I cut the Santa cowboy fabric and should be in the mail by Monday.. now it's time to put the eye drops in again and then time to go to bed. I'm feeling okay when all the stuff I'm taking is working.. I know when it starts to wear off...this is the 4th time since last November that I've been sick with the same thing. I'm getting tired of this house guest!!! I want him gone...it has to be a him because I know a woman wouldn't do this to me. I managed to get a block done(easy/stripes) but I can't remember the name...for some reason I can't remember the names for these blocks or the weekly number that's associated with them. The first fws quilt-along blocks were easier for me to remember. I'm rambling...time to go..."nite. Honchey/Anne

I have just caught up on the chatter and I am smiling, love your thoughts on your male house guest, he needs kicking out now. I hope everyone is feeling better, with all the soup and good thoughts I am sure you will both be on your feet soon.

janRN 02-18-2012 05:25 AM

I think your houseguest has moved on to Western PA. Yep, miserable with sinusitis. Thank you all for sharing LOL!!

Oh they shared it all right .... with me too!!!!!!
Sinusitis? cold? whatever?
........... a sore throat, puffy eyes, one exploding head .... how'bout you
JanRN?
I don't think I'm going to get much done today
... and it probably won't be any sewing for what I do manage.
arrgggghhhh!!!!!!!!!!
:(

oksewglad 02-18-2012 07:34 AM

Oh you poor dears, maybe I'm the culprit as I started out with it the day after Christmas. (Knock on wood the second round has passed over me. You know the jet stream has kept real "winter" out of the Midwest!) Anyone buy Tang? Hot tea and Tang always helps the folks here.

dublb 02-18-2012 08:31 AM

Oh Ya'll I'm so sorry! I did not realize that it was spreading that far. Gargle w/salt water or Listerine to keep it out of your throat. Use salt water nasal spray, & I've started taking hot showers twice a day ta git this stuff out of my head. The Dr. said that Sinusitis starts out as a cold & brings a bacterial infection along. Double whammie! I hope ya'll can keep this couple out of your lives!

QuiltE 02-18-2012 09:43 AM

Oh I've already got it in my throat!
Just back from the grocery store with a bag of lemons to brew with tea ... and a new bottle of Vicks.
So today's going to be a day of a lot of water, tea with lemon, sniffing boiling water with Vicks ... and gargling salt water (ick!) ............... and some extra sleep.

Yea right ... drink plenty of fluids and stay in bed and sleep ... who are they trying to kid!

Good Night Kids .... and to think it's only 12:45!

JeanieG 02-18-2012 10:50 AM

Hey you all, my daughter in law swears that inhaling a few drops of Tea Tree Oil in boiling water stops her sinus infections cold! She read about it on the internet and tried it and it really worked for her. She inhales this over her stove a few times a day when she feels a sinus infection coming on and has not had to go the Dr. for antibiotics in over a year. She is real prone to sinus infections.

Hope you all are feeling better, and isn't it interesting that so many of you are sick right now. So Sorry!!!
:(

dublb 02-18-2012 10:58 AM

:(:(:( I'm so sorry! Lemon tea? that sounds like a good idea! I hope ya git some sleep. I haven't been able to!

:(

How did we spread it over the 'net?'

ArteEmCasa 02-18-2012 12:03 PM

dubld, Honchey, QuiltE and JanR,
I'm sorry all of you are sick. Sinus pain is not a good thing to feel. Antibiotics are necessary if there is a infection, and fever symptums. Sinus pain can also be allergic. Drink as much water as you can.
Here goes my receip:

GINGER AND CINNAMON TEA

Line the bottom of a saucepan with sugar.
Add slices of fresh ginger.
and Pieces of cinnamon sticks
Let the sugar melt and become brown
Add boiling water
Let cook until the sugar is completely released from the pan.
Place in a teapot.
Serve with a few drops of lemon or pure while hot

Please take care of yourselves.
This tea tates very well and helps to feel better

QuiltE 02-18-2012 01:49 PM

I tried to sleep ... and all I can say is that I rested ... up for a bit now.

