A freind of mine is hosting a Hat/Scarf party for her Mom who has lost all of hair because of chemo. The idea is for everyone to bring a hat or scarf. That being said, she has asked me to help with a game or two. Anyone have any 'head game' ideas? I sure can use some help. I have no ideas at this point.
Thanks ya'll!

No game suggestions ... just wanted to ask if you saw the thread this past week with the cute chemo cap pattern?

I just played this game this past week. Take a plastic water bottle, regular size. Make sure its clean and dry. Now fill with wild bird seed (can use maybe rice or dry sand). Now drop things in that will fit thru the top, keeping a list as you do. Nickel, dime, penny, paper clip, pop top on soda can. Now being that is a chemo type situation guess you could try lets see perhaps hair roller, hair clip, go into dollar store and get ideas. When you have about a doz items in there. Glue cap on so no one goes in there and pours it out or such. Give each person one of these and tell them they have about 15 minutes to write down as many things as they can find in there.
You keep master list. Everyone will be shaking bottle, rolling it back and forth and having a good time. You can make these such as baby shower and use little baby items from Michaels store, even children's party and use items to match that theme. Your mind will go wild, young and old love this game trying to find items.

Tye a pre-cut piece ribbon around your head with blindfold on... except have to use "kitchen/rubber" gloves to do it with. Nurses would have an advantage though, lol.

Get caps from the dollar tree for $1 each...decorate them for the ladies as a remembrance of the party or have the goodies there to decorate them with...fabric paints, ribbons, buttons, foam cutouts, feathers etc. Ask them to wear them out sometime so others will look at them strangely and it can bring a smile to them to know why they have them on.

Use the "google" translator to find spellings for cancer/caps/hats/scarf in different languages. Make a word search using these words (free programs available to do it)

Make a bingo game *free programs also) using cancer words to make it fun.... cancer, chemo, hair loss, boobies, doctors, etc.

Answers

“Keep it under your hat”
Passing the hat around – collecting money for someone for charity or at a performance
Take one’s hat off to someone – for an accomplishment – “Hats off to Larry” Del Shannon for example.
“Talking through your hat”
Doing it at “the drop of a (your) hat”
Going to someone “hat in hand”
A “tile” is a gentleman’s Hat – from the late 19th century early 20th century- thought to be a Top Hat from the song “Where did you get that hat, where did you get that Tile?”
To “Throw your hat into the ring”
To tip or briefly remove your hat as a gesture of respect
“Titfer” is slang for hat – tit for tat
“Knock into a cocked hat” – well a bit lost in translation!
Wooly hat and scarf is “laugh”
When I get on “My High Hat”I am being snobbish presumably referring to high class top hats in the 19th century.
To “wear many hats”.
If you say that you will “Eat your hat” if something does or does not happen you are sure since it would not be too appetizing.
“Old Hat”
“Hang or hold on to your hat if you are in for a big surprise”. This could refer to an Edwardian Lady who chose to wear her hat at a fun fair!
“All hat and no cattle” – do you know a Texan who is like that?
A “cocked hat”is a very untrustworthy person – an informer, a rat or a “grasser”
Three goals is a “hat trick” – it has been used in other arenas
Please Share and Enjoy:

Some great ideas!!

A word of caution re the ones directly connected to Cancer. I'd think long and hard before bringing them into the "games". This is NOT a game to the person who has to deal with it and I know I were in the position, I would NOT be amused in the least if that was the fun of the afternoon.

The party you are planning is a great and fun idea for all to help your friend during a difficult time. I know the intent is good, and I just don't want to see the kindness and warmth of your idea spoiled. It could happen so easily and yet, you can have a great time with all, with wonderful memories created, that will help your friend during the most difficult of times.

As another thought ... how about blocks for a signature quilt being there for everyone to sign? And then make it up for a gift for your friend after. Or perhaps do them on the "sly" and keep it for a surprise for her later.

Not meaning to offend any one with the "fun" ideas of the games. I have had 2 family members that had an "upbeat" attitude and wanted to have a fun time "beating cancer"...that was were I was coming from.

This of course would depend on the nature of the person giving the party and the person the party is for. You could do the same type games using different topics/words.

I'm sorry if this was potentially offensive to some -- each person handles their crisis with different out looks. To me a "game" is fun and lighthearted trying to bring the best to a bad situation.

No offense intended

Everyone gets a clothesline pin clipped to their shirt. If another person "catches" them crossing their legs, the catcher steals the clothespin of the leg crosser. The winner is the person with the most clothespins.

Also, if you did a quilt, each guest could add an inspirational quotation and sign.
