Wow. Silly me when I looked at others block, I realize I had added cornea to wrong sides, no wonder block was too small.... Funny how sometimes things just do not click the first time around. Maybe I will redo...just to prove to myself that I can. Lol

I like the change you made, you kind of turned it on point, looks great! I'm glad the pattern helped.

Judy...........I really love the look of your Double Aster block with the cornea turned in a different direction. Your fabric's & color's all go together so nicely & play well together. If you decide to make another block be sure to share it with all of us too, as we love to see pictures!! Good Job!!

Diana.............Your block is awesome too. I love the black background, it really sets off the pink & white fabric's that you have used in making your block. Are you using the same color scheme in all of your 2013 BOM block's? All of the pretty blocks shown so far, are going to make gorgeous quilt's by the end of the year. I can hardly wait to see all of the combinations together. Now we wait until the May block comes out!!
:D :D :D :D

CAS49OR 04-12-2013 03:59 PM

Cathy I love your block. I like the contrast between the dark and light colors! The background brings out the small amount of similar colors in the aster perfectly!

I made this twice and it turned out 11.25" both times, but the second time I did get the center to fit in.

I'll make a mug rug of the other. I like the colors better in this one for my quilt.

Did I attach my sections wrong? Is that why it was small? I added more background fabric to it so it would be the same size as the last three blocks.

CAS49OR 04-12-2013 04:17 PM

Judy, your block is very pretty, and thanks to you I now know why mine was too small. I did the same thing. I used the same fix as you. I'm still having a hard time visualizing where I should have attached the small square, but I'm happy I won't go nutty trying to figure out how my block could be so much smaller!

Dedemac 04-12-2013 04:28 PM

Sorry, I should have indicated on the paper piece where the large triangles should have been sewn. But I love the new look. Cas, I love your colors.

CAS49OR 04-12-2013 05:32 PM

Thanks Dede!

Judy, our blocks are not sewn wrong. We just need to remove the extra frame, turn them so the center looks like a diamond and sew the corners on. I un-did my first one to see how I should have attached the sections and just could NOT figure it out, then held it up to one on the screen and realized it was right! So it's laying there in the right order now, ready to re-sew. The bright side is I changed the color of the center so it pops more.

Its off some,I may make another, I had problems with the way the triangle went.

judy363905 04-14-2013 11:01 AM

Roma, Great colors..nice fabric choices... You might want to just replace the corner triangles... I did a lot of ripping this am and cut 6 in blocks and the triangles worked great - easy to square up to 12-1/2"

Good Morning, after ripping the borders and wrong corners, and replacing the correct corners this is the result.. I did look a point or two, but overall I learned a lot with this month's block :)

Dedemac 04-14-2013 11:59 AM

Nice blocks. Roma, I agree with Judy if you are not happy, it just looks like if you replace the final corner triangles it will be perfect. Mine seamed a wee bit small I should have cut the squares larger I still might. Love every ones fabric choices.

SulaBug 04-14-2013 10:29 PM

Very nice work Roma & Judy. Your blocks look perfect & you have both done such a great job choosing fabric's & color's that go together so well. Thank you so much for sharing with all of us today, as you know how much we love Show & Tell!!

I finished my block the other day, took my pictures, then forgot to post them. So here is my April block along with the first three months. This was a challenge. not the y seam, but all those different triangle sizes. I admit, I had to start it over. The first block was way off. Didn't even finish it. But this block did turn out 12 1/2". Ready for next months. Katie

I finished my block today. I had to make a few adjustments, but other than the outside border it came out pretty well. Thanks to everyone for the information that helped me put it together. I even did the y seam the first time. I see a little bulge, but hey you guys keep saying others won't see it anyway. (Except quilters, of course).

Ladies............You have posted so much "Eye Candy" that I can hardly believe my own eye's!! :D All of these blocks are so pretty & what great work everyone is doing too. All of the color & fabric combinations are terrific. I can just imagine all of the beautiful quilts that we will have at the end of the year. We will need to have a quilt party of Show & Tell. Keep up the good work.
:D :D :D :D

SandyinZ4 04-19-2013 06:28 AM

I feel so bad having signed up for this BOM and then not getting started on it. But I still have 8 months to catch up. On the few hot summer days that we will have, I will stay inside where it is cool and make a block a day! Love all the pictures. In a way, I am glad I was behind because I really like the idea of only using a few of the same colors for each one. That way they will all coordinate in a quilt. :-) I will keep watching for now.

CAS49OR 04-19-2013 10:28 AM

Wow Marybeth, I love your B & W blocks, very striking!

I fixed the block I showed you earlier by removing the borders I had added to size it up to 12.5" I added the corners -- in the right place, It took several tries until I remembered your tip to use larger HSTs to start with Dede, thank you for your help! I welcome any help anyone can give me with these BOTMs. I'm fairly new to quilting and have only made one quilt on my own that didn't start in a class. You can't offend me by suggesting where I may be messing up. For example, if anyone thought my block maybe was too small because I didn't turn it the right way or added the corners wrong, please tell me and I will appreciate it.

It ended up 12.25" compared to the rest of them which are 12.5" I'll have to figure out how to make them fit later.

I made a Mug Rug with the original block I had struggled with so long. I did get the square in the center to lay flat but I had to trim it down.

I used a lot of the scraps I had left from paper-piecing several blocks to make the back of it:

Dedemac 04-19-2013 10:55 AM

Cas,

The block looks great! As for the slightly smaller size don't worry until you start to stick everything together. Your printer might have sized them slightly smaller. If we have more paper pieces you may have a few that are the same size. That is how I usually get at least one row. Sashing is great for concealing oops.

CajunBear 04-19-2013 11:13 AM

All the blocks are wonderful, color and fabric combinations are just the best.

Can't wait until May, who is deciding May...we need a hint or two.

Hugs,
Cajun

My April block. Mine came out exactly 12 inches, so mine got a frame also. Oh well, it works.

My blocks so far.

My BOM storage box. Got this at Walmart at Christmas for $6 I think. It's for storing ornaments. Works great for my BOM. The fabric goes in one part, and 12 inch blocks lay flat in the other. Everything stays together and is easy to grab. I'll definately pick up a couple more this Christmas.

WOW!! :D Your Double Aster block turned out really nice & I like the added border around it. It really sets it off nicely. You sure got a good bargain on the ornament keeper for your fabric's & completed blocks for the BOM 2013 project, or any year as far as that goes. All four of your blocks look so nice together. Keep up the good work. Before we know it, it will be time to see the BOM for May, I can hardly wait!!

Wasn't looking forward to trying this block, but managed to finish it this afternoon..... not perfect...but who is? I actually had to turn the radio off so that I could concentrate on the placement of the pieces.... my colours are following me throughout the year.

Great Block everyone,

Feathers-n-fur the first picture is day-glow love it! I know camera do strange things but the four of them look great.

Thimblebug6000 yours make me think of hugs and kisses, very comforting.

This one was definitely a challenge for me but that what we are supose to be doing, streching ourselves. Remember its only fabric, if I mess up its a excuse to buy more!

Difergie 04-24-2013 04:35 AM

Love seeing everyone's color schemes! The blocks look loverl. Can't wait for the next one!
