My bread machine is braking. The piece that holds the kneading paddle is falling out the bottom. I can still use it but it has to be sitting in the machine so the piece is where it belongs. I have not bought a bread machine for many years. This one is from 1995 - I bought it second hand - I LOVE it. It makes a horizontal loaf and has dual kneading blades. That brand is West Bend. I'm looking at their new style but want to know what others think.
Does anyone have a newer model they like? I can not run to the local store as I'm living in Alaska in a village so I would have to order it online.

Karen, contact West Bend and see if you cant get a replacement for the pan. I, too, have been looking, and would like a horizontal, but my Panasonic is still working so I haven't justified the purchase. Good luck.

I don't own a West Bend machine and I find it very interesting that yours makes a horizontal loaf I wish I had one like this.
On mine, I have replaced the pan twice for the same reason you mention

I love my bread machine. I always use the dough setting which brings the dough through the first rising. Then, I take it out, put it in my regular loaf pan, let it rise a second time, then bake it. Works perfectly for me.

Personally, I have begun to not even shape my dough before setting it in the loaf pan. I just make sure it is evenly spread out in the pan. It smooths out as it rises. This doesn't take longer than if I had let the machine do the baking and I get a regular shaped loaf of bread.

Funeral today for a man age 101. He baked bread every day and gave it away. Wore out 15 bread machines.

This is the one I have. Paid $360.00 for it. The bread is either under-baked or over baked. I'm now using it for dough & baking it myself. I'm now buying a more expensive flour, seems you can't use reg. flour. Of course I read the reviews after I bought, most are negative. Loved my thrift store Black & Decker. It lasted 2 years.
