OMG ... I'm laughing with you JanRN and can see your beet red complexion! I bet that he had this planned to use it at this most opportune time. I hope that you reminded him there are options for that "D" in his DGS acronym!!!!! :)

How old is this DGS who went off on a CART yesterday?

And BTW do tell us all about your FART yesterday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

gardnergal970 10-06-2012 08:50 AM

QNS...I too am waiting to get the bonus blocks before I do any final assembly, and having them signed? What a spectacular idea. The block I've planned has plenty of room for my name.
Jan, thanks for the heads up but I think it was very thoughtful of your DGS to ask. I wonder if he even thought about what other people's reactions would be, let alone yours. How is the LA? Is it adapting well to it's new home.

QuiltingNinaSue 10-06-2012 10:15 AM

Funny, JanRN, but my face would have turned red, too!! I used to get mad at older women who referred to their husbands, calling them that until we have reached that age ourselves....and as I told my bf, "There is a reason they are called that!" They do get to know how to push our buttons because we have spoiled them so much. I think that is why QB ladies (and gents) have thought up all those "short" terms by letters. Its like the text messages people do today, shorting up words, then use it everywhere else.

My new computer did not put the contact list into ABC order at first...are we not teaching the ABCs any more?? Apparently, not the tech programers who do their own thing. Progress, they call it.

Yes, I want QB names on blocks and dates with permanent pen for my exchange. Some change their name to another on line, and that is OK with me....just when I get an email from them under the 'real' name...it set off an alarm, saying "who is this?" Yes, it has happened to me on this trail, and challenged my mind for a bit, but they were kind enough to write back and inform me of their QB name...straightening out the matter and my poor mind. Yes, the blocks from all of you are very important to me and will give my quilt some real 'class'!

QuiltE 10-06-2012 10:26 AM

............. you're sending me into tears, QNSue .... It's going to be such a nice special touch to our project!

JeanieG 10-06-2012 10:27 AM

That is so funny Jan. I want to know more about your new "toy". How is that working out! I am so jealous!

carriem 10-06-2012 11:30 AM

I too had thought about adding the "sign your blocks" to the Bonus Block "details". :) If someone doesn't want their blocks signed, please let us know. Either way is ok! Right now we have 10 people signed up. I was going to go to the shop that sells KT fabrics last night (during the Choc. Walk as she was on the list), but there was a sign on the door saying she had a prior commitment so was closed. I am sure she was in Des Moines at the big quilt show there this weekend. Guess I'll have to go next week...need some yardage for my bonus blocks.

Jan--I had to share your "FART" story with my family. They thought that was funny too...sorry for your embarrassment! I too would have been bright red!

The Choc Walk last night was fun. We didn't get to all the shops, but got lots of good treats...mini cupcakes at a couple places, little candy bars, breads...there was a chocolate bread pudding that was very yummy at one of the bakeries. I don't know that I have ever had bread pudding before. Popcorn, balloons, a dance, kazoos...

Some shops had sales...got the kids some t-shirts for $2 each and hoodies for $5 each...plus 2 free t-shirts for spending $20. There was a toy store (all educational "toys") that we will go back to. Found out they give a 10% discount for "educators" so since I homeschool can get that.

I went into a new antique store and also a shop that has "art/crafts" made by people in the area. Found out they have classes to teach different things, so got on the mailing list.

My dd's (almost 11) favorite part was going up to a dance studio (teach ballroom dancing). She was dancing around to the music a bit and one of the instructors asked her if she would like to learn how to do the "swing". She said yes and she learned a few steps. I wish I had had my camera...she was so happy.

Didn't get anything at the auction today. There was a great variety, but nothing I felt I just had to have/wanted to wait around for. The one thing I really wanted went for more than I wanted to spend. Do you remember the drawer made into a sewing box I got for my dd on my retreat a couple weeks ago? Well there were 2 drawers just sitting in a bucket with the exact same design/handles as the one I bought. I thought it would have been fun to make a couple more sewing boxes...oh well. I am sure I will find some again now that I have a use for them. I wonder how many I have passed up at garage sales and auctions over the years! My ds said he would help me make lids for them.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend! I am waiting for my heater to warm up the clubhouse and I am going to sew this afternoon...

Which permanent pens do you use to write on quilts??? I've never done that before so want to get something that is known to work! Thanks!

