This week I am presenting a Half Square Triangle Quilt block Another Boston Block Quilt Block and a Combo 4 Patch/Hst quilt block.

I call the 4 patch blocks Combination Blocks because they are combined - 4 patch squares or 4 patch triangles. Here we are using the 4 patch squares this week.

You can find the directions for making the "Blocks" here:

Boston Blocks - http://www.bitsnpiecesworkshop.com/p...stonBlocks.php
Half Square Triangle Blocks-http://www.bitsnpiecesworkshop.com/p...aresBlocks.php
Combo Blocks - http://www.bitsnpiecesworkshop.com/p...tionBlocks.php

For swatch sizes refer to this link:
http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-57276-1.htm

The method of figuring out what size you need for the Boston swatches will work for figuring the 4 patch also only you measure from the center to one edge instead of a corner.

Have fun everyone!! any questions just pm me or email at [email protected]

Rhonda I have a question and I hope maybe you can help me.
I am trying to make the blue extended star but I want my final block to be 12 1/2. What size templet do I need to make the HST's for this to work. Usually I can figure this out but for some reason I am having trouble.
Please help if you can.
Thank you,
Carrie

You need a 2 1/2" template for all the 6 by 6 grid quilt blocks. Have you requested my templates? I was thinking you had. I have most of the templates mailed out for people for this but I do have a few yet to send.

cjomomma 08-07-2010 10:30 AM

Thank you. Yes I got your templets the other day.

quilthappygail 08-07-2010 01:14 PM

Love these next blocks. Can't wait for the templates to arrive so I can get started. Thanks Rhonda

Thanks QHG I am sending the templates out as fast as I can! I got the 4 1/2" this morning that I am sending out for the 12 1/2" quilt blocks. That one will be the 30 degree mark for the larger size.

So I couldn't get the extended star right so I gave up and did the boston blocks with HST's. I could sit and do these all day.

cjomomma 08-08-2010 03:24 PM

Love your block!! I love yellow and black and I really love the butterflies!

What kind of problem are you having with the Extended Star. Can you post a pic?

cjomomma 08-08-2010 04:58 PM

I think I know what I did wrong. I'm gonna try it again tomorrow and then I will post. Thank you for the comment on my block. I love how those colors worked together.

I tend to work with country prints and it is good to see how other people choose fabric for the same blocks!

cjomomma 08-08-2010 06:44 PM

I figured out what was wrong. I wanting it to be a 12in block and I couldn't figure out what size templets to use, my brain was shutting down and I couldn't do the math. I am assuming that I need to use a 3 1/2in templet in order to get the 12in block. I don't know why that was so hard for me. If I am wrong please tell me.

That's right! You did get one when I sent the templates right?

Sorry about that. I had answered a lady on another thread who was looking for paper piecing help. I must have not cleared the link before posting here.

Here is the right link

http://www.quiltingboard.com/virtual...jsp?vsnum=1017

You can also go to the bottom of this page and find Virtual in the links. Click on it and you will go to that section. Then just find the section you want to see and click on it and you will go to the Sampler section.