ArtEC
... Oh that sweet tea sounds delectable ... I love spices, and now if only I had ht fresh ginger!

DublB
... Lemon Tea ... just make a strong black tea and then squeeze as much lemon juice into it as you can handle. Of course, you can sweeten it, but I just go for the pucker power!

How are you doing
Honchey and JanRN?

janRN 02-18-2012 02:51 PM

Thanks for all the advice and hope everyone else is doing better. My sinuses finally are draining so I hope I don't need an antibiotic (of course it's the weekend but could always call my boss-one of the perks of working for a doc). I think I need to try Arte's tea-yum.
My advice: don't try to paper piece when your nose keeps running!!

Honchey 02-18-2012 05:02 PM

All you Cowpokes are just jealous and can't stand not being included with us...Yeah!!!!

Seriously...I'm beginning to see the light...feeling a bit better...keeping hydrated...runny nose only once in awhile...eyes have much less puffiness...today I went out for a walk to the mail box to get some fresh air...I just made a scrambled egg concoction for dinner....scallions, sliced potatoes, chopped prociutto & shrimp sauteed then dumped a bowlful of eggs in the pan. My DH & DS said it was very good. I cannot deal with more than one pan right now.

I will try to do a block tomorrow or at least start it. My grandkids will be here tomorrow...they know not to come close to the sewing machine while I'm at it. They are so funny...a 3 and 6 yr old on their toes, stretching their necks 4 feet away from the machine asking me "whatcha doin' grandma" then I'll have them come closer when I stop to show them...too funny.

Try to feel better guys...Honchey/Anne

oksewglad 02-18-2012 05:21 PM

Thanks for the tea recipe ArteEm, sounds refreshing. Ginger is great for decreasing inflamation.
Aren't GK's special, Anne? Mine went to the other Gram's this weekend so kind of quiet (in a good way) around here. The little girls (3,6,and 8) have a play sewing machine they are making quilts at with bits of my odds and ends! Soon to the real machine for Em.

dublb 02-18-2012 05:37 PM

Art - That sounds wonderful. I'll have ta go figure a way ta do it with splenda. I don't think I can burn it like sugar. HMMMM It also sounds so soothing.

QuiltE - I had the lemons for the lemon tea, & I used ta make it, but had forgotten. Thanks for the reminder. I've had several cups today now.

I Love how we are all helping each other ta get through this.

Honchey - I'm so excited that you are feeling better! I can just picture your Grandkids , on tiptoe, waiting ta see!:D

gardnergal970 02-19-2012 05:55 AM

Hope you're all feeling better today. The sun is shining here and when I looked yesterday, the crocus are poking through. No flowers yet but let me send you a cyber bouquet in anticipation of good health and beautiful flowers.

QuiltE 02-19-2012 06:28 AM

Thanks for the sentiments flowers .... being a cyber bouquet, none of us can be allergic to them, can we?
They are so pretty as I love the spring flowers. So cheery and bright ... only sad part is that they never last all that long in the house.

This time of the year I often buy the potted bulbs. They don't last long either ... though a little longer than as cuts. And bonus, they can go into the garden later!

Moi? ... a little better today. I've now started sneezing and I think this will be the runny nose day. Yesterday I had no interest in anything, not even sewing ... though today, I might try to do some sewing. We'll see if my brain can focus on that or not? :)

JanRN, Honchey and DublB ... are you feeling progress today? We've GOT TO get better before Tuesday! :)

Honchey 02-20-2012 08:56 AM

Hi, I can't change the font or color or add any smileys or thumbs up to any posts and don't know where to go to get them back...Help Jeanie!

It seems my worst time of day is when I get up in the morning and it takes several hours to get all the junk out!

I will be heading in the direction of the sewing machine today hopefully to catch up on a block or two.

A warning::: One of next weeks blocks has 65 pieces in it. I had to count them 3 times..is this a record?

