Non quilting, but this morning I was cleaning out the cubbie hole we store our food in. Or kitchen is very small and the cubbord we use to store food is tucked into the corner. So its a narrow opening but wide and deep so stuff gets lost...

So this moning while I was trying to organize it-again so I can SEE what I have. I got the idea to make a shelf but I'm trying to be furgal as well. So I started thinking....

Ended up at Home Depo and an encounter with helpful sales person I ended up with a .55 1X8 pine from a clearance bin. Well the hubby is still at work but I found the jig saw in the garage so I figured I give it a try. If I messed up I was only out .55 LOL. That worked so I found a hammer and some nails left over from fininshing the basement. AND......

Here it is my .55 shelf! and I DID IT MYSELF :D :D NO men required(sorry men)

LOL I was so proud of saving so much money and then doing it by myself. Such a little project but a lot of satisfaction.

Very good! Maybe you have room to do another and stack on top of the other! Or several :) great work :)

Oh a helpful hint with can goods is to write the date purchased on the cans and boxes and you will know what to use up first!

AWESOME!! I do this all the time as my DH is disabled. Unless I want to pay someone to do this stuff (NOT), I just figure out a way to do it myself.

what a coincidence. I just sat down to rest while I wait for the batteries to charge for my drill and saw. I'm repairing my kitchen cupboards right now too. We women can do anything we decide to.

That's a neat idea, I think I'll do that with some very, very deep storage areas in my kitchen. At my age it's no fun to crawl around under there, so think that I'll make something like this, wider and with sides and put rollers on the bottom, like a drawer. I can find rollers that have flat bottoms and can be attached with 4 screws. And when I yank them out of the bottom of the cupboards, they will fall 2 inches to the floor and bring all the stuff to the front so
    I can see it easier.

Thanks for the idea, I've just been griping about these far too long and not doing a darn thing about them. Plus, I still have a lot of my late DH's wood stored away, needs to be used.

Great work at a very low cost!

If you plan on putting heavy things on it. you might want to add a center support. I have a few bowing shelves...experience is a great teacher.
