A wonderful idea for sure Would like to see it when it is done
I've never seen baby bibs but I did seen one where they used the baby's most precious outfits on different blocks. They even included the socks. don't remember where I saw it though.
I just finished one. I used 24' blocks and put the bibs on the block & sewed just on the inside of the bib binding. Sometimes I did straight stitching and sometimes decorative stitching. I used variegated thread on top. I used a muslin base and you do not want a heavy batting as the bibs are heavy to begin with. If I did it again I would use flannel as my batting. Live and learn. I used muslin base and stitched everything to warm and natural, way to heavy so I went back and cut away the warm and natural where it was not sewn down. I did not do it the traditional style with the back sewn with the top but did a sew and flip type back and tied with pearl cotton in between the bibs. If I can get my son to down load the pictures I just took I will post them. If this doesn't make sense and you have questions please feel free to pm me and I will be happy to answer them. I am not always good at explaining in writing.

Here is the picture of the bib quilt I just finished this week. It is huge 9' X 6'.
I hit send too quickly and did not get a chance to finish my memo. The other quilt is the memory quilt made for the same person from the same child's clothes. It is the same size as the bib quilt 9'X6'. It took almost a year to complete them, they were originally suppose to be one quilt, one the top and one the back like I did mine but when I was finished it was way too heavy so she is getting two quilts.
I love the quilts. I think I like the outfits better than the bibs though. Is she hanging these or using these?
What a clever idea. You are so smart. Love them.
She wants to use them to wrap up in with her little girl & for her to be able to use when she has her cousins over. She is also planning way ahead so she will have them a keepsake when her daughter goes to collage. She is only six now.

How Cute Nice work
That is so cute. I haven't seen anything like that.
I just saw your quilts...I like it...did you take the snaps off the bibs or strings or just left them on?
Love them both ...so did you applique the bibs to the top? someone wants me to make the bib one for this christmas...better get started.
then was it actually quilted or tied to finish it? |
I removed the snaps from the back of the bib very carefully so I would not cut into the front, some of them were velcro and I did the same thing. I machine appliqued the bibs to the top using a decorative stitch and tried to stay close to the edge, sometimes the edging was too thick so I used it as a guide. The bibs were the easiest to do and a lot of fun. I did find that you need to go very slow if doing a decorative stitch .
Thank you for looking and commenting on them, both were a lot of fun and I am finally giving them to the receipieant tonight. |
What a great idea. I never thought about that. I have a great nephew coming in July and I think I will get my Niece to save me some of his clothes after he outgrows them and baby blanket and bibs and etc. What a great way to go down memory lane later.

That is such a wonderful keepsake for a child. Love it. Can't wait to try and make one.

Cool idea. I have some in my kitchen drawers that the babies have outgrown. Might have to try it.
