I have so many!

But I remember my Great Grandmother rocking me in her rocking chair when I was 3 or 4.

I STILL HAVE HER ROCKING CHAIR!!!
And I've Never seen another one like it!

I remember my grandpa coming back from work (he delivered mail in our hometown in Germany) and sometimes he hadn't finished his sandwich. It was called the "bunny bread" and for the life of me I have no idea why. All I know is that sandwich tasted so good. A special treat from my grandpa.

It is good to read these. I have no good memories from my childhood. I hope I changed all of that for my daughter. I hope she can write a book.

The other day I was thinking about the old Burma Shave roadside advertisements. I remember going down the road, my sister and me in the back seat. Dad was driving and Mom was reading the signs.

So sad, kwhite. Not even one? If not a good memory of a time with your family, how about a good memory of a childhood friend, or a time at school, or during the freedom of summer vacation? Something you discovered, or the very first time you tasted something or tried something? Learning to sew?

My childhood was mixed, lots of good memories and some very hateful ones. Hard to pick just one to share.

For some reason, what's coming to mind is going with one of my uncles to get bagels for the family Sunday brunch. My mother, her sisters and their families, some of their cousins' families and some of the in-laws would get together almost every Sunday morning for bagels, lox, and whatever else to build a feast. One of my uncles would take me with him to get bagels from the bagel factory or a Jewish bakery. I haven't thought of that in a long time, but those were special times. I miss you, Uncle Max.

I was a child of the 50's also. When it snowed, my dad would pull out the Cub Farmall Tractor and would wrap an old army blanket around the drawbar. My brother and I would kneel down on the blanket and hold on to the drawbar and Dad would pull us around and down the yard to make a sleighing path. My brother and I would then walk that path and tamp it down smooth and then we would get out our Flexible Flyer sleighs and have sleigh races......wheeeeeeeee was that fun!

My Mother's family and ours would go to Minoqua Wisconsin for a few weeks every summer. We all stayed in cabins and all my cousins would be there. We always had such fun. As I got older we all started to go to Elly Mn. I have one cousin who a few years ago moved there. I guess we all loved those times.

My very first Christmas present was at 5 yrs old....blue button up sweater, and a bag of M&M candies. Life was good. LOL....But the one thing was when I would watch grandma Oliver make quilts. I miss her so much. If I had been smart I would have stayed a summer with her and had her teach me better ways of hand quilting....She gave me a white with red polka dots quilt, I no longer have it, X ruined it and thru it a way. SO I have found the material and I am going to make one over again....may not be the same, but when I look at it, I will remember her.
