So glad to hear you were away from the flooding Honchey, trees will always regrow or you can plant more.

Here is the only photo of my Baltimore, there was a lot of three dimensional work, ruched roses, stuffed bluebells, such a lot of work. I will put it on the bed one day:o

So much going on here and at home so I have been trying to read, but haven't taken the time to reply...

I have already downloaded the free "compass" blocks and think it would be fun to do this as a group..yes 1 block every 2 weeks would definitely be manageable and give me time to work on other things without worrying about always trying to catch up!

On applique...I can't do much hand work (wrist issues), but someday would like to learn machine. I am currently working on a project doing raw edge applique...learned at the retreat Ggal and I attended in September.

I sewed a mini-charm square (2 1/2") on top of a regular charm and then cut in half. I am making a couple Christmas table runners. Not sure on the layout yet...this was when I just had half of the blocks done and I wanted a picture to send a friend showing her what I was working on. :)

carriem 11-17-2012 05:28 AM

Maribelle--that Baltimore quilt is very pretty.

mirabelle 11-17-2012 05:32 AM

Carriem I love your little blocks, so pretty

janRN 11-17-2012 05:34 AM

Mirab, that Baltimore is awesome!! I can't believe I'm quilting with people who have such talent--I'm a rookie! That must have taken a long time; there are so many details to look at. It's gorgeous.

Carriem, neat idea with the charm squares. What you have so far looks very good. I also don't appllique and would someday like to learn to do it by machine. Just not that into it yet. The only "applique" I do is when I sew my labels on.

I also downloaded the compass patterns--that's a really neat site with lots of ideas. I ordered 50 Paper Pieced Stars because I love stars and pp (thanks to yinz!) I'm open to any and all plans for our future ride.

QuiltE 11-17-2012 05:58 AM

Honchey ... Thank goodness for the no flooding for you! You were well prepared for the storm. Lucky for you that you had the wood stove and lots of wood. Looks like the wood pile will get re-stocked tomorrow too! :) Good thing you had that stash of fleece came in handy ... almost too funny!

MiraB
... Your Baltimore is indeed stunning!!!

hhmmmmmm ... the 3-D effects might be something we could do together?

What about the Compass Star Blocks as our regular thing, and then in between times teach each other different techniques? Like a Bonus! eg. the 3-Ds, dresden plates, maybe a little applique. New ideas/projects that come along and I'm sure there's lots more things that could be taught. We could take turns. I'm thinking do it within the regular threads, just the same as we "talk" about everything under the sun and then some, now!

Another thing we could do would be to set WIP/UFO goals for ourselves. Putting out there, gives some accountability and we would then push ourselves to get them done, as the group would "know" we did or did not. At least, that's a tactic that works for me!

OK ... I've blathered enough on this ... will keep quiet now!!

Anael 11-17-2012 08:22 AM

I like the UFO/WIP idea! I have so many projects and need to finish some of them! I keep telling myself to do that but I don't so this would really help.

Mirabelle, your Baltimore is so beautiful! How did you do the applique?

dublb 11-17-2012 09:52 AM

I went & downloaded those compasses so if we decided ta do 'em I got 'em. Actually if we don't do 'em tagether I think I'll do 'em anyway. :)

Honchey 11-17-2012 03:15 PM

I taught a class on a kaleidscope dresden plate a couple of years ago...It was alot of fun...These were appliqued to a square then sashed with triple stripe border and yo-yo cornerstones . What was fun about this was you don't know what each plate will look like until all 12 wdges are sewn together..there also was a single yo-yo at the center of each plate...I'll have to find some photos to show you...

mirabelle 11-17-2012 03:25 PM

Anael the blocks were all needleturn applique, it took me 10 years to complete those 9 blocks but I did work full time back then. The borders were added and I did quilt it just never took a photo.

I am so pleased everyone likes the Compass blocks and have downloaded them, I also like the idea of teaching each other different techniques. The idea of a wip/ufo is also great. Gee we could be sewing together for years:Dwith all the great ideas we are coming up with..

This is the new Penpal revolution:thumbup:

My latest finished quilt with gs (four years old) modelling how much he likes it:Simple red cars backed by blue trucks. We are royally entertained by him this weekend.

