It feels like ages since I've been here. Since my last post several quilts ago, my husband had a couple of strokes. I've transitioned into full-time care-giver, with all the responsibilities of caring for him, our five cats, and our five-acre property. That has left little time for quilting. :-(

It became clear to me though, that I would probably lose my mind if all I did was housework, chores, and taking care of my husband of 40 years. I decided ...

I'm calling my latest quilt "Periwinkle Blue," named for a song by Doris Day and my favorite crayon color. It is finally done.

What a joy it has been to make this quilt.
It was the block-of-the-month project on Craftsy last year.

When it was completed, I had stacks of blocks that I wasn't really sure what to do with until I heard about Leah Day's free motion quilting ...
  3. Love this board

    by , 09-12-2012 at 09:23 AM
Though I haven't said so, it is high time I did. I love this board!

The posts are informative; the pictures inspiring; the links are must haves; and I visit here every single day. There aren't many things I do every day, but this is certainly one of them.

My quilting life is very full. Not only am I doing the calendar BOM and the Craftsy BOM, but I'm dabbling in other projects as well.

Last night I finished (well, almost) the hand-quilting on Old Yeller. ...

  4. Needle issue is solved

    by , 03-06-2012 at 06:56 AM
    • I'm happy again...

Yesterday I finally received my #10 John James needles. They were strong. I like them, although #10 did seem a little large. I may try #11 next time. Perhaps I will give Roxanne's a try.

The leather thimble was great, except it will be something I'll have to get used to since I quilt with my index finger. I can see where it would work better on the third finger. I did try that, with a finger cot on my index finger and a leather dot on my thumb--worked

  5. Oh boy, am I disappointed...

    by , 03-05-2012 at 10:56 AM
On the main board, I started a thread about needles and thimbles. I wanted to ask advice about what other quilters are using. I received a wonderful array of informative posts.

I had been having a problem with large eye needles. The consensus does not seem to favor them. So, in my quest to secure some good needles, I ordered some #10 Clover quilting needles. During my first endeavor, with three stitches on the needle, it broke in half. Fortunately I found the pointed end, removed the ...

  7. My yellow quilt

    by , 01-19-2012 at 07:29 AM
Since I have wanted to do a yellow quilt for some time, and I've wanted to teach myself to make stars, I jumped into this project with both feet. I designed a quilt with EQ5 and love how it turned out. This is the result. I know all this yellow isn't for everyone, but I can't wait. I'm going to call this quilt, "Sunshine on my shoulder."

  8. Learning lots

I've been learning so much from all the excellent quilters here at the Quilting Board that I just can't help but be inspired to try new things.

This weekend I pieced a table runner, something I decided I wanted in my kitchen. I downloaded a pattern from somewhere online, (sorry, I don't recall where.)

On Saturday I cut out the pieces, trying to match my green kitchen and dining room and mauve living room (it's open concept). Though the fabric ...

  9. BOM challenge

    by , 01-04-2012 at 01:25 PM
The block of the month project may not be a challenge for most here, but it certainly was for me.

I have never done paper piecing before! If learning from mistakes is the best way to learn, I should be able to teach a class by now.

I decided to do the block of the month. This was my first endeavor and I rather like how the block turned out. I will post a picture of it in the appropriate forum thread.

This is my most recent quilt. I love the traditional log cabin. Pink is my favorite color. Gracing my new quilt is Ryan, one of five cats. She loves quilts as much as I do.
