Oh QuiltE that would be great fun for you!

QuiltE 03-21-2012 06:45 PM

ArteEC .... Yes indeed ... I'm glad I'm a Canadian Cool Cat! Good to have two extra lives!!!!!!!!!

JeanieG ... have you ever seen Kaffe? I didn;'t even know the fabric existed til last summer when I was in that LQS for a Shop Hop! Some of it seems a bit bright and gawdy, even for me, who likes colour! On the other hand ... I absolutely LOVE a lot of the finished quilts and pics that I have seen that Kaffe has designed!

Has
ANYONE been?

I too really like his designs. I know people that have met him and he doesn't come across with any warm and fuzzies so go for his expertise and not his personality and you probably won't be disappointed.

I have seen the Kaffe fabric, but can't say I am "In love" with it. Awfully busy for me. I just got a piece of Kaufman Fusions D#5573 that I am "In Love" with. It was 30% off at a fabric shop. It is considered a blender, and has a bush type design. It is several shades of blue. They had many other colors too, but this one just called "Buy Me"! Don't know what I am going to do with it yet, but just HAD to have it!

Thank you all for the anniversary wishes. QNS you forgot to mention I was a child bride and I'm not old enough to be married this long. Just kidding--we've been together since I was 16!! Our exciting celebration: a 2 hour motorcycle ride. We've never had the bike out this early--everything is in bloom and just as green as if it were May; just beautiful.

QE: I'd love to see KF in person. I have a couple of his books. I think his quilts and fabric are really busy but somehow he brings it all together with beautiful results.

GGal ... thanks for that tip! I have no idea about what to expect, even in going to a course presented by someone like this!

JeanieG ... ITA with the busy and just too much. And then there's some of the fabrics that just don't seem wild enough. If I take his course, I will probably go with a "safe" choice using fabrics that I've seen made up. I just found Fusions this winter ... I think there's some different pattern/designs, not just one with different colours? The ones I latched onto were just sort of an all over design. Actually that's what I was using for FWS cornerstones at first, then stepped aside from. Please show us a pic of what you got!

Forgot to tell
Y'all ... the two one days are Sunlight in the Forest and Bordered Diamonds Maybe they'll have kits?

JanRN ... guess we'll just have to start calling you Motorcycle Momma!! Yeaaaa for you two going off for a celebratory "cruise"!! Do you ever come up to Port Dover for the Friday 13ths? As for Kaffe ... you're close enough that you could attend WITH ME!!!! Whadya think? Isn't it about now that you take off on your quilting expedition? :)

gardnergal970 03-22-2012 06:19 PM

You guys won't believe it...I almost don't...but the workshop that I'm attending is taught by Mary Buvia. She is one of 25 people in the world classified as Master Quilter by the American Quilters. Here is a link to one of her quilts. http://www.ihqs.org/images/2011gallery/502_Full.html
It doesn't do justice to her work. I can't even describe how beautiful it is...and she is so humble about it while being so passionate about her craft. Maybe a little will rub off and I'll be able to do feathers! I did get my blocks from last week done but haven't had time to post them. I did get the garden planted with the cool crop stuff. Only so many hours in the day...

WOW ... that's some incredible quilt! What an experience for you ... we'll all look forward to hearing all about the workshop and Mary after you return! This weekend?

Congratulations! on your garden completion ... now to let it grow and to hoe!
:)

Here is a sample of the quilting workshop from last week. Mary also does what are called art quilts...not the traditional blocks like we are doing...and they are breathtaking. She has a book coming out this summer called At The Loading Dock in which she goes through her quilt by that name and details all of the techniques and tips she uses to get the affect she wants. My LQS is scheduling her continuing education class monthly and I want to try to attend. The key for me will be to practice so that it really is worth learning more. She is also a spokesman for Superior Threads and is giving a threads class in May which I've signed up for. She uses 100 weight silk thread for her piecing and much of her quilting and every other weight and kind of thread inbetween. You can't see too much variation of the thread in my sample but it's there. The local Indianapolis museum has asked her to display her quilt Fairy Lace along with her husbands painting by the same name which was her inspiration. I've really never seen anything like her work and it's such an opportunity to be in her classes. She is totally approachable and takes each student at her particular level and encourages her on. Amazing.

WOW! That is amazing quilting!!! Is that all free motion?? And is that really a paper clip at the top? What is the measurement of the rectangle??

edited...

Ok now I see legs on the bottom of the picture...must just be a "quilt clip" :)
