Hello Everyone. I have been reading the blogs for months now, this is my first post. I am thinking of buying a Janome 1600P with a Grace Pinnacle 10' Frame. Does anyone have any experience with one. What should I be looking for, what should I stay away from. Is it better to buy from a dealer? The one I am thinking about is used and a private owner is selling it.

Hi quilting mary, Make sure you google customer comments about this machine. Because lately, I've been listening to a pod cast "Sew, Stitch, Create"....And she had a horrible experience with a Janome. I just can't remember which model it was. But, there were pages and pages of complaints about it. Her comment, was if it had been a car, it would have been recalled! She had it in the shop for a broken bobbin case, 8 times in one year. All the problems had to do with doing a straight stitch. The embroidery part, excellent, not problems. Just make sure you research the model.

    Hi Mary,
I have been sewing with Janome machines for the past 20 years. I have had 2 sergers, The first serger, after 18 years of use I burnt up the motor, it was a great machine. I have the 9000 embroidery and sewing machine that I use to take to retreats it is so quiet and has beautiful stitches. Had the 6500 quilting with the wider throat plate and currently use the Horizon. The 6500 is more industrial and was a little louder than I liked, so traded it in and have the Horizon, I have never been dissatified with any of the machines. Mine have required little maintenance other than yearly cleaning. I treasure and take good care of my machines. Sorry I am not familiar with the machine you are asking about.

I have a Janome 1600 and love it. But it is not on a frame, so can't address that part. The needles are different; make sure you have the correct size. If you want to try it (and find out the threading path), go to your nearest Janome dealer. They will likely have one set up in a cabinet. It makes a beautiful straight stitch.
