My son had his Eagle Scout Court of Honor today...after 12 years in scouting. Although I've been to others' ceremonies, it is very touching when your own child achieves this level. I hadn't really felt so emotional about it before, but I guess part of it comes with graduation from High School & heading off to college. I know many of you have been there before me. My congrats go out to each you who have had sons go through it; as there is a lot of commitment in the later years for community service & projects.

I can say that my once painfully shy son, can speak confidently in public & has become a leader as a result of the scouting experience. His first aide training has already come into good use when last year, as a camp counselor, a young boy had a large tree branch fall on his head. It was a fluke incident, but required my son to carry this 8 year old back the 2.5 miles to the main camp, stopping at a remote cabin on the way to administer temporary first aide for bleeding to his head. After stitches the boy was able to return the following week. It was a good lesson for them all; and thankfully had a happy ending. My son's years of cross-country running gave him the stamina to run that far, without losing precious time. He never saw this capability in himself before that day, but I am confident if he sees someone in distress he will not hesitate to take action now.
I know the dear people I have met on this board will not take this as a bragging moment, it is not intended as such. I am just feeling very touched by seeing the change in my little wall-flower.
Sincerely, Cathy T.

Scouting isn't just for the Scout. I know the hours and hours that parents are also involved with in the program.
Hats off to you and your family for having a son become an Eagle Scout. It is indeed a great honor and quite an accomplishment.

Congratulations! I am a strong supporter of the boy scouts. The board of reviews, merit badges, leadership in their patrols all help turn out some very fine men.

Congratulations from the mom of an Eagle Scout. You are to be commended for all your work, and he for all his work.

Congrats--my son also just made Eagle. It's a great feeling to know how far they have come and what he has accomplished.

Thanks for being supporters of the Boy Scouts. Every year we have been part of the support for the 48-hour "Relay for Life" in our town. This has been a grounding experience for all the boys, & also very personal as my husband & I both lost our fathers to cancer in the last 5 years. It's been very rewarding work.
I am involved in Girl Scouts as well, but so far they don't do nearly the challenging things that are asked of the boys. If I were younger & stronger I would offer to do more of the outdoor experiences with them.

Congratulations!!! I am the mom of 2 Eagle scouts. Scouting is a wonderful organization for boys to be involved with. The Eagle scout award opens doors for the boys in everything from college to jobs and the military. You must be proud of your sons, just as I am proud of both of mine and the young men they have become. (My second son has recieved the rank of Eagle just 4 days ago and we have not had the official ceremony yet but we are making plans for it.)
