Thank you for this wonderful post! One day my Mom and I scrounged all over looking for her old aprons and didn't find any :( I was so sad!! She was puzzled lol
She used to wear them all the time until I went to college. Then my sister talked her into wearing pants, which she never did the whole time I was growing up. She sure looked more feminine that I did when my kids were growing up!!
I have one of my aunt's aprons and I treasure it :D

I remember my great aunt always having her apron on.It was a bib apron and she had a special one for Sunday after church. She and my grandma were from a big (13 kids) farm family in Fredricksburg , Tx. They raised all their own food and going into town on Sat. was a real treat. Tante Meta never married but loved kids to death. She made quilts to die for and everything else they needed . She was the greatest cook and before she died she gave me all her little recipes written on everything you can imagine. Some have been refolded so many times that they are torn on the folds. DD is an archivist and is working to preserve them for the family.

I love full aprons that cover the body. I always wear one when cooking AND eating. It serves as a bib too. I made 18 aprons for Christmas presents this year for all the grandchildren, boys and girls as well as the fathers (sons and sons-in-law). The daughters and daughter-in-law got bow tuck purses as I know they each have aprons already. I think I will include the apron saying you posted. Thanks.

Aprons do seem to be making a comeback! My granddaughter has requested one and she's only 13.

while i was hunting my serger instruction book last night i found the pattern i used to make an apron while i was in 8th grade home ec!!! i've been out of high school for 56 years!!! plus - i still have that apron. i also have a sack full of my aunt's aprons. some of them are handing in my sewing room. i love em. i've been thinking of making a quilt out of them.

Thanks for sharing this, I remember making aprons and I also remember g-ma and mom having everyday aprons and one "good" apron for company or holidays.
I used to work in a nursing home and remember all the ladies still that were not "dressed" till they put on their apron, didn't matter if they wouldn't be doing any thing it was just part of their outfit.

Awwwwwwww, that is so precious and brings back wonderful memories. I love your introduction. The kids today will never know what they missed with Mom's and Gramma's in aprons, greeting us after we WALKED home from school with hot goodies and milk. Ahhhhhhhh, the good old days, when we were pretty oblivious to everything going on in the world and weren't kept awake nights worrying!! :lol: :lol: :thumbup:
