Staying indoors so much because of the extreme heat also makes me feel claustrophobic and antsy. Sometimes I wish I could stay home and catch up with all my chores and sewing but this heat wave has sapped my energy and I'm doing hardly anything. Been limiting errands and food shopping and going early in morning so I get back home before it heats up too much, absolutely no gardening, lawn waterning or BBQing. Thank God we have had power and been able to run AC, a few times it has cooled off enough at night to open windows and have fans bringing in some moister air. Dried out my sinus during trip to Las Vegas beginning of June and came home to the heaviest allergy season that has kept me feeling awful for over a month. Yesterday DH and I spend most today in a hospital as our DIL had surgery, she did fine and we enjoyed a long day in the coolest moistest AC air. I really don't feel like eating much but have been drinking lots of home brewed ice tea with ice and lots of lemon as it's the best refreshment I know of.

Pray the weather cools down and brings all of us some relief.

If you just have to sit (or stand) for a while it really really works!!
Back before we had central AC I bought a little baby pool and put it on our back deck. When I came home from work I'd put on my bathing suit and sit in the pool until my body was cooled from the inside out. We have one of those little pools right now and I'd fill it up and cool off in it if I could but we're using it to catch a leak in our garage right now.

one fat quarter
one large ziplock bag
put a few inches of ice in the bag
wrap the fat quarter around the bag
wrap that around your neck
pin or clip to keep it closed

works like a charm.
when the ice melts, dump the water and start over.

Having lived in Texas most of my life I'm no stranger to hot weather, however, the older I get the less I like it. I tend to hibernate and only go out when absolutely necessary. Did find that local library has great air conditioning and I love to read. Use fans a lot and minimal cooking.

We have AC in the house, with this being the warmest year since 1956, we are using it all the time. Last night it was 87 at 9 .P.M. so hubby and I took the horses out of the barn (we put them in at 2 P.M. because it was 100% here to day) a record. Then the mule wanted out and finally I put my goat out. To day we will reverse the process. The Rabbits each get a frozen bottle of water to keep their pens cool, when ever needed. All 6 of our baby barn swallows left the nest because it was hot and crowded. But then we think about the blizzards of winter and are greatful for our 4 seasons.

Last night at 10pm it was still 87 degrees out and heat index of 103...I don't do well in heat and am quite tired of this heat wave...we usually only have a few days a summer that airconditioning is needed. I only have a window airconditioner....in my living room....which is better than no airconditioner. But, after working all day, coming home in the heat, I really don't accomplish much. Any room besides living room is too warm (kitchen, sewing room, etc)...I keep fans going in those rooms to "help" when I am in them....which usually isn't for too long.

I have been doing watering early in am as it has been too hot in evenings to do it. I also use "neck coolers" to help stay cool. Here is a link to a site with how to make them: http://www.p2designs.com/shipcooler.htm

This weekend is looking cooler...at least for a few days before it is back in the 90's. I plan on taking advantage of that by doing some sewing and some yardwork.

All I can say is that I'm sooooo grateful for airconditioning...
DDIL is due to give birth at any time...so she is extra hot...
It is really hot here...was 104 yesterday...and then we had a storm. Lowered the temp a bit, but higher humidity...but, one of the kids' power went out. So they are suffering without even fans, because of one of their dogs. Noone wants the one dog at their house. He and the dogs will be here momentarily, but confined to the basement. The dog in question is part pit bull. She is wonderful with people, but very aggressive to other dogs. I can't make him sit in the heat...but....it is a finished basement and it has air and tv.

For many years I lived out in the western Colorado desert. Triple digit temps was the norm. So no air conditioning and lived in a trailer. Here is a simple way to cope with the heat. Take two or three ice cubes and roll them up in a wash cloth. Lay the rolled up wash cloth along the back of the neck letting the ends dangle down the front of your shoulders. You will be cool no matter what the temp. It works the same as the cool scarves, except that was before the crystals were available. It is cheap and easy and easy to replace when the ice cubes melt. I even used a cotton scarf with ice cubes to tie on my dog's neck, he was a malamute/timber wolf cross so you see he had lots of hair and did not like the heat at all. He did like the "cool scarf" I made him though.

Live in SE Texas where the temp right now is a cool 91 degrees. In a cold front right now (lol). Usual temp for this time of year is 103 to 106 degrees. I stay inside in the A/C until the sun goes down as much as I can.