Last four turkeys are in the freezer tonight. DD and SIL will take three of them home tomorrow, along with some other 'stuff' .

dublb 11-17-2012 03:54 PM

Now, that's way too cute!

He's just too darned cute, QNSue .... bet you will have tears in your eyes as he leaves tomorrow.
How did your SIL make out "dressing" those birds?

QuiltingNinaSue 11-17-2012 05:13 PM

SIL helped dh outside with the 'head off' and picking off the feathers while I cleaned the inside out, setting the clean birds into clean water, although I was very tired on the fourth bird. Then SIL used the propane torch to burn the pin feathers off the birds and clean them up more. And the birds all fit into the freezer.

We celebrated with Pork roast, mashed potatoes, baked beans, and tossed salad for lunch. Baked brownies for afternoon snack. Tomorrow it will be Grandma's tenderloin and T-bone steak. In the morning, duck omelets with kale in the omelet. Duck is selling here for $2.45 a pound for Thanksgiving. So more ducks on the list for next year (maybe a White Campbell Walking Duck). Would love to try a Tur-Chi-Duc package, its a turkey, stuffed with a duck and a chicken and dressing.

gs loves to pose for his picture and is quick to snuggle into his new quilt:

oksewglad 11-17-2012 05:21 PM

Lots of chatter again. I like the WIP idea QE. I have soooo many to finish.
Another beauty from Down Under, mirabelle!
Nice blocks for you little Christmas runner, too, Carrie.
Now QNS, that's not just an ordinary red car. That's Lightning McQueen. 2 yo Sam loves LMcQ. He brought his car down last week ( I think he sleeps with it:shock:) and lost it here--have searched high and low. Thank goodness he has his small tractors for backup!
A very full day here. We scored our cows again today. Two new Excellents and 3 Ex 90 cows now scored 91, 91, and 92. The pair of 91's are maternal sisters out of a 90 pt dam. Doubly nice. Then after dinner had a wedding to go to--neighbor's daughter so a short trip to town.

Mirabelle - I love that wonderful quilt. Just breathtakin'. 10 years! Wow!
QNS - I love that your DGSon posed again just for us. :) All o' those turkeys in the freezer, nice!
OK - Glad your cows scored so well.
Here's what I did taday. (I just got an e-mail sayin' that she likes it. Now I'll make the rest.:) )

QuiltingNinaSue 11-17-2012 06:22 PM

Love Sunbonnet Sue, Dublb, and love the colors of it too. Oh, for a gd..... but its not to be here.
Yes, Mirabelle, I loved your Baltimore quilt...excellent job.

Honchey, good luck on your tree trimming to clean up the mess there.

OKsewGlad, the report should bring smiles to the family of a well earned score with the cows. Ok, the cars are special, the only car print our Wal Mart had...for the cost of a couple of yard of the red and couple of yards of blue, made a happy four year old. LA operator did not charge me for the quilting. I tried the 1 5/8 strip, and 1 3/8 strip sewed together for the binding and it was quick.

QuiltE 11-17-2012 07:08 PM

QNSue ... how special you are to "whip" up the quilt for your DGS! I'm sure he'll treasure it for a long time to come. sometimes the simplest things are all it takes.

DublB ... great fabric mix and glad that your friend likes what you are doing.

OKSGlad
... that's EXCELLENT news! And great too, that two are the same cow family. Was their Dam, Excellent too? I'm sure everyone is quite happy with this classification round!!!! :) Time to party and celebrate.

dublb 11-17-2012 08:14 PM

I did not make any choices in this quilt. (But isn't it lovely???) The Sue's were made & quilted by the lady's DM who died 10 years ago. I'm not gonna make any more blocks, just join 'em tagether. I'm even usein' the fabric that the lady's DM had for it. She had 32 blocks made & quilted. Lookin' at her notes she had planned ta make it 9 blocks x 7 blocks. I'm just gonna complete it w/what is there & make it 5x6. I'm thinkin' about makin' borders for it, (If the lady likes the idea.)

oksewglad 11-17-2012 08:54 PM

Slip on over to this thread and take a look. Minis, of course.

