Ceanna: Thanks for the early post for Sept. 1 block...love the block. I especially like knowing the history of the blocks. Just read an article in one of the quilting magazines that kinda took the fun out of my quilting imagination. I've heard and read that quilts were so important during the days of slavery when the folks were trying to escape slavery and get to safety in Canada. There was an unground railroad for them with quilts hanging on the folks' clothes lines and barns with blocks such as arrows and zig zags to give the slaves messages regarding safe routes and safe houses, etc. The article indicates these stories are not true but kind of "after the fact" creations of someone's actlive imagination :D . Oh! well, I love this block and will get busy and make it in the next few days...right now I'm trying to finish a Teddy Bear quilt for a neice who is going to have a new little one soon. :D

I'm hoping it is easier than it looks. I really like it. I am also looking into being a card carrying Daughter of the Confederacy. Didn't know they had them.