Now I have to check all the other posts...see you later. Honchey

QuiltE 02-20-2012 09:05 AM

**dropping off some smileys for Honchey!!**

:o:confused::thumbup:;):hunf::):thumbdown::D:(:mad ::p:shock::rolleyes::cool::eek:

Well aren't you just the bearer of good news .... 65 pieces will be easier in PC though, than the FWS! I'm still feeling almost awkward with the LARGE pieces and blocks of the PC! :)

How are you doing
Honchey? ... feeling any better?
Yesterday I felt like there was a light at the end of this sickness tunnel ... now today, I'm thinking the light is the freight train coming at me! :)

DublB and JanRN ... time to check with us!

JanRN
... I found the same as you did on Saturday ... not a good idea to PP along with the runny nose!

And soooooooooon it'll be Tuesday night for the next batch of eye candy!
(Not soon enough!) :)

LOL - I'm here but don't know if I can help. Maybe you just have to re log in to get the color and smileys back. They are along the top of my Quick Reply, and Go Advanced has them too. Maybe a email to Patrice will help. Anyone else with this problem, or know how to fix it???

Sorry you guys are still feeling poorly! It must be some bad bug going around. Get well soon!

dublb 02-20-2012 11:42 AM

Hey Ya'll, I too thought that I was feeling better yesterday evening, but I'm just as bad today as ever! I love your image of a freight train!
I also joined the Quilt Story BOM. (1 block a month, & 12 inches at that) I went ahead & ordered the book "501 Rotery Cut Blocks." I feel so bad that all I've done has been sitting around doing nothin.' I picked up this new book & got ta thinkin' about the PC blocks. I know that there are several blocks, like Clover, that don't fit with my 'Betsy Ross.' I spent several hours lookin' at both books & picked out 12 more blocks that don't work & the 12 blocks to replace 'em with.
I'm also on this computer much more than usual. Sat. I was surfing the net & found a lovely pannel from Marcus that is in their Quilts of Valor line. ( It was on clearance!) I ordered it to put in the center of my quilt! I guess it's gonna be a King size.
The only sewing I've done has been a little each day on my "6 hour" quilt. It's a baby - toddler quilt for my Apprentice. I haven't heard from her since she moved. :( I hope she' doing OK.
DH & DSon are also sick now.
Honchey, I don't remember what I did when the board first changed ta git those icons at the top of my quick reply box. I do remember that I went to Settings ta do it! I hope ya figure it out.

QuiltE 02-20-2012 11:53 AM

Honchey ... I remember seeing in another thread that you need to change the settings to WYSIWYG ... What You See Is What You Get.

DublB ... And you've had this longer than moi! YIKESSSS!!! Apprentice? I've done some mindless surfing while feeling all punk, and saw this one for you ....
http://www.quilterscache.com/F/FlagandHeartBlock.html

dublb 02-20-2012 01:08 PM

QuiltE, Thank you so much. It is perfect! I printed it up, & am picking out fabrics. I like it better than 'Margret's Choice t" that I was going ta use for 'Clover.'

dublb 02-20-2012 01:19 PM

For almost 3 yrs I've had a young lady come to my house 2 to 4 afternoons a week & taught her to sew. She takes longer to learn than most. (The home ech teacher at Midland High said that she would never learn to sew.) She always introduced me to others as her "Other Mother." I tried to get her to take some college classes. But the failure was more than she could take. When we took her to register (her DM, & I) the people at the college thought that her DM & I were 'partners.' They couldn't figure out why I was there. I was paying for her. This girl means a-lot to me. I called her my Apprentice 'cause I didn't know what else to call her. She is pregnant, & has moved to Austin to be close to her Fiance'. I'm so sad. She's been gone 2 weeks & I haven't heard from her. :(

PS She can sew!!!!!!

