On several occasions when attempting to access a site, a message will appear that in order to view site, you have to open Adobe Reader. Is it safe to do this? Thanks

I haven't had any trouble with Adobe Reader. I have used it for several years.

I update my adobe reader when ever it tells me to so far it has been safe.

Adobe Reader is a reliable product. I've used it for years with no problem. They even let us download it in work and our IT department is VERY fussy.

You are probably accessing sites with articles that have been written to pdf. format, which is a means by which they can not be altered by viewers keeping them true to the author's intent. There are many tutorials here on the board in pdf. format, too, and you can't access them without having Adobe Reader on your computer....at least the free addition. You need to use Adobe reader as that is the format used by the creator when making the article. Adobe makes Photoshop and other reliable programs that computer manufacturers install on their computers. They are a reliable company and give the customer frequent updates in order to keep the product running smoothly. I trust it and have many Adobe products on my computer.

yes, they are in that format and are just saying you must have that free program in order to view it.

Thanks to all of you who responded about the Adobe Reader and the explanation about what it actually is and why you have to use it to view certain things. I really appreciate it and now feel comfortable using it.
