I need help designing a twin size quilt for my 3 year old Grandson. The carpenters star piece is 38" x 38", he has an extra long twin bed. I have agonizing over this for 3 months, I don't know what to do. have 5 yards of the polka dot and 4 1/2 yards of the cars fabric. I feel the cars fabric is too busy to put on the star side of the quilt. I don't think another quilt design would work to go around the star. My original idea was to surround the star with the orange border, put alternating rows of the two fabrics, my son says that would be too busy. I know experts are looking at this, and I do need an expert opinion.

I think a wide row of pieced print with white chevron or zig zag on each end would extend the length and still look great. It could be the dotted or the cars fabric and the white would help it not look too busy.

My first thought was to do a chevron on the ends too. Good Luck