QuiltE 02-20-2012 01:45 PM

DublB ... What a nice story that you "adopted" her and helped her get a start with sewing. I hope that your not hearing from her, is just that she's been busy getting settled in her new place. Also, that all goes well for her in her "new" life with her fiance and coming baby. And now that means you're going to be a Granny! :)

When I saw that block, I figured, I'd better send it your way! I went thru all the blocks this afternoon and noticed a lot of "State" blocks. Hopefully, you can keep them, to fit with the USA theme. And perhaps look for the other State blocks for some of your fil-ins?

ArteEmCasa 02-20-2012 04:06 PM

Sick ones...oh please, get well soon!
dublb - love your story, hope soon you have news from your dear Apprentice. Your dedication allowed her to learn sewing. Small details are the ones that changes the world. Congratulations for being the person you are.

dublb 02-20-2012 04:48 PM

:o:o:oThank you.

Honchey 02-20-2012 07:29 PM

Let's see if this works!!!:thumbup::thumbup::D:D:D:p:p:p:p:p:p:p

Yes, It's working....It's really strange how I had to go to the basic thingy in order to send messages and now it's working like it used to with the click of a button. nice!! Thanks Jeannie

dublb 02-20-2012 07:45 PM

Hooray for Honchey!

QuiltE 02-20-2012 08:18 PM

Honchey ... looks like your'e back in business for tomorrow's threads!! :)
It seems so long since last Tuesday and our eye candy! :)

ArteEC ... little by little we're getting better! (I think and hope!!!)

dublb 02-20-2012 11:32 PM

I'm doing Birds Eye now! I feel better now & in the morning I won't. So I'm doing it now, then I can go to bed with a since of accomplishment. I'll post it in the morning.:)

gardnergal970 02-21-2012 05:35 AM

Haven't even looked as this weeks blocks. I went to a trunk show for notions at my LQS yesterday and saw some beautiful quilts and learned of a few slick tricks. Now if I can only remember them. Today is Fat Tuesday so the LQS has fat quarters on sale and I have a couple of quilts to start. (guess where i'll be) I just found out my granddaughter will get married in June and my oldest son will celebrate his 25th anniversary and get his master's degree then too. He's the kid that could never get his homework done because he was reading a book. I had started a FW quilt for him but his wife likes to change things around regularly so I changed my mind and decided a nice D9 would be the answer. If it's never used or given away, it won't be near as hard for me to live with than if it were the FW. I might just keep that one for me when I get it done. I'll be later in the week for my blocks but can't wait until tomorrow to see what the rest of you have been rustling up.

Honchey 02-21-2012 06:20 AM

Have my fabrics pinned and ready to go to the machine...I have to go to the Dr. today...I can't deal with this anymore...been over a week and I'm physicaly drained...it's invading my throat and bronchial area. couldn't talk this morning..some damn frog got in there..don't remember being near any lily ponds.
In reference to the cows...would it be cow pies? I googled the phrase and nothing came close....I want the prize for effort!!!!!

QuiltE 02-21-2012 03:36 PM

*giggles*
Nope ... not cow pies! Oh that'd be funny "scoring cow pies"!

Oh dear
Honchey ... I hope the Dr was able to give that frog and cold the knock out punch it needed!

GGAl ... Looks like you're going to be busy getting ready for LOTS of family events. You have your DSs gift figured out ... and I'm sure there'll be a quilt for DGD to be made?

dublb 02-21-2012 05:19 PM

Hey Ya'll
I'm getting better, but very slowly. I start feeling better in the evening, but after I wake up in the morning I feel bad again.
My apprentice did call! The only sewing she has done is a pretty stitches around some baby blankets. I gave her 7 pieces of fabric 1 1/4 yrd. each. Squared & hems pressed down. Most of her sewing equipment & projects will be taken to her in a few months.
Honchey - Do you need a frog-ectomy? :D I do!
GG - Your life is full right now. Boy are ya gonna be busy. I don't blame you for not giving that FWS to your DSon if it might be tossed later. Something simple is a great idea. You'll get to see everyones blocks at once. No waiting.:)
Art - My DDIL went to Brazil for 6 months a few years ago. (Before she met DS.) She loves everything about Brazil.
OK - How did your guild meeting go?
