Nice blocks, Anne. It took me a few seconds to find your pink triangle boo-boo. Here are mine (using the one & only small piece of blue sky fabric that I had):

Weezie, I love your windmill...Why didn't I think of that!!! I'll be totally honest...I'm getting tired of trying to figure out what I'm going to use for the next and the next and the next, I'm glad were near the end.....

Thank you. The small square of sky fabric was part of some random pre-cut blocks from Keepsake Quilting and I couldn't imagine what in the world I would use it for, it being so small ... so I was really pleased when I first saw the windmill block.

I totally "get" how it becomes increasingly difficult to come up with fabric combinations. As it turned out for me, that was a minor thing compared to laying out all the blocks for the quilt in a pleasing combination. I'm now finished, though, thank goodness. I saw your partial layout in the sashing/border/binding thread and I think it will be fabulous looking.

Hello All ... and now I join you with all the"almost finished" sighs of relief! Lots of work ahead though, with the sashing, etc. Here's mine ... #107 -- Windblown Square ... I wanted to make sure it was different than the Whirlpool, so switched things up a bit with an extra fabricand#108 -- Windmill ... no blue sky for mine! I think this Windmill has a Canadian forest in autumn behind it. For some Canadiana for you, we have have many of the modern wind turbines, in "forests" of their own, dotting across the country. Many not far from where I am.And yes, you have probably noted that the background for the Windmill is the same as my Setting Triangles. I wanted to use some of it in the quilt. So when placing it, I'll be keeping it well away from the edges of the quilt to avoid the setting triangles.

Amazing blocks! I love the colors in windblown square. Thanks for the informational comments about Canandian windmills! Great job!

oksewglad 01-22-2012 12:04 AM

Oh fantastic blocks; the sky fabric was just perfect, Jan. Now you know why you kept it! I envy you as you have are winding down your adventure. QE, just marvelous blocks. Like you we have the prairie giants whisping in the wind just to the west of us in flat land. (Our farm is just at the very edge of the Driftless area where the last glacier didn't scour all the rocks away.) The long arms are much like the windmill blades of the block.
I am currently working on another windmill "block" in my doll quilt for the DQ swap. Certainly not as structured as these as I'm taking a plunge into "liberated" piecing. AKA not caring if anything matches up!!

Finally getting busy - tho a couple years after the fact. Lots of traveling this past year, a downsize, & an out of state move. Starting to settle into a new chapter in my life.
