We have two squirrel proof feeders. Never saw a chipmunk climb up the pole. The Chipmunks here gather seeds the birds drop or throw out.
We have to try to prevent raccoons from taking ours down. They are strong metal feeders but the raccoons can undo bungee cords used to keep them attached to the feeders and hangar attached to a 4x4".
I would get a heavy wire to attach it.
I guess they are hungry enough to try anything to get at the food.

Did you smear it with Vaseline? It'll keep the little boogers from trying to go up the post.

That looks very impressive, and I wish you luck!

We don't have chipmunks here (as Macra said, the closest we have is squirrels) but I found them immensely entertaining when I've seen them in the States.

There was a TV programme here, years ago, where they had a weekly segment showing their latest version of a 'squirrel assault course' testing the ingenuity of the squirrels, with food as the reward. Now that entertained both the squirrels *and* the humans. :-)

That would be my idea too. If they get super frustrated, do you think they would chew the wire? or go somewhere it's easier to rob from.
