1. Uploaded Pix to My Albums

    by , 02-17-2012 at 05:03 AM
Let me just say that not knowing how to do something never stopped me.

I just uploaded a big old bunch of photos of my quilts -- if you can call them that! This was an act of bravery.

Beginning in 2006-2007 I started making religious themed quilts. Some were wall quilts. Some were lap quilts. They were so utterly wonky that I should have been embarrassed to show them to anyone. Especially the one I attempted with faux leather.

I guess people have different ...
  2. Radioactive Snow?

    by , 02-14-2012 at 06:53 AM
I subscribe to Dutchsinse on Youtube and have followed him for over a year and have to say that he gives really excellent reporting on earthquakes and wild weather predictions due to HAARP rings. He predicted the horror in Joplin, MO a couple of days before it happened. Over the last two days he has been measuring radioactive properties of the snow in St. Louis. The news is NOT good. Think about it. The earthquake at Fukushima happened just about a year ago and all the mess has been drifting our ...
  3. Happy Valentine's Day! Pondering Projects and Greeting New Members

    by , 02-14-2012 at 05:53 AM
Good morning. Hope you take the time to find some love around you today. Remember, the more you give, the more you get.

And in that vein, I just remembered that I've been remiss in welcoming new members to the board. I do recall that when I joined there were lovely people who took a moment to greet me so for Valentine's Day, I decided to visit the new members thread and spread the quilty love. No time to do them all, but I will try to do two or three each day. How about you?
  4. No Quilting Today - Mantilla Factory in Full Swing Today

    by , 02-10-2012 at 05:55 AM
As some of you may, or may not know, one of the primary ways I earn a living these days is by making mantillas. What's a mantilla? It's a veil. Nope, not a wedding veil. These are made for women who wear them to church on Sundays - usually those who attend the Latin Mass. Also, if you're going to the Vatican and are fortunate enough to have an audience with the Pope, you'll need one.

Anyway, with quilting and this and that intrusion into the regular pattern of my life, I am soooo behind ...
  5. Joann's Flyer - Crazy Bicycle Frame

    by , 02-09-2012 at 07:36 AM
Moedeenie (aka Maureen) pointed out the crocheted bicycle frame cover on the front of the latest Joann mailer. It is hilarious!

I told her that it reminded me of
the Purple People - Adam and Eve Purple - who used to run a famous community garden in NYC. They used to ride around on bicycles that looked like that except all purple with many decorations. Here's a link to a YouTube video if you're interested

We were kindred spirits, I guess. When ...
  6. Gulp!

    by , 02-09-2012 at 07:20 AM
What have I gotten myself into?

Chele, who runs the doll quilt swap announced that she is ready to "retire" as hostess. Since this is one swap that I really love, I didn't want to see it go.

    I volunteered.

Starting in March, I will be the new hostess.

  7. Done!

Here is the Bucket of Strips Quilt top. I was so excited that I couldn't even wait to iron it out. It looks soooo much more awesome in person. Many thanks to thepolyparrot for her design help. And for convincing me that I need EQ!

  8. CORRECTION and Progress

    by , 02-06-2012 at 05:37 AM
I mentioned that I found 55 GALLON tubs. NOT! They were 55 QUART tubs!

Last night while hubby was happily watching the Super Bowl (YAY Giants!) I got all the squares sewn into strips. This morning, although I have soooo much other work to do, I am sewing the strips together! We might just see a top by the end of the day!
  9. Where That Bucket of Strips Came From

    by , 02-05-2012 at 07:45 AM
I've gotten some inquires about where one can buy a bucket of strips. Here's the answer.

OK. Back from Mass and now armed with a cup of coffee!

About a year ago my husband and I saw an ad in the newspaper for an estate sale that had that magic word "fabric" in it. Usually we look at ads on Friday if we are planning to make the rounds so we get there early, but this time we didn't get there until early afternoon. I thought everything would be gone by then but was ...
  10. Thanks to ThePolyParrot

That darling, thepolyparrot (whose location is Mars!), gave me some terrific ideas - Here

I decided on the one in the third row center.

Progress report: two rows done. Looked at them and realized I have to rip apart the first one.

Lesson learned - now I know why quilters plan their quilts BEFORE they start to put them together.

    Another adventure.
