......... though I saw two big fat robins on my front lawn today. (wonder? if they ever left this year?)

janRN 03-13-2012 01:42 PM

Great blocks, QNS--love the bright colors. I really like all the stars in Cowboy Star. If yinz are heading north, stop by Western PA, too--the dafodils have buds already. It's 72* here today!! Yippee-ki-ay!! (how in the world do you spell that???)

QuiltingNinaSue, your blocks are fabulous!!!!!! Great fabric and very creative!! Love the colors as well.

Ok, I'm going to post my Cowboy Star, now no snickering. I need a lot more practice with these inset seams. When I was putting it together one half came out almost perfect, then no matter what I did I couldn't get the other half to come out any good. I don't get it. I'm going to try doing it again for the practice, that is when I have the energy for it.

QuiltingNinaSue 03-13-2012 03:39 PM

Love the color the the Stars!!! Good choices.

janRN 03-13-2012 05:25 PM

Termi, believe me, no snickering here. I love the fabric you used. Confession time: DH takes the pics of my blocks and I'm always asking him why my blocks look crooked in the pics when they're not crooked in real life. Well...my Cowboy Star is that crooked in real life. I just pretend that it's his fault and the pic is off. I cannot grasp these inset seams. I sit at my machine with a "quilting bible", the directions from a magazine, and suggestions I printed from here and I still can't figure out what to do with all the seams at the intersections. Sew up to them, then what? Oh well, I guess we keep trying!

Termi 03-13-2012 05:53 PM

JanRN, thank you!!!!! Boy, you said it. Even when I think I know what I'm doing it still doesn't come out right. Well, on to the next challenges.

QuiltE 03-13-2012 05:56 PM

Termi ... great block. Your colours and fabrics are both perfect for the occasion!

JanRN .... Yup ... sew up to them, then re-pin for the next seam (other part of the Y), then start at where you leftover and continue on with what you just pinned. Yours have been looking just fine!

And now we know that any imprefections are due to the photographer! :)

dublb 03-13-2012 06:16 PM

Hey Ya'll, I'm back! I can't believe how wonderful all of ya'lls blocks are! Wow!
I did git the package from QNS. Wonderful fabrics w/ lots of stars. I'll take a pict later. I'm so excited to use 'em in my blocks!
I must say that at my retreat I didn't get near as much done as I thought I would. I spent all of Friday trying to FMQ on my DGSon's Solar system quilt. I did a lot of frog stitching. When i finally got it ginnin', I quilted it in 45 min. I do have about 10 or 12 small places that I have ta rip out. I'll git that done pretty quickly. I did git one PC block done.
Boy I did have a great time! I started a strip quilt & we all pitched in & made a 10 min block quilt for Project Linus. They will auction it off for funds. We used 2 Layer Cakes to make it. I stayed up all hours & played! I'm exhausted! When I got there I realized that I had left my charged battery for my camera at home. :( I'll post picts of the things that I brought home & my plates later.

oksewglad 03-13-2012 06:25 PM

QNS where do you find all those appropriate fabrics? Just great fabric placement--again.
Termi--I'm confused as I try to see what's wrong with your C Star. Love the contrast.

I blame my blips on not getting the block in the scanner straight---we all have to name a scapegoat!
Off on a road trip tomorrow, so will be AWOL. Well DH didn't say I should stay home:shock:

QuiltE 03-13-2012 06:25 PM

Hey There, DublB .... Good to see you back with us. I'd started to wonder if you and CarrieM had skipped town on us and decided to just continue to enjoy the retreat-life! Of course, we always plan to do more than what is realistic. So it's good to know that you are "normal"!!!!! :) Maybe you didn't take your camera, so there'd be no evidence? :)

I'll be back to check on y'all tomorrow/Wednesday night!

Very nice blocks everyone as usual. :)

I too am back from my retreat and recovering. I had a productive Thursday night...made a bag that is safe for my travel iron when it is still warm. Then on Friday Crystal and I were able to get 2 PC blocks done...A Dandy and Alabama...will try to post pictures tomorrow in the appropriate threads.

Saturday I made a bag for the D9P with pink, teal, greens and browns that I posted before...well it is almost done anyways just needs handles. I also have everything cut for the Apple Tree block (or whatever it is called). Saturday afternoon I took a break from sewing and made 12 cards the other ladies had designed. I didn't get as much done as I wanted to either, but I did have a very good time.

Unfortunately my weekend ended with a trip to the ER...I got a migraine and started getting sick around mid-night and by 3am my friends decided I wasn't getting any better and took me...thankfully it was only about 15 min from the camp. They gave me anti-nausea meds and iv fluids and also a shot of migraine meds...I got home a little after 5 and slept most of Sunday. The last 2 days I haven't done much but sit around and nap. I suffer with migraines but have NEVER had one so bad in my life!

Maybe by the weekend I will feel up to sewing again....

Carrie

dublb 03-13-2012 07:00 PM

Oh no, Carrie!!:( Migraines are bad!! Git better soon!!!{Huggs}

QuiltE 03-13-2012 07:19 PM

Oh dear, CarrieM ... looks like it was a great weekend until the migraine!
Take it easy this week, until your body is back and ready to go again.

oksewglad 03-13-2012 10:58 PM

Oh it's been a while since I've had a migraine, Carrie, but you never forget how bad they are. Just take it easy and rest up now.

Thanks for the song, QE...be back soon.

mirabelle 03-14-2012 03:26 AM

Beautiful blocks again ladies, love your star QNS
Hope you are feeling better CarrieM, migraines are the worst....

gardnergal970 03-14-2012 04:47 AM

Termi and QNSue...I almost missed your stars. Really great work.
Carrie..migraines are so disabling. Sorry you missed the last day of your retreat but glad you got some relief.

QuiltE 03-14-2012 07:16 PM

CarrieM ... checking in to see that you are resting!! and not re-activating that migraine! Snuggle up with a quilt and just relax.

OKSGlad ... hope that the weather cooperated for your road trip and that all went well. (maybe even found a LQS or two on the route?) I haven't done mine yet ... There's really no reason I need to rush at it, so decided I'd feel better putting it off til I get FWS all put together and can reward myself with it, plus had enough "work" (the paying stuff) to get done and couldn't go with a clear conscience for now either.

Not happy with my blocks, Will try and redo when I get time. Not to bad for a beginner but when I get time I will redo them. I am over whelmed with everyones blocks they are beautiful. I wish mine were as nice.

gardnergal970 03-18-2012 03:23 PM

Cookie...I like your blocks. Don't be so hard on yourself. You can be very proud of your work. Some of them are really very complicated.

oksewglad 03-18-2012 03:36 PM

Cookie your red, black and white is very striking. The Country Lanes colors will look great with your blues and browns. Just keep at it!

janRN 03-18-2012 05:08 PM

I like your blocks--you really have good contrast. Love your color choices.

Cookie,

You are doing great. Your fabrics are gorgeous. I love that you stuck with how Laurie did her cowboy star with one of the points of the star different than the other three. I couldn't bring myself to do it that way so good on ya!

I did manage to get the black and white backwards, but that wasn't on purpose. Once I realized that I had done, it I decided to leave it.
