My DH, teenage DS and I have a movie night once a week. We finally cancelled our Netflix mail because we couldn't come up with anything we wanted to see. We still get streaming and have begun using RedBox. Does anyone have any "you gotta see this movie" recommendations? We like all different types of movies, but I don't want to see movies like the wall street movie with DiCaprio, which has the dubious honor of holding the world's record for the number of times dropping the F Bomb. A few instances of it, which they feel compelled to put in, just makes me cringe, but I can try to ignore that. I also don't want to sit next to my son seeing nudity or sex (of course, he does make a joke out of it, covers his eyes and yells "My eyes!!!")

Movies that we have seen recently that we have enjoyed:
Escape plan - Stallone and Schwarzenegger. Prison movie, brutal (I shut my eyes), but it was actually a "thinking movie". Didn't LOVE it, but better than I expected.
Frozen - Loved, loved, loved!! The animation was so excellent there were places that it actually looked real.
About Time - Rachel McAdams (I think I'm the one person in the world that doesn't particularly care for her as an actress). Personally I think this is one of those hidden gems. I didn't hear much about it when it was out. I thought it was a wonderful movie. I recommended it to all my neighbors. They all said, "Oh, you mean the Time Traveler's Wife?" No, it's a completely different movie. I laughed, I cried, it made me think, it made me appreciate the little things.
The Book Thief - terrific movie. Don't see it if you aren't in the mood to cry.
Philomena - Judi Densch...nuff said.
Salmon Fishing in the Yemen - even though it's been around awhile, I keep it on my list. Just an absolutely lovely film.

Secondhand Lions it's a few years old but it's really good movie, perfectly family friendly.

At the theaters I want to see the new Captain America I hear it's really good. We really liked Monuments Men

Into the Wild___________ It's about a young man who leaves everything behind to go off into the wilds of Alaska.

The Help____________ Emma Stone plays a young writer in Mississippi, and writes a book with the help of several maids.

Anything based on the Tolkien books.....The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings etc.

The 1932 version of Scarface, it's a B/W film starring Paul Muni______I absolutely love this movie!

Things we Lost in the Fire___________ With Halley Berry and Benicio Del Toro (excellent movie) I give it 5 stars

Beastly__________About an egotistical young man who gets brought down a notch or two.

The Outsiders__________ Patrick Swayze movie set in the 1960's

Being Flynn_________Robert De Niro movie

Oh and a couple of classics one can't watch too many times........

and
Excalibur________ A movie set in King Arthur's realm

I agree about Secondhand Lions. I also like all the films in the Avengers franchise. Thanks for reminding me about Monuments Men, we want to see that. Liked The Help. I know I am in the extreme minority here, but I just didn't get the Lord of the Rings/Hobbit movies. Beautifully filmed, great cast, but I just didn't get the draw. I'm going to have to look into Things we Lost in the Fire - is it depressing?

Chasing Hawk

Sort of.......Kind of gritty. I like films like this, I am not the type who can sit and watch "chick flicks", potty humor movies i.e. Larry the cable guy movies, the Jacka** series.....etc, I can only watch a certain amount of Stallone and old Govonator himself.

Philomena & Frozen are on my list. Since the grocery store that was within walking distance closed along with the Red Box, have not located another. TOO EXPENSIVE on cable !!

Martin Chuzzlewit is a pre 20th century classic by Charles Dickens: we have ordered it 3x on Netflix because we enjoy it so much. We found it humorous and the acting is truly amazing. It is a five hour movie. It was nice watching it at home so we could take breaks and/or watch it the following day instead of just one lonnnnnng sitting!

God's Not Dead is a movie playing in several of our local theaters. We are probably going next week. Everyone is talking about it and everyone I know who has seen, loved it.

This is a recent movie, with Robert DeNiro, Morgan Freeman, and a couple other well known actors, that for the life of me, their names have escaped my memory right now, anyway, the movie is either Last Vegas or Los Vegas. I very rarely go to movies but a friend of mine invited me to see it, we never laughed so hard in our entire lives.
