Need help on a scenery quilt

I am presently working on a scenery quilt of Lake Superior. I am finding that the edges of my trees, leaves, rocks etc are starting to fray. The stated I'm suppose to sew along the edges of each piece, which I am starting to do. This does not help the fraying. How do I stop this without using fray check? Has anyone else had this problem? The kit was bought through Nancy Notions and everything was included. I was really happy with the way it was coming out till the fraying started. Not I'm kind of bummed out. I stopped working on it for awhile to take a break. I'm hoping someone has a solution for me.*

Has anyone purchased the new Baby Lock stitch regulator? If so, how do you like it. I am looking to purchase one.
  2. New appliqué method?

They state now to stitch all around the edges of each piece before I start quilting. That is making some pieces fray more. Help! Does anyone know how to stop this? Or what I can do?
