Many years ago I was given a cardboard tub rimmed in metal that ice cream came in. I got the tub from an ice cream shoppe. I covered it in black fabric then glued on colorful old buttons and short pieces of a fabric measuring tape. I use it as a waste basket in my sewing room. It is still very durable but I have to reattach an occasional button that gets knocked off.