I have a set of the extra fine Sharpie markers ..... write on the fabric and then heat set with your iron. Some say they are not any good for this, but I tried it on some Mug Rugs and they've been washed lots, without pulling a disappearing act on me! :)

oksewglad 10-06-2012 12:15 PM

Oh that's too funny Jan:D:D:D
Thanks QE for tag teaming and answering all the questions. After I wrote everything I was wondering if I was giving TMI (too much information) in regards to life here on the farm--and of course you understand about the collapsing at the End of the Day! I usually don't have trouble sleeping!!
Yesterday DH and I drove to World Dairy Expo for the day. This is the premier dairy event in the world. A multitude of activities take place during the week. The cattle shows of major dairy breeds is the highlight, but there are youth judging contests, forage contests, livestock product booths, well this explains most of it:

http://www.worlddairyexpo.com/pages/...nformation.php

Met up with our daughter, who works in the dairy industry, for lunch. We had another "collapse at the end of the day".

QuiltE 10-06-2012 12:29 PM

And please do add more commentary ... you always have a way to say it better than I, plus I know there are some USA/Canada differences in what we do, how we do it and why? :)

Yea for your road trip to WDE. A good reward for you after the big push to get the earlage bagged. It was a highlight for us the few times we did manage to sneak away from the farm and take it in!

Do they still have the art show? I have had random thoughts of Miss Mazel taking a trip to Madison.

Sooooooooo now that you got away to WDE. How about a gad northwards to RAWF?
I'll be there EVERY day, so we could easily meet IRL! Oh how exciting and absolutely wonderful that would be!!!!!!!!!!

QuiltingNinaSue 10-06-2012 01:00 PM

CarrieM, "Which permanent pens do you use to write on quilts???" Mirco pens are number 1 and in a variety of color. Just got a Pentel Gel Roller for Fabric in black and seems to work well without fading or bleeding. There are Micro brush (point) pens and rolling tip pens and most quilt stores carry them or they can be ordered on internet.

JeanieG 10-06-2012 04:40 PM

I have a set of Pigma Micron Pens. They dry permanent, and are waterproof and fade-resistent. They work well too.

dublb 10-06-2012 05:12 PM

Oh I'm so excited about the bonus blocks. I love the idea o' signin' 'em! :) I'm thinkin' about usin' a Sharpie also. I hadn't decided what block I was gonna do yet. Now I have a direction ta look for.
I love hearin' about the farm life. I live in a midsize town. Kinda like the suburbs. (Something 15 min.s is far away.) My aunt lives in the country on 5 acres, (about 20 min.s away.) I love goin' ta help her ta plant the tomatoes & pick black-eyed peas. Nothin' was planted for the last 2 years because there was no rain.

janRN 10-06-2012 05:17 PM

Glad you ladies enjoyed my FART story. DGS is 19, soph at Penn State as are the 3 buddies he was with. I forgot to mention the clerk at Starbucks didn't charge me for my coffee--said we made her day!
I'm not getting a lot of practice on my HQ Sweet 16. It's easier than I thought it would be and so much fun. It's also the perfect size--takes up about as much room as a card table. I've been watching lots of Lea Day's videos and hope next week that I'll have more time to play (I mean practice). You have all been so supportive--I second guess myself about everything, especially a large purchase like this. I'll post a pic if I ever accomplish something worth showing.

dublb 10-06-2012 05:25 PM

Jan :D I just read your story ta my family. My #2 DSon is also 19 & he got such a kick outta your story. (He was my surprise baby.)

gardnergal970 10-06-2012 05:30 PM

Oksewglad...mentioning then World Dairy Expo brought back memories. What a great event to attend. Did you drive up and back the same day? That's a little bit of a haul when there is so much to do there.
Thanks for all the tips on the pens to use. I'll be looking for them.
QuiltE..what is RSWF and are you the miss Mazel that is thinking of going to Madison? When might that be? My daughter only lives about an hour thirty minutes south of there and I owe her a visit before the snow flies.
Carrie, your chocolate walk sounds fun. Maybe your youngest daughter is ready fir dance lessons.

& It's heavy! I didn't git the other Letters or the # at the end. It spells his Name & has his Football # at the other end o' the name. I actually got it done the year he graduated. :)

GGal ... It's actually RAWF = Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, more commonly referred to as The Royal! It's the premier livestock show in Canada. Many of those who show at Madison WDE, also show in Toronto at The Royal. We never showed at Madison, though did show both breeds at The Royal. All livestock will be shown (dairy, beef, goats, pigs, fowl and fancy feathers, sheep). Most of the ag commodities have displays to help educate and inform the general public. Not the trade expo that is at Madison, though extensive booths for the genetic companies. Then there's the vendors, which of course the true aggies loathe ... and the city people love! It's also well known for it's horse show most nights, including many of the Olympic and International riders. I particularly like to see the heavy horse hitches, different breeds every night.

I'll be disappearing again the first couple weeks of November as I'm working the whole show.

Miss Mazel is the cow that I made. So the trip mentioned was more so for her, not me! WDE used to have a dairy art show and I keep thinking how nice it would be to show her there, amidst cow things, instead of the way I have had to show her til now! If you missed out on seeing her before ... here she is ....

JeanieG 10-06-2012 09:55 PM

Oh QuiltE, you did a fantastic job on that cow. Amazing!

QuiltE 10-07-2012 04:11 AM

JeanieG ... Let's say, she became a true Labour of Love! Her namesake topped her class when shown ... and she's now brought home three red ribbons (firsts in Canada!)

JanRN ... Me-thinks that DGS strategized and was waiting for your grand arrival! Rotten kid, right ... but oh so "D"!!! Good news out of all that with your freebie from 'Bucks!

DublB ... nice job done with the extra touches to personalize

janRN 10-07-2012 04:33 AM

DublB I love that quilt--I've never tried a rag quilt before but it sure looks warm.

QE, how did I miss that cow before? That's awesome!

dublb 10-07-2012 11:15 AM

Thanks Ya'll!!!

mirabelle 10-07-2012 02:17 PM

Wow I stay off the computer for a day and look what I miss:D I spent the yesterday working on Pony Club Blocks and sewing some rows together. (sssshhh don't tell anyone)
I plan on piecing my backing fabric to incorporate my bonus blocks and would love everyone to sign my blocks.
I think we need to have a party at the end of our trail ride, I'll bring the marshmallows and cupcakes:thumbup:

QuiltingNinaSue 10-07-2012 02:57 PM

I will bring the turkey!! Or chicken...or roast pork....or mid west original farm raised beef!!

Love the rag quilt, Dublb. Great cow, QuiltE.

QuiltE 10-07-2012 03:12 PM

So y'all like Miss Mazel! :)

I will confess ... of all the things I have done, because of her uniqueness, I am probably the most proud of her! Yes, even more so than my FWS! Can you believe me saying that?

dublb 10-07-2012 03:53 PM

How fun. A party! Hmmm I love the virtual marshmallows.

gardnergal970 10-09-2012 05:03 AM

Well I'm sitting here drinking my morning coffee and since there are no new posts, I revisited some from before. Still as pretty as ever. We had frost in the pumpkin Sunday and Monday morning with cooler days. The sun is shining brightly now and the forecast is for 60+ weather. I didn't get outside but want to today. I've developed a cold that has settled in my chest and the outside air will do me good. I slept downstairs in the recliner from about 2:30 this morning so my coughing wouldn't wake my DH. It worked. He didn't even know I was gone until he woke up this morning. I have only 2 more blocks to do for PC and then I'll start the bonus blocks. I have so many ideas.....have a good day my friends!

QuiltingNinaSue 10-09-2012 06:40 AM

O, I wonder GG, how many subs did you do in the last 8 blocks of PC? If you are coughing a lot, do what was suggested on QB, rub vick's on the soles of your feet and put a pair of bobby socks on...coughing will stop within five minutes or less. It has worked with several of my friends and family, that I passed word onto after learning it here on QB. In the past, we rubbed it on our chest, never knew what it would do if we rubbed it on our feet!! Hope you get to feeling better soon.

gardnergal970 10-09-2012 11:49 AM

For the last 5 weeks I will have 4 subs. Thanks for the Vicks hint. I put some on right away and have been outside so I'm not sure what the results are but the test will be tonight when I go to bed.

QuiltingNinaSue 10-09-2012 01:20 PM

Forgot to say its when you go to bed at night, apply to soles of feet, cover with a pair of socks and go to bed.

Have designed 6 of last 8 blocks, have to sew them together yet...More eye candy to come tonight or in the morning, and I am looking forward to seeing everyone's blocks for the week. Getting colder here again; wonder if we see snow before Halloween?