QE--I too went to look and WOW! What tiny pieces!!

janRN 11-18-2012 05:53 AM

So JanRN ... time to up the ante and do an OKSGlad style mini! :)
After all, don't you think your friends deserve to to see further development of your anal-ity? (word?:D)

Anael 11-18-2012 08:16 AM

Wow oksewglad, those are gorgeous and so tiny! I love the one with the tulips :D

oksewglad 11-18-2012 08:54 AM

Oh friends, you are so kind. I really like the mini challenge I have set for myself and then to be able to give them so they may help some family some day. I know the heartbreak of seeing friends with the disease, I can't imagine how it must be if it were family--so to you friends who have had to deal with it I hope this helps.

dublb 11-18-2012 08:58 AM

It's s comfortin' knowin' that AAQI is out there & then knowin' you make these quilts, Well that just warms my heart. Ya'll all know that my DMIL has this terrible disease, well her DSis is showin' signs o' it now. :(

Here's what I've been working on the last couple of days...

Table topper for my mom (giving to her Thanksgiving Day)...she re-did her kitchen in browns and gold.

My sisters (I have 3) and their families are all coming home this week for the holiday (2 live out of state and the other closer). I am making their little ones mini-pillowcases and giving them a travel pillow too. I watched my nephew (3yrs) Friday night so got his done while he was here. He was very excited when I pulled the Thomas fabric out of the bag and "helped" me w/pins when I was sewing.

I have two more to make...for my nieces (both 2yrs), the turtle one is for my other nephew 8 months.

I made a little bag with drawstring with the scraps since I don't need the whole WOF for the little pillows.

oksewglad 11-18-2012 02:29 PM

Carrie perfect for them to lay their little headies on when they are traveling. TtheTrain is 2 yo Sam's other obsession, oh and let's not forget the Toy Story gang either. Mom should love her TT. She will use it all year long.

mirabelle 11-18-2012 04:01 PM

QNS what a beautiful GS you have, lots of character in the photo
Oksewglad your minis are wonderful, great work you are doing
Carriem I love your table topper, I made one for my DD and she loves it, so easy to do, the little guy is cute too

QuiltingNinaSue 11-18-2012 04:12 PM

Carrie, neat job!! Cute boy. Yes, gs has the Thomas quilt, too. Beautiful TT. The house is so quiet with the DD, SIL and gs on the road going back home. I love OksewGlad's mini quilts; beautiful job. I feel so special to actually "own" one on her masterpieces.

QuiltingNinaSue 11-18-2012 04:20 PM

Thank you, Mirabelle. He has so much energy, and runs all over our little farm. Excellent SIL, so he has big shoes to follow and model himself after. Rick helped dh scald and pick the turkeys, came inside and helped clean up the birds; helped clean up the sinks Fixed my dishwasher latch this morning saving me service call of $65.00. Grilled 4 T-bone steaks for lunch...two was supposed to be for us, but dd apparently packed both packages of leftover steak and took it with them.;) Funny.

dublb 11-18-2012 04:52 PM

Carrie - That TT is elegant. Your DM is gonna love it! And aren't those pillows just perfect? Just too cute.

Everyone must be busy getting ready for the weekend. :)

I got some more sewing done today...got Mom's TT quilted and other 2 pillowcases done. Also made a runner out of the blocks I shared a while back...

dublb 11-19-2012 06:16 PM

Th'smornin my DM called ta tell me that she was callin' 911 'cause my DGM (age 92) was so weak she couldn't stand. They are runnin' tests & did rule out heart trouble. I stayed w/DM & DGM most of the day. I had flash backs ta the time DDad & DFIL were there & diein' at the same time, all day. DGM even had the same incompetent ER Dr. that DFIL had 3 times. :( I was a basket case when I come home tanight. DM called just a min ago ta say no new news & that she was goin' ta bed. I'd like ya'll ta pray for us. Thank ya so much.

carriem 11-19-2012 06:42 PM

Bev--you are all in my prayers. It is so hard not knowing... {{{HUGS}}}

QuiltingNinaSue 11-19-2012 07:19 PM

({[HUGS)}] Bec. May our prayers be answered for you in the morning...with good news.

Love your quilting work, Carrie.

Hey, I won another $10.00 certificate in the September FabHopShop..from Grandmother's Attic so I chose a 2013 quilt calendar with 13 quilts and patterns...

So what are we going to be doing after the extended blocks??

JeanieG 11-19-2012 09:39 PM

Carrie - that table runner is wonderful!

dublb - prayers coming your way for DGM!

janRN 11-20-2012 05:19 AM
