Hi Fellow Quilters, This week marks a milestone for our group--We have made it to the halfway mark---Hip Hip Hooray!!!
On another note, many of you know about Muriel's mishaps and there a a bunch of us that would like to do something for Muriel to help lift her spirits so she can get better sooner. Some of you may have sent cards and some would like to do more. We don't want to go overboard so I'm suggesting a 9" block of your choosing. She will be having alot of physical therapy after she heals so I don't think blocks smaller than the 9" would be a good idea. Muriel loves the color purple--not lavender--deep intense Jewel tone colors- ie: ruby red, sapphire blue, kelly green etc. Any suggestions on how to coordinate our efforts would be greatly appreciated. We do need to keep this in the Discussion thread. I will make note of it in the Photo page to please keep any discussion in this thread. Anne

I think this is a very good idea. As you know I sure have plenty of purple fabrics and would be willing to make one or more blocks for her.

QuiltingNinaSue 02-09-2011 06:21 AM

Me, too. Just let me know the details when they are decided.

rwquilts 02-09-2011 07:18 AM

I'm so sorry, but I haven't had time to really read a lot here, although I try and see all the blocks and make comments...what has happened with Muriel?

Both arms from the hand to elbow are in casts from a fall and ? I'm not sure from what else. two separate incidents. A few more weeks in the casts and then therapy. A

rwquilts 02-09-2011 08:52 AM

Oh my goodness! That must be so awful! I will be happy to make a 9" block...send it to you, or Muriel? Theme? I saw you have jewel tones, with dark purple...can we use a pattern from our 111 blocks here? LOL! In my EQ, I can change the size and make a 6 1/2" into a 9 1/2"...do you want to assign specifics or let it just be ramdom?

janRN 02-09-2011 08:58 AM

I can sew , still not supposed to type. Post details and I'll be happy to do a block.

deranged_damsel 02-09-2011 03:59 PM

Hi, all. This isn't particularly related to this week's blocks, but thought I'd point you to Laurie Hird's blog for an update on her upcoming book, "Farmer's Wife Pony Club Quilt." She's doing a giveaway of seven first editions which you have to sign up for. I'd provide a link, but Admin says it's a no-no because entering for the giveaway asks you to provide first name/last initial and your general location. If you're interested, go to her web site and sign up. I did and got a personal response from Laurie in which she says she remembers when we started our FWS journey last August. She sent her congratulations and said to say "hi" to all of us doing this quilt.

Jagsd3 02-11-2011 08:34 AM

I would definetly be interested in doing a block or blocks, please post details when available.

deranged_damsel 02-12-2011 01:55 PM

Hi D D, I honestly think that any block or fabric we put together will be appreciated and loved...and yes we will be doing a block of your choice from the FWS Quilt_Along--It's up to you if you want to send one or two. They should be squared and pressed The only thing I ask is that all the blocks have to be the same size and the more I think about it if we just follow the patterns at 6-1/2" there won't be a problem. We need to have a deadline for the completion of the blocks to be sent. Those of you that would like to participate need to get Muriels address by PMing me for it. We will be sending them to her directly with a note or a card. I'm thinking the end of this month for the deadline and all blocks to be sent by the end of the first week in March.... March 5th to be exact. We all need to know what blocks are being made so there are no duplicates--hopefully---so if you're joining in this please post the blocks your making In This Thread. I can't think of anything else. If anyone has a better suggestion---Speak Up! What do you think about posting a photo of the blocks being made for Muriel in this thread so we can all see whick ones they are? Let me know. Anne

deranged_damsel 02-12-2011 06:30 PM

awesome Anne :D
I am thinking of doing Hovering birds, and Prairie Queen. I need to pre wash my fabric :D Just let us know what size we should do.

Honchey 02-12-2011 08:17 PM

Hi Everyone, A decision has been made for those of us who will be participating in making some blocks for Muriel.
The block (s) will be from the current Line we are presently working on and the size will be the same. Muriel Loves purple and deep intense jewel tone colors. The blocks will be sent directly to Muriel with a card or note. Blocks should be squared up and pressed and sent by the 5th of March. That gives us 3 weeks to get them done.
Post photos of the block on this thread. Post any questions on this thread. PM me for her address only. I think I covered everything--If any of you can think of anything else please let me know. Anne

janRN 02-13-2011 07:16 AM

I'd like to do block #72 Railroad and block #58 Mother's Dream if those are okay. I had to pick less complicated blocks because I'm working extra hours the next 3 wks. Is this okay with everyone?
Peace-Jan

QuiltingNinaSue 02-13-2011 07:39 AM

I am retired, and have some extra blocks done so I can send #1: Attic windows; #2 Autumn tints; #23 country life recreated; #31 evening star; #34 Flock recreated; #39; #40 and #41; #46; #47. Others if needed. QNS

Honchey 02-13-2011 08:39 AM

Hi JanRN, Yes, most definitely. Not a problem. I'm going to make a personal list of the blocks being done, Hopefully no repeats. Anne

I have also the numbers 1,23,31,34,39,47,54, 67, 73 (done), 74 ready to do. Putting finished blocks with school paste stick pasting their outline in a clear pocket holder that fits into a notebook...ready to ship.

janRN 02-13-2011 09:49 AM

QNS your fabrics never cease to amaze me!! I love how you relate your fabric choices to the name of the block. And your work is beautiful. You are a busy and generous lady!

QuiltingNinaSue 02-13-2011 10:19 AM

I feel so bless, JanRN, to have found this loving, caring, and sharing QB. I am retired and have one good eye; left eye blew an optic nerve in 1999. It has never stopped me from driving or quilting...its always been a family motto "to pass an act of kindness on" as quietly as we can.

I am a self-taught quilter with some bad habits like loving to press my work with a hot steam iron that makes the square go wonky. This QB has helped to answer questions I have never ask, but have learned a lot. And this experience of the Fwsq has taught me a great deal. I love it and truly feel like I could adopt any of the blocks I have seen in this project...beautiful work.

If these numbers I have given is a favorite of yours you would like to make and give the block, I will pull that block and yield to another quilter. With 111 blocks there are many to choose from...that is a lot of fun.

Hi Honchey
I would love to send a block to Muriel from Australia. This sew along has been great and for me to keep up has also been amazing.
I hope to set my machine back up by the weekend. Just a quick look through my book and I think I might make Block 40 Friendship Block.
I will PM you for her address when I have my block made.

sew cornie 02-15-2011 05:11 PM

I would love to make a block for Muriel. I'd been thinking of her recently as I hadn't seen her post in a long time, but I was unaware of her troubles. I'm still quite far behind in the FMSQ, but if it weren't for Muriel's encouragement, I never would have started it to begin with. I have plenty of jewel toned fabrics including deep purple. As a former Alaskan myself, I'd like to send her

#61 "Northern Lights".

They're always a favorite sight to see for Alaskans. I hope she likes it.

Honchey, I'll PM you for her address.

JanRN, I'm sure she's going to love the blocks. I really wouldn't be concerned about fabrics/colors---she will feel all the love and concern for her in them---I know I would!!! Anne

The block is beautiful--I wouldn't be concerned about duplicate blocks. With all the fabric and colors in this world there's no way they would look alike. Thanks for participating. I can just picture Muriel (oops) Dan opening all the cards and seeing the wonderful blocks !
