The FWS Pony Club Quilt-Along wk 35 Patience Corners & Pleasant Paths Discussion Page

Week 35....70 blocks! What was I thinking when I signed up for this!!! I've been busy with the grandkids since I cam home on Sunday and I have nothing done except fabric choice and cutting the pieces of fabric & foundations...I hope to get some sewing done this week..I just got together 2 chairs & an end table for DH to take with him to NC. I wish I coud go with him....it's not to be this time....sooo...I will be rearranging my sewing area now that It's minus some stuff....H.

janRN 09-04-2012 05:02 PM

With DH off to NC hopefully you'll get some sewing time. 70 blocks along-wow. I agree, though, what was I thinking but then I remember that FWS was 111 blocks. What were we thinking LOL??

QuiltingNinaSue 09-04-2012 06:51 PM

Blocks are done, need to photograph and post tomorrow. Adjusting for DD and GS visit, clearing out the guest room, and re-arranging quilt room. Installed new kitchen screen door (the kind that slams shut) and painted it old brick red with DH, and worked with him outside to promote quineas to a larger wide open former dog run to roost in overnight. Put wire over the top and roosts in, with food and water in and they walked into it like it was about time we presented them with a new home. They cooed their thanks and went to roost. No eggs yet from the pullets...gotta talk to those girls...about gettin' down to doing their job.

No blocks here yet. I'm in mourning. Today DH and I drove 200 miles for my dear aunt's funeral, the aunt I was named after. She lived a wonderful 92 years having a life some of us only dream of. But my heart is still sad for she is the last of my mother's siblings and a chapter closes in my family's history.

mirabelle 09-04-2012 08:18 PM

So sad to hear of your loss Oksewglad, but you will always have her in your heart.

No blocks from me yet, I have just finished cutting out Patience Corners so I am off to start sewing..

Honchey 09-04-2012 09:51 PM

Oksewglad, I am so sorry....H.

QuiltingNinaSue 09-05-2012 04:33 AM

So sorry, Oksewglad, for your loss. Can you do some memorial quilts in her memory, at least, for you? And you will cherish her memory in your heart, I am sure.

gardnergal970 09-05-2012 05:14 AM

OKsewglad...so sorry for your loss. I remember when I became the oldest generation in the family. A very sobering moment.

oksewglad 09-05-2012 06:25 AM

Thank you for your words of sympathy. Oh a trip around the world is the quilt to make and must include some Oriental prints.......She was a career Army Nurse. As small children we learned about our world from where she was stationed and the gifts she would send.

janRN 09-05-2012 07:49 AM

OK so sorry for your loss. What great memories you have of her--treasure them.

JeanieG 09-05-2012 10:51 AM

OK - I really feel for you, one of my uncles is not doing well at all! I have one uncle (age 92) left on my mom's side and one uncle (age 82) left on my dad's side! Talk about the "older" generation - I am now there. I was the oldest grandchild on my dad's side also, and my youngest cousin is 39. I have kids older than that! I am sure making a quilt in her honor will be a cherished memory of her.

Honchey 09-06-2012 07:45 PM

JeanieG...You are the cp wizard so I have to ask...how can I crop a photo of a block that isn't scanned..I open paint and it will let me do many things but not crop.

Thanks, Jeanie. I think a mini TATW is the ticket. For her 90th BD I made her this little quilt. She loved it.

Use Picassa (a free google program). You can crop in that, and then use the resize feature to shrink the original so you can upload it to the Quilting Board.

This is now my messy sewing room. I have spent the day cutting 840 triangles in blue and 840 in cream, tomorrow I tackle the pile of purple fabric.
I spun the ironing board around so I could embroider and cut at the same time, (I'm left handed). The go cutter has certainly been working overtime today.

All I can say is that I hope your DD appreciates how much you love her to do all the cutting for her quilt even if you used the go cutter! That's a lot of cutting. BTW, she chose lovely fabric.

carriem 09-07-2012 05:19 AM

OK--Sorry to hear about your uncle.

Mirabelle--WOW! That's a lot of squares/HST! Can't wait to see your progress after the retreat. I too am getting things ready this week for the retreat next...so excited!!

JeanieG 09-07-2012 10:37 AM

Yep, it looks like prep for a Bonnie (Quiltville) quilt. She loves those HST! Except she usually give us a week to cut and sew them.

deranged_damsel 09-08-2012 04:58 AM

I also made a crochet afghan for brides parents since I couldnt meet them, which they LOVED :D
my son had his cast removed and seems to be back to business with life, he still needs to work with it more, do some therapy. my sister is here to help me for a bit, I was hoping she would help me get caught up on cutting out PC blocks, but she brought her quilt she wants me to help her with... so we will see :D

Well they wouldn't be complete w/o barbed wire from DD!

oksewglad 09-08-2012 11:45 AM

LOL, DD!! So funny. Aren't you lucky to have a sis to sew with? Mine was here for a week (hadn't seen her for about 4 years) and we spent lots of time in the sewing room sharing ideas. We had a PP lesson too.

Thanks Ggal, my DS came over for dinner with me and after he went home I was on the phone with DH when a car pulled into my driveway and it was my DD, she drove home (about 1 1/2 hours) to spend the night with me. It was a lovely surprise and we went out for lunch on Saturday

Happy Birthday to everyone having a birthday this month.

I can't wait to see how these all work up. My bins are beginning to fill up with only a weeks worth of cutting so I'm beginning to look at her patterns. To many things going now to start another project but I love to dream.

dublb 09-09-2012 11:35 AM

As I got old, I was told I would get smarter as I grew older; must be I am getter younger, 'cause I have not gotten smarter..Nope, guess not..cause I cannot turn the picture here.

JeanieG 09-09-2012 04:05 PM

Aaww great photo of you and your hubby QNS! My gosh that turkey is getting big. What does it weigh anyway? I would get too attached to them to have them for dinner! LOL

janRN 09-09-2012 05:04 PM

Great pic, QNS. Looks like Thanksgiving dinner there (although mine will come nicely wrapped in plastic from the market, thank you)

dublb 09-09-2012 05:23 PM

Look again guys, we are each holding a turkey...'cause we are equal in being a turkey ourselves...Jerry has one of the Toms, and I have the hen. No way to winter them here except in the freezer. They take in after the ducks to show them who is boss; the ducks, especially the little black one, will harass the turkeys. Little black duck loves to slip up behind a turkey and nip him/her in the rear.Duck eggs.

QuiltingNinaSue 09-09-2012 05:39 PM

SIL wished to hold a turkey; but insisted on wearing his dark glasses. Gs is getting to 'pet' the turkey. SIL was not raised on a farm, and hates to see us put the turkeys into the freezer.

oksewglad 09-09-2012 05:47 PM

Great pics, QNS. Thanks for sharing. Sounds like your "Daffy" duck is a tease! :D I am surprised that you can pick the turkeys up--I figured they'd squirm all over.

QuiltingNinaSue 09-10-2012 02:32 AM

They are gentle quiet creatures, who rule their territory but think we might be their parents...so they will let me 'catch' them and hold them without any problems. The eggs are the first duck eggs we have ever seen...thought everyone might want to look at them. We 'wrangle' the herd of turkeys with brooms guiding them along.

gardnergal970 09-10-2012 04:34 AM

Love the pictures. What memories for your GS. Those turkeys will make a lot of feasting this winter. Will the daffies also go in the freezer?
