This week isn't too hard. I-13 and H12 are just straight forward applique or paper piecing (or rotary cutting/piecing).

H6 was a little trickier, but not hard. I cut out the circle templates from freezer paper and ironed to the fabric. I rotary cut the pieces for the 9 patch, then inserted the "arcs" on freezer paper into the seams before sewing them together. When I finished that part, I just sewed the arcs down by hand.

LS8 I don't really like how my little applique pieces turned out and might redo them. I paper pieced what I could and built it from the bottom to avoid as many "y" seams as possible. Then I appliqued the little pieces. I should have back basted them and then they might not be crooked.

But..here they are none the less.....have fun!

Wow, looks complicated!

luvmortherest 10-23-2010 05:51 PM

beautiful.

i think i might try starching my applique pieces then gluing them down before stitching. wish me luck

sandpat 10-23-2010 06:52 PM

luv, I generally use freezer paper inside, then wet the seam allowance with starch to make a crisp seam and iron it under. I still struggle with the points though and I need to either pin better when I am placing them on the block, or I need to stick them on there with the glue stick pen.

But yes...good luck to you!

Week 43 :D

I just realized, Patti, when I looked at your pics, I forgot the tiny triangles on LS-8, so I will add those!

I pieced H-6, what fun! I have a couple pics while I was sewing that one, for anyone interested as I know curves are not generally a favorite. I am more visual, its easier for me, to see a technique, than to read directions...

Those are lovely Meridith! I've tried and tried and I just can't sew those little curves like that. They don't seem to lay flat- I always have some little weird spot. I pin...alot more than 3..and I sew very slowly...maybe thats my problem..

Three pins are plenty, for these tiny curves. Snip the curve to add the fullness, the two most important pins are the edges, they need to line up exactly! Then, sew with the fuller side down (my pinned piece pictured, the white was down) because the machine will take up some of the fullness, it may feel like you are sewing blind, but I do shift/pull the bottom fabric slightly to help it stay smooth as I stitch. Look again closely at the pic as it is smooth along the seam line. Not all 12 of those curves are perfect either, one of the curves is a little wonky, and I did have one little pucker, I ironed out! But I'm happy with it, it is done!

sandpat 10-24-2010 03:38 PM

I'd be happy with yours too...I don't see anything wrong with them. I'll have to try machine sewing the curves again sometime. I get frustrated when it takes me a long time.

I've got an extra in there that was accually done in week 7 or 8. Already had the picture taken before I realized it.

Butterflyspain 10-25-2010 09:17 PM

I am still plodding Patti, not ready for this week yet. Stopped for a while because I had company but will get back to it.
Sewing Club day today, so no blocks today but will get back to it tomorrow.

Jan, those are so pretty! Your blocks and tri pieces always line up so nicely. I need to learn your secret to that part. Even after all of these little blocks...my applique pieces end up "close", but not necessarily "exactly" where I want them. Yours are always perfect...:green:

OK Elle...we'll be excited to hear what you find at your club meeting today.

wilhelmina 10-26-2010 06:33 AM

Thanks Patti & Elle!

Jan, love your colors, as always, they look perfect in their construction! :D

QuiltswithConvicts 10-26-2010 07:04 AM

I love seeing all of your blocks - they are all so beautiful. I don't think most peoplecan truly appreciate these little gems as they don't understand how it is to work with all those "short seams."

Elle, you'll get back in the swing - you need to recover from the company!

Butterflyspain 10-26-2010 07:16 AM

Patti, got some nice things to show you. will post later and let you know what the heading is.
Elle

Butterflyspain 10-26-2010 07:17 AM

Funny you should say this, but I tidied up so much before the company came, I now have a job to find anything, oh I am so untidy, but when I am I know exactly where everything is, now, well its anyones guess where everything is. I will get back in the swing again though

Janstar 10-26-2010 12:34 PM

Thank you ladies and I think all of yours are beautiful! Really like your color combos Pat and Wil!!

Janstar 12-09-2010 08:29 PM

Your asian fabric is so pretty Elle! It's going to be spectacular all put together!! Lovely blocks!!

Butterflyspain 12-09-2010 11:45 PM

Thanks everyone for your lovely comments, Keeps me going you know.

Have done one block of week 44 and all the rest are cut out ready to go think I may have probs on one of them but it could get appliqued its always a good trick and it looks the same . sometimes on these really difficult ones the applique comes out better. I know I have 4 way back that proved really difficult for me so they are going to get that treatment as well.

How is everyone doing. I know Patti is finished except perhaps for the Tris, Janstar how you doing, Meredith I knowyou have done week 46 all of you are you all waiting on slow coach ME

Elle

sandpat 12-10-2010 05:57 AM

We'll wait for you though Elle! I have all the tris done..I just lack those 3 kites still. I can't do the one until I know exactly how many pieces I'll have in total..(good excuse ) I just haven't gotten to the others yet.

Butterflyspain 12-10-2010 07:27 AM

Thanks Patti, got 3 done for week 44, so can possibly finish it tonight with a bit of luck, gosh I am motoring on this lot now
