I am looking for something that is relatively inexpensive and that does not contain fragrance. I've tried expensive creams and they are nice, but I'm not convinced they will do anything for my 70yo skin that an inexpensive cream can do.

Currently I am using a lotion because I like not having to open a jar every time I need to apply some. But the lotions don't seem to do enough for my skin in winter (I am in Wisconsin).

The last relatively inexpensive jar of cream I used was Cera Ve. It's okay, but a little thick and I do not care for the new jar dispenser they have; works fine until you get close to the end, then you have to unscrew the jar to get it out. I do like that it is fragrance-free.

The last relatively expensive jar of cream I used came from some Eastern European country (via a spa). I really like it because it soaks into my skin quickly and does do the job, but it costs a lot and I am tired of unscrewing that lid every time I want to apply a little.

Am I asking for too much???

I found that coconut oil worked the best for me. My wrinkles don't feel as deep as they did before I started using it. Unfortunately, I don't use it everyday (I forget, get busy, etc.) Seems like when I use lotions, my face and hands are dry again a couple hours later. Got mine at Costco in the baking section. It does smell like coconut for a little while.

No you aren't asking to much I have problems with smells so I have to have been making my own lotions/creams for many years. The easiest thing to do is head for the grocery store that has the lowest prices. In the cooking oil section pick the smallest container. Olive oil is you base. Hopefully they will also have coconut oil which is another part of the base. l also buy a couple of specialty oils (I use Walnut, Almond, Apricot and Macademia which are all good for mature skin. Use 2 TB of olive oil and 1 TB of each specialty oil. Add just a teaspoon of coconut oil. Coconut oil is good but can be drying if too much is used. Castor oil is also great as it makes the face soft. Gently heat all your oils together and pour into a sterilized container. I slather this on my face and feet when I am getting ready to slide under the sheets. Please remember if you get up during the night you will want to have on slippers or socks!!!!!

Although it does Not meet your requirements (it is expensive and in a jar!) i can't live without my Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base cream. It makes my super dry skin feel great, non greasy and soaks in fast and has a really nice mild scent. If you can't find anything else, go get a sample and give it a try.

I have just tried Gold Bond Diabetic lotion - It is in a pump container, no fragrance, and about $10 for a large bottle. They have it for non-diabetics also. Very good for a Minnesota winter.

Most creams are in a jar, as they are too thick to pump. Do you find it difficult to remove the lids or are you like me and it is hard to put them back on when hands are slippery with cream?

You say the lotions are not enough for the dry winter air. Where I live we are damp all winter, so I will not be much help. But have you looked for a lotion in a tube that contains lanolin? I find that products with lanolin work best for my feet, which get dry and cracked.

Do you put on a heavy coat of moisturizer at night? I find that a heavy application at night helps throughout the day.

My mum has used Avon Rich Moisture, which does have a light scent, for 70 years.

I had a friend years ago who had severe dry skin and used Vaseline all over after every bath and shower. It absorbed right in.

I like Olay and Lancôme products. I was surprised to learn that they are the same company, which may be why both work so well for me.

I have very dry sensitive skin and exema, so finding a good cream has been a lifelong hunt. I recently have discovered the best cream for moisture and healing in Baby cream in a tube. It comes in regular baby scent, lavender, and cocoa butter. I have floral allergies, but the baby scent is no problem. Makes my old skin feel like a baby's. Cheap and comes in a stand up tube so easy to use, and use up.

I've had good success with Aloe Vera Face Cream from The Body Shop. Also their Aloe gentle face cleanser.
I use coconut oil when I need deep moisturizing, or overnight.

I'm a Ponds girl! Dove soap and Ponds Cold Cream, I've been using it for years. My mom used it and now my daughter does. It moisturizes, doesn't feel heavy and really works. I'm 64 and my doctor keeps asking me when I'm going to get wrinkles--I keep telling him when I get old! It's not an expensive cream, but I am pleased with that combination.

I also have issues with extremely dry skin and I tend to also have hives, the dr told me if you can tolerate Vaseline use that and I tried it and it has really helped with a lot of my bad spots, only use a tiny bit and runs in well. So far so good.
