Hi,
Im new to the board and this is my first BOM here (my Quilting Guild also does BOMs). I'm also a novice quilter, so I found the Housewife block to be pretty challenging. I still find small HSTs difficult to get evenly-sized. It was going together well until I got to the last stage, putting the top and bottom strip on, at which point I realised I had gone wrong with the width somewhere - oh well I'm posting my picture anyway, so that I won't be too embarrassed to post it later, after I've seen everyone else's (with better matching points, I'm sure!) I'm working on a sampler quilt in these colours, using the BOMs from here and from my Quilt Guild, and test blocks from any block swap I join. The bright blue batik and the pale blue blender are my main colours, and I'm also using a couple of other fabrics as accents. Looking forward to seeing everyone else's! Jan |
WOW ! great job and love the colors

Lovely in batiks! You did a great job! I'm inspired!

I'm a batik fiend, so I LOVE your choice of fabrics. It looks like you've done a wonderful job on your points!

Oops, accidentally posted this on the other June BOM thread. Anyway, I did the paper pieced 'Random Orbit' pattern. It's not perfect by all means, but I like it from a distance at least.

That's really nice! I particularly like the yellow fabric in the mix. I want to learn to paper-piece someday, but I have all these quilts to finish first!

You've done a beautiful job on this block. :) Hope mine comes out just as nice. :)

I give you credit for doing a BOM!!! I've been too afraid to get into one!! (I'm here looking at all the pretty pictures, trying to muster up the courage!)
Your points will get better w/ practice. Mine are finally starting to be pretty crisp (but they still have a little ways to go). |
Absolutely gorgeous!
|
Welcome, Jan: So glad you joined us and I know you will learn lots and teach us lots as that's what happens on this board.
Your block is lovely and I have been told only GOD is perfect the rest of us just have to strive for near perfection . There is nothing wrong with your block, it looks wonderful and thanks for sharing. |
I use mostly batiks and love that you used a white on white with them. The colors really pop.

I don't normally do piecing--I am not careful enough, I guess, in my cutting. They never seem to come out correctly. but yours is so pretty! I am almost temoted to try again. LOL The colors are great--I would use similar colors if I ever tried it. I am not sure that "nivice" would describe your results!
|
What beautiful fabrics! I look forward to seeing pics of your future blocks in these - and maybe even the completed top. I'm inspired to head to the batik section ASAP! :)

Just wanted to tell you that I didn't see your "problem" with the matching points. I had to look for them. After I found what you were referring to, I realized that I didn't see it as a problem. I liked the way the center square floated. I'd say keep it that way. I like it!

Jan,
I am working on my very first and very small quilt. It can be frustrating when things don't look just like you pictured them in your mind. I think your block is beautiful! I love the colors and the design looks very difficult. Remember as you go, practice makes perfect. Nancy :) |
