I would prefer both.

Week 6.1

Looks like block and top have the edge. I'll be posting several times this evening to get everything put up. Just the block for now, so the people who want to wait/catch up can tune in next week! 😋

OK, we’ve got this collection of 3 1/2 inch blocks, so what are we going to do with them? Not what you think, probably!

This is it. You will be making 24 9-inch blocks for a 4-block by 6-block lap quilt. I told you it was weird! When I found it in 5500 Quilt Block Designs, I wondered why it was arranged and colored asymmetrically. It’s called The Queen’s Petticoat.

The second picture is the block exploded, so you can see what component goes where.

Post 6.1 - Very clever block. I would never, never have guessed that this is what we would end up with. Tomorrow will be block creation day! Thanks, Iceleopard!

And this is why this block is asymmetrical. Look what happens when you rotate the blocks!

And here it is with fabrics 1 and 4 reversed.

Yeh. I like it too. Just finishing the back for another quilt. Than I'll get that one together. This thread reminds me.

Jeanine 11-17-2020 06:37 PM

How wonderful! I have cut out weeks 1 to 4 and ran out of my light fabric. I will have to think about what I'll do for week 5's light fabric. Maybe I'll have time to actually sew them together. Depends on life.

petthefabric 11-18-2020 02:49 PM

For wk 5 I used the second fabric & dark. Looks good.
Got 23/24 blocks made. Finish this and take a nap.
Still can't post picture, computer won't process pictures.

Thank you IceLeopard for another great mystery! This is an interesting block and I really like the quilt. I appreciate the time and effort you have put into your "Insanity quilts". I have saved your clues and will make this once I clear a few other projects off my plate.

Queenbarbiej 11-19-2020 06:01 AM

I have the tan/brown/yellow one sewn together and sandwiched. Ready to be quilted. I will get the green on done next week since I have it off. Yummy turkey day!

rilene 11-19-2020 07:53 AM

I just discovered this thread. What a great quilt!
Maybe next year ...

Queenbarbiej 11-19-2020 08:42 AM

Rilene you can still make it. I would love to see what you come up with.

I think I will be running another in January.

WMUTeach 11-22-2020 05:54 PM

Whoo- Hoo another mystery for January!. That will help take away the guilt of not joining in the BH Mystery. Yes, I am embarrassed to say that I am not joining in the riotous fun but I really am not a fan of small piece quilts. I have done a good number of her early quilts but I am missing the magic in my brain to use those tiny pieces she does so well.

I have been slowly putting together my blocks for this mystery between finishing other projects. Liking the results and when I get a little further into making blocks will post a photo. Perhaps later this week, after the turkey and pie settle. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/boy.gif Enjoy your feast no matter who you are celebrating with and even if it is alone. We can still be thankful for all we have!.

Ice leopard...please help me ... okbecause I'm doing scrappy what size block of #4 Will I need for week 5 My brains not functioning today..it's too hot

Battle Axe 11-23-2020 04:02 AM

Thanks, IceLeopard, for this mystery. I'm with WMUTeach in not feeling quilty about not joining BH this year. I just discovered this thread this a.m. when I was told that my sis-in-law was hauled away vomiting blood in the night. I will need some other focus. The only fabric I will have to hunt for is the gold and I'm sure it's here. Looks very South West. Something a designer whose name I can't come up with right now......phillips ???

Those blocks need to finish at 2 inches. I use the "slightly too big and trim down to size" method, so I cut the squares at 3 inches. You can use whatever method you prefer, of course.

m-fay 11-23-2020 03:39 PM

Thank you ice.

SusieQOH 11-23-2020 06:03 PM

Darn! I just saw this thread. I'm in for the next one!

Here are pictures of my two quilts. The brown one I messed up a couple of blocks. I left them. The green one I'm trying out border ideas.

m-fay 11-23-2020 11:14 PM

They both look beautiful queenbarbie

IceLeopard 11-27-2020 05:09 PM

Great quilts, Queenbarbie! I especially like the green one.

My Mystery all put together, I will bind it with Burgandy.

WMUTeach 11-30-2020 06:18 PM

Very Nice, m-fay. How clever of you to have your bed covering match you quilt colors. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/wink.png I will do my best to post a photo tomorrow of my finished blocks. Haven't made the side pieces but it is on the list of "to dos". Time just keeps flying away.

IceLeopard 12-02-2020 11:59 AM

Really nice, m-fy. I love scrappy quilts! Why use 4 fabrics when you can use 14? And if you run out of one fabric, just use another and no one will ever know!

Blueridgebeverly 12-30-2020 08:33 AM

I’ve checked in now and then and really appreciate all your hard work and creative energy, IceLeopard!
The quilt looks great.
