  2. Another pattern hunt

    by , 03-23-2013 at 04:42 PM
I'm looking for a pattern that will use nothing but madras plaids, probably in 6" squares. This will be a quilt for my 2 year old grandson and has been requested by my daughter. I really just need to know how much fabric to purchase of 4 - 5 different plaids. She will probably want a queen size quilt and I'm not experienced enough to wing it and just go buy fabric and start sewing. Anyone have any suggestions for me?

I really enjoyed making this quick trip. I saw it on quilt in a day show. I got all the measurements for this one. I have ordered the book, but does anyone know how wide to cuts your strips for a king size, or queen?
  4. National Quilting Day 2013

So, how did you spend National Quilting Day 2013? It typically falls on the middle Saturday in March. That was this past weekend. It was quilting, friendship, birthdays and St. Patrick's Day all wrapped up into two days.
I, for one, was lucky enough to have had my best friend over for a visit. We ran the roads, we ate, we laughed, we did show and tell and dodged snowflakes. Martha is such a cool pal. She's easy going with a wicked sense of humor and my little JRT LOVES her! Olive can't ...
  5. Wedding Frenzy!

My son,Blaze, and his fiance, Melissa (aka Jaunty Melissa) are getting married on April 20th! One of the hardest things about life after the flood is not having my son around. I miss his ridiculous sense of humor so much!

Last Sunday was the Bridal Shower. You know I love to have fun so I prepared a little joke gift. Since Melissa lost most of her quilting stuff in the flood, I made her a little pincushion. I enclosed a note saying that I hoped she would get back to sewing after the ...

Jelly Rolls - Sweet Strips of Happiness

I just returned from the NJ Quilt Festival in
Somerset, NJ. Jelly rolls were everywhere. Almost every vendor booth had some type of Jelly Rolls to sell, big rolls, little rolls, medium rolls. I think they have become almost as common as the fat quarters.

Do you use Jelly Rolls or Strip Sets in your quilt making? Do you enjoy piecing them together
and then cutting them apart and sewing them into block for finished

  7. Color Choices

    by , 03-22-2013 at 12:29 PM
Some one at my office this week told me that I should take up painting because I have such a great sense of color. I explained that I do my painting with fabric and threads. The person had a curious look on their face, then they raised their finger in the air and said, "Oh, now I get it!"
I have understood throughout my quilting career that many people struggle with figuring out the right colors to use in their art work. While I can't say that I have always made the perfect color ...
  8. The Giving Nature of Quilters

    by , 03-22-2013 at 12:26 PM
Yesterday morning as I was eating my breakfast I did my usual routine of checking both my Facebook and email accounts. I noticed I had alot more new emails than normal and some of them were marked "URGENT!!!". As it turns out, there was an urgent call to arms in my modern quilt guild for help to complete a special project with a fairly short deadline.
Now, I recently have found myself rather stagnant in the quilting department. Part of this is due to the fact that my ...

Appreciate all/any help.
