Not sure I have the spelling correct. I want to sew and or quilt a cumberbun for women. I think of this as a belt that you tye around your waist in a bow. Women used them in the 60's.Information appreciated.

Never made one, but here's a link after doing a quick search on how to sew a cumberbund.

Isn't this what men wear on formal wedding clothes? I remember going to a formal wedding and some of the men were eager to remove what they called the "Belly Bands".

I think that they were made from a long rectangle, sewed to long skinny triangles that are much smaller so the fronts are pleated, or in the case of women, can be wrapped around you and tied either in back or in front.

Clear as mud?

I remember dirndel skirts from the late 60's...it was a stiffened fabric...so whatever fabric with heavyweight interfacing ironed on....front to back pinned, insert long sashes, stitch, turn and iron again. When you put it on, you will wrap the sashes around the waist and tie in front.

I made them out of wool plaid for my cousins wedding. I used a pattern I found in simplicity or McCalls, they turned out great but I'd advise making the buckle part longer, mine barely went around some of the guys!

it with just tyes. No buckle. Also plan to use it
quilted with colors to complement denim.Use the
what I believe is called a picket fence design. Strips
that are sewen together of various colors.Mabe 14 inches
long, a stiffiner added then fold and gather to form
pleate. Again thanks. I am off to try this project, When
I get it down I want to do a trim for a shirt to match.
